Have I made a big mistake?
In this video we take a trip to our local fish store (wet pets and friends, McMurray PA) and add the chosen Fish to our newly created 55 gallon South American nature style aquarium.
I decided to go with a somewhat risky fish for this aquarium. The Buenos Aires Tetra. These fish can sometimes nip on the fish of other fish and also nibble on aquarium plants so time will tell! I certainly hope these work out and picked out a school of 6 in order to disperse aggression and hopefully those "nippy" tendencies.
If you have any experience with Buenos Aires Tetra please let me know in the comments!

I've kept them with my Tapajos before without any issues. As you say Lewis they do get to a decent size for a Tetra and they are constantly on the move. Once they get settled in you'll find that they are very aggressive feeders, they are lightning fast. It's all looking good in the fish room, so envious. Look forward to the next one. Stay safe and take care mate.

Thanks for sharing your experience with them John. New video on Wednesday will be an update on them and this tank👍🏻 they sure are aggressive feeders!

I've had these tetras for years now. Currently they're in my 65 with a jack Dempsey, two acara and a Nicaraguan. They are super Hardy and will stay at the top of the tank. They can be a little nippy with one another but they can hold their own with the big boys. Awesome fish!

Thanks for the input I appreciate it! I hope these guys start to go higher in the tank. They are currently chilling at the bottom in the geo’s way😂

I got Diamond Tetras in my tank with a few Severums and a few Albino heckli and they are pretty hardy and have eventually began schooling together. I’ve heard the ones you got can get a lil on the bigger side and are quite nippy. Diamonds so far haven’t really been to nippy with either each other or the other fish. I got 10 👌🏼

Yeah we shall see man time will tell! Haha I’ve seen that they will destroy plants, won’t destroy plants if well fed, will nip on fins, won’t nip on fins😂 figured I’d test it out myself haha can always return them and go for something else if needs be you know👍🏻 definitely debating on putting some black neons with the big guys….wonder how that would pan out🤔

Also wondering about these tetras as the are suggested, due to their size, for cichlid tanks. Thanks

Yeah I’m interested to see how the turn out. Hoping they aren’t nippy when we’ll fed. Also hoping they move higher in the aquarium once they feel comfortable. Time will tell👍🏻 thanks for watching Sharon!

Thought I had you talked into Blue tetras. Still you made a fine choice. They'll work out great in your biotope! Honestly most fin nippers get a bad rap. I've only had problems with tiger barbs.

It was a close call Jeff! I may even do the blue tetra’s in this tank too at some point! They sure are awesome. & gotcha! Hoping these guys work out and start schooling higher in the tank!🤞🏻 appreciate you watching bud!

I have my eye on these. The local LFS has a tank full and they are only a couple of quid each. Genuinely hadn't seen these before but they look great.

@@andreashessler838 they are cool fish. Stayed tuned for our next video on them. I’ll talk about them a little more. What other fish do you have in the tank?

@@cichlidscape Sorry bud, I was referring to the blue tetras. I like the BATs but they are known to be very tough on plants. I tend to keep peaceful cichlids nowadays, rainbows, Thomasi, keyholes. Haven't got time for the bigger tanks with work and travel.
I do like the Colombia Tetras though. I think a load of them in a 40 gallon, heavily planted would work well? There is something piranha-like about them and their behavior, which I like.
I'm sure they would cope with my Midlands hard water.

    • @cichlidscape
      @cichlidscape  2 года назад +1

For sure man. Driftwood in the tank may lower the ph too which will only help them. Sounds like a good setup! What size tank?
