    Awesome in-depth review....thanks for the hard work! Our injection molded sheaths are not as temperature sensitive (hot/cold) as kydex.

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  6 лет назад +11

      Thank you very much, that is what I thought and I hope I communicated that properly.

    • @peachfuds
      @peachfuds 4 года назад +1

      I prefer the injection molded sheath as I live in a hotter environment. Kydex tends to melt to guns/knives when heated up, and that is a problem. I'm happy with the decision to do injection mold sheaths.

    I was a volunteer on a search for a missing child last year and ended up trekking through a variety of challenging terrain, from rural neighborhoods to thick wooded areas. The two most useful tools I took were my ESEE 6 (TKC customized) and a Streamlight Pro Tac HL. I used my knife to cut my way through some seriously thorny vines, while my flashlight was invaluable when searching under crawl spaces and in dark sheds. Illumination is maybe even more important when camping, as there always seem to be tasks that require two hands and a headlamp, long after darkness has fallen. So, I would definitely pair up the ESEE 6 HM with a good quality flashlight or headlamp.

    This knife is very reminiscent of an 18th century Trade Knife. As far as aesthetics go, I think it looks better than the original esee 6.

  • @informedcitizen8687
    @informedcitizen8687 6 лет назад +3

    I think the Esse Junglas would make an excellent compliment to the 6HM. One to handle all the chopping and splitting and the other for finer cutting chores. Plus the look like a matching set.

  • @nova5067
    @nova5067 6 лет назад

    So I'm a SERE Specialist working at the Air Force Survival School at Fairchild AFB and I have been using the ESEE 6 for a while as my preferred knife. I would probably choose to pair a fixed blade saw like an ARS Pruning Saw with the 6 (or HM) just based on the function of what I do out there on a monthly basis in the forest.
    I love my 6 but I would definitely be interested in taking the HM for a spin to see if my fire craft improves at all. Thanks for the video!

    I would pair it with a fire kit, because my two favorite things to do on a camping trip are playing with knives and playing with fire (responsibly of course). I can usually find downed trees and branches where i camp, so the ESEE 6/6HM would be enough to help my prep my tinder and then my fire kit would get the campfire started.

    Looks like a fantastic knife. Great to see ESEE release an HM line 6. If I went on a camping trip, I would pair an ESEE 3 with the ESEE 6 HM. I would also bring a folder (probably my PM2 or Crooked River). I would probably also bring my Leatherman Sidekick, which happens to have a petty reliable saw on it for its size.

  • @seanadams2391

    Hey Aaron, for backpacking (assuming a firesteel is already present) I'd pair it with a Silky or Bahco folder since this particular Esee is not the best chopper. Super light weight option for bucking up those thicker 3"-4" branches for some light batoning.

    I would pair it with a fine red 🍷 wine. But with all seriousness after video review and knowing that camping is what it will be used for i have several observations. 1) it is big enough to chop but with more work than wanted,2) it's small enough for things like feather sticks or curling, food prep etc. 3) it's made of 1095 a good 55/57 hardness but 1095 will rust so bring wax. Hmm, I would have to say that since it'll handle most medium to small task I would want something that would be less exhausting for fire wood prep like a folding saw which fits nicely in a pack. Whatever is your favorite.
