    I have 4 buenos aries in my planted 75g aquarium. They have been in there for years. I sometimes feed them duck weed. They don't bother the amazon sword, java fern, crypt wendtii or anubia barteri in the aquarium. This tank also has ludwigia repens in it and they don't bother it either. I guess I am lucky that they don't.

      Lucky all my Buenos Aires ate all my plants and it was a whole 29 Gallon filled with beautiful plants. Destroyed in less than a month

    I have 10 Buenos Aires tetras in a 29 gallon fully planted tank along with 5 Dalmatian Mollys, 2 Cory catfish and 2 Plecos. Not to mention the snails and cherry shrimp as well. All are thriving and I only feed them once a week. Anyone interested should look up the father fish method or Walsted tanks. My tank is a beautiful ecosystem that's low maintenance and I don't do water changes. I only top off the water that evaporates.

    I think 15 gallons are way to small for a 3 inch fish.

    Excellent summary. I have an existing setup with 6 BATs and added 6 Albino BATs and 3 Millinium Silver Dollars. The contrast with white (red eyes) and silver against a black substrate and background is cool considering these guys tend to be beasts in the tanks.

    I keep my Buenos Aires tetras in a planted aquarium and they have never ate a plant
    I also keep them with neon tetras and not one neon has died or been stressed I guess it depends on the tank

    • @AquariumFishKeepers
      @AquariumFishKeepers  2 года назад

      I totally agree it depends on the tank. We had to place some neons in a tank with Buenos Ares and it was ok. We did have one BA chasing the neons constantly. It was temporary housing.

    its annoying that every youtube video on BA Tetras mentions that they ARE NOT to be kept in planted tanks simply because they eat the plants... what's more important, the fish or the plants????
    Giving the fish what it wants is good aquarium hobbyist ethics...
    Stupid, average people got it all backwards as usual
    Very awesome fish to keep. They have a bit of everything as well as somewhat humble appearence (which grows on you) which makes them a very strong, well-rounded selection for a hobbyists.

      I agree. Mine do well in my tank with crypts, Java fern, Anubias and jungle Val.

      Mine do fine , eat some of the plants so I grow more and expect they will eat some. all good. They have not touched my larger plants sticking to the smaller ones.

    Can I keep mine in a 55 gallon with a turtle?

    • @lumintherainwing
      @lumintherainwing 8 месяцев назад

      Yes! I have a Yellow Belly Slider turtle who is 2 years old, and I've a few of these Tetra fish. It's been around 2 months for me since I've got them, and they're living in harmony! I will warn you, however, for the first 4 days, my turtle tried snapping at them and chased them around a little, but I tapped on the glass when she did that, and she doesn't do that anymore. Also, my Tetras also try to steal my turtle's food, and that's one of the reasons I'm trying to get my turtle more used to eating outside her tank. ALSO- this may differ with you, because you, indeed, have a bigger tank than mine, and your turtle's age may be different. I hope this helped, if you didn't already purchase the fish, since it has been a year since you asked this!

    June 2021, I bought 5 Buenos Aires Tetras, then in Nov 2021 another 3. I look in my 55G breeder tank today 1/11/2022 and there are 6 remaining. Two are missing with no remains. The larger BAT over eats and appear Beloted and has a white bulb extending at its anus. This eventually corrected itself and the anus is now flush to the body. However, its torso has dark colors at the belly. I've tried to isolate to avoid feeding this one by netting it during feeding however the fish is too fast!
    The 55G tank is mosty plastic plants. I have a hard time keeping Hornwort plants in the tank that seem to be eaten.
    The tank mates are: one adult Bosani Rainbow, 8 Black Skirt Tetra, 6 BAT, 2 Yoyo Loaches, and 1 Albino Brussel Pleco.

    Oh boy. I have 4 BA tetras in a planted tank with neons, danios, a couple glow tetras, ghost shrimp and a Bn pleco.. never seen them bother the plants nor the neons at all. However, one was a bit nasty when we first put them in. But he chased one of the other BA’s. Leaves the rest alone. After about 4 days he settled down, though and stopped chasing

    I never understood why people like Tetras, they just do that twitching movement, and mostly stationary. Probably the most boring swimmers IMO. Only Angel Fish and Discus are more boring to watch than Tetras.

    Update: I don't know what is happening to my newly bought neon tetras. Every morning it seems like 1 or 2 of them gets missing and no bodies are found. 😭
    My father bought 4 for me as a surprise. When I researched on the internet, it was said that they are fin eaters and plant destroyers. I thought of selling them but decided to observe them for a while. They never attacked my guppies and even my cherry shrimps. They just chased each other. Planning to buy neon tetras soon. If BATs get aggressive to them, I will sell them, but if they don't, I'll keep them.
