I keep mine as dither fish in my American Cichlid tank ... they're excellent. Some reviews have said that they wouldn't make good tank mates, but I've actually had no problems at all. I have them with a geophagus, a firemouth cichlid, and a rainbow cichlid ... all fish that love shrimp. So, it's a plus that Buenos Aires Tetras love shrimp as well.
Great spotlight. They remind me of my very first customer when I started working at an LFS decades ago. She came in with this pathetic bag of shredded little fancy guppies- someone at one of those Pet* franchise stores had sold her 2 BA Tetras for her little 10g guppy tank. She burst into tears when she handed the bag to me. I got her fixed up though. But a larger school of these in a good sized tank with other appropriate fish is a thing of beauty.
Buenos Aires are one of my favorite species, I have a school of ~25 in a 75 gallon among other fish. I always told people "they're on the aggressive end of Tetras, but at the end of the day they're still just Tetras". I keep them with assorted barbs (odessa, snake skin, and rosy) and they are fantastic.
On my way to the Petco to return a group of 8 I just bought. I have a lot of plants in my aquarium and not taking any chances with them😢 beautiful fishes😩
AndroctonusMan that’s probably the problem. These guys do better in groups of at least 6. You’ll get much better color and behavior with more of them in the tank.
@@PeeDeePalms The lack of color is more a symptom; the fish could be stressed so it's colors show up faded. Being stressed for long periods could shorten it's life, much like it would in a person.
I dont recommend pairing Buenos Aires tetra with dwarf gourami because they will always out number them and are a lot quicker than them. This would be fine if they didnt nip their fins so aggressively. Without proper cover I've seen them chase dwarf gourami across a 55 gallon tank
Can you PLEASE go more in depth with breeding, I have a pack of 4 in my tank and 1 albino corydoras but they wont naturally breed, not sure if it's because of gender( I cant tell them apart) or the surrounding or what.
I only ever bred mine “by accident”. Never really tried I just saw juveniles pop up one day. The females are usually longer and bigger-bodied than the males if that helps you identify. If I remember correctly they would spawn in the morning for me. It’s possible you are getting spawns and the Corydoras is eating the eggs.
Hi! I have 3 hyphessobrycon anisitsi albinos, with 11 puntius tetrazona, fastly i get information of sumatrano fish, but not the same with buenos aires fish. Thanks! Saludos desde León, Guanajuato. En México. :)
Good video

Oh no... poor guppies. I’d love a big school of these in a 125 one day.
@@AVPAquariums I can't wait to see it when you get one :)
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought some of these and your video was very helpful
This is only MY experience. These were little terrors in my tank. Had them with angels, danios, blue emperor. They were jerks. They had to go
Very pretty fish. Nice video too
Thank you!
Excellent spotlight Brother !👍😀
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback!

For sure. With their teeth and activity levels it’s like having miniature piranha.

It’s a hard decision to make when it comes to such a neat fish. Hope you find another you enjoy.
So I got one of these fish and he doesn't have a lot of color. Is this normal or is it bad for the fish?
Is he the only one of his kind in the tank? How new is it?
@@AVPAquariums I bought only one of them and he is all alone in one tank. I just got him yesterday. I am thinking of getting another one.

@@AVPAquariums Thank you very much for the help! Will the discoloration effect his heath or no?
