In early October of 2018, we took a trip to Portland, Oregon to visit some great knife manufacturer's facilities. Here's an insider's look at Benchmade.
The first benchmade I saw was in a surplus store it was the Emerson qcq with the titanium blade bought it on the spot and still have it twenty three years later.
I love my Bugout 535 and my Vector 495. Owning Benchmade is such a pride because its made here in the USA. There Quality and the Warranty are impecable.
I'm onto my second benchmade, the 391 socp, and super pleased with it, very well made. Give me 154 cm and I'm happy. My 391 is d2 and I have no complaints. Bring the 530 back.
6:14 I see on the shelves around the bottom middle there is a label that says "CPM M390." M390 is made by Bohler, not Crucible Particle Metallurgy, so I'm wondering what could be the reason for that label. Does it refer to something else?
Age 33. Hydro-electric powerplant and dam operator. I have carried one folding pocket knife since 2007: right-hand serrated griptilian. I do gentle stropping every few months, honing as needed, and have only re-profiled once in her lifetime. No offense to the rep in this video, but Benchmade makes such a great duty knife, I only need one.
Jump on their website and get the details It’s super easy Pro Tip; my brother and I wait until we 2 each dull, then I send all 4 in a “if it fits, it ships USPS box” to save on shipping Last round he got a new blade on one & new washer between blade & body on the other, I’m pretty sure one of mine was just cleaned and sharpened & the other was whole new 940 (what I got back looked new, unlike what I shipped)
@@alexhester1424 the police approached them to help cut up guns they had taken off people to be destroyed. And benchmade gladly offered to help. They were guns taken from criminals, but benchmade still could have said no.
Pretty much confirmed my fears that Benchmade is phasing out D2... Sad really, their D2 is so awesome compared to others. I just ordered a custom Crooked River in coated D2 because I figure by 2020 they will have gotten rid of this steel completely.
@@TheKoss11 Since leaving that comment I did get my Crooked River D2 and it legit got stolen by a co-worker who was fired! Ack.... Sure enough you cannot buy the Crooked River in D2 steel anymore, which is a a super shame. You can however still get the Griptilian and Mini Griptilian in D2 steel only through their customisation page. Since making my comment a year ago D2 has REALLY exploded online as like the perfect, "budget steel" (when I first got into knives it was considered high end, but things change) which I'm happy for, but again it really depends a lot on the maker of the steel. Benchmade and Jason Brous probably have the best D2 steels I've ever seen. The Benchmade Adamas is like the most TANK knife I have ever owned and I'm still in true awe of how good it is. I just hope D2 isn't pushed down to like the, "loser steel" territory and companies start shying away from it. People like to argue that it rusts easily and it can't take a super fine edge, both things that are completely false, and for the average person if you are using a knife outside of your job you probably are just opening boxes or cutting some things down. I'll never stop loving D2, but lately my like "go to steel" is S90V.
@@AdamasOldblade what I meant was... I have Spydercos, one a para3 and a pm2 Emerson. The s30v chipped on my pm2 Emerson. Had it fixed, but I also have a bugout that is s30v also and I use it the most and the steel looks and feels totally different. I wouldn’t be surprised if benchmade added processes to improve the steel. If they do this with S30V, they probably do it with D2. So I get what you mean.
I wish Benchmade would listen to customers. The infidel is the most iconic OTF of all time but it’s outdated. We would love one with a thicker blade, better steel and less wobble. It would sell out in a day. I have my infidel next to me as I’m writing this and there’s SO much potential.
I use to think they were overrated... started with the mini barage and now got the 943 on layaway... I have to say while I don't have 18... I prolly will lol
I have several Benchmades and i continue to search for other options just for variety… and theres plenty of great options. However… i always go back to Benchmade as it checks all the boxes for me. Politics is definitely not one of em. Can care less. USA made ✅ Lifetime Warranty ✅ Customization ✅ Life sharp program ✅ History and tradition ✅ Quality components ✅ Huge variety ✅ New runs and special editions ✅ Just overall IMO the complete package from top to bottom. Tje ordering process is easy, they’re attainable and even have some moderately priced variants for the person who doesn’t want to break the bank.
@@gmoney5947 Is that why Chris Olofson's customs are still selling for a thousand dollars a pop? If you can even find one? The real problem isn't popularity, the real problem is that a bunch of no nothing pussy politicians decided to make them illegal in a lot of places. Thankfully my state isn't that stupid.

Love Benchmade. Not sure exactly how many I own now but it’s well over 20.
At least 2 above average 😮
Love the Axis lock..just picked up a 940-1 and love it!! Up to 4 Benchmade knives now.
MegaYangman three in order griptilian, 940-1, and the anthem. Up, up, up....and I love it.
14 more until your average 😮

Love this place! Hans is the man and has some great knife ideas! They take great care of my collection!
Same here, I'm broke after Benchmade
i've got two mini barrages! so when I send one in to get sharpened and lubed I still have my backup
That is a smart way to be👍

940, black 51 butterfly, and the 490. I love my benchmades
Gotta love my 940-1 Osbourne

One of my favorite
I own 4 knives. A buck cabellas alaskan guide for hunting. Then a super freak, proper, and my favorite all time (had 2 in my life, first I lost.) 940.
I never bought a Bugout until I could get aftermarket scales.
Wow! 18! Not sure I can afford 18 Benchmade! Great info on the differences in steel.

Wow I own 2, A bugout & bailout but want to get a CLA next but it's not in the budget yet 😆
I think a Benchmade employee poll of what their favorite Benchmade knife (model number) is would be really cool and informative.
Been loven benchmade for a while 5 i bought ive given away to family and 8 i owen total 13 total i bought
Thanks for watching!
Wheres the factory with the workers working????
This isn’t a tour . Microtech shows the entire process, except the formula for heat treatment.
I love my 940.
Then you will really love the 940-1 when you buy it

To bad their 20CV doesn't out perform their S30V since it runs high 58 to low 59 HRC.
Bullshit
