- This song "Are You Ready For The Summer?" Featured over the end credits (and in a different form in another part) of the movie "Meatballs" starring Bill Murray. More recently it has appeared in pop culture reference form in the South Park Episode "Crippled Summer" and later in an episode of Family Guy.
Taught this song to my kids when I was a day camp counselor. They sang it each morning and every time we went on field trips. The louder they sang the more treats they got. They loved it!
That is going to be a lasting memory. Good job! 💪🏾

I have a digital download of several movies from this era and watch meatballs and caddyshack at least once week. I have to for my mental health. I used to actually dedicate at least one day every summer to watching them back to back to back all day while vegging on the couch drinking beer.

I think film biggest contribution to culture is A, this song, B, the ending sequence which is not just a cultural meme (counsellor on a bed in the middle of the lake) and most importantly, the movie that was clearly based off this, Wet Hot American Summer.
I recently found the flick for five bucks at wal mart and went down Nostalgia Lane. :) It holds up as a neat little film, and I was surprised at the lack of nudity, cause I was sure as a kid I remembered it lol. Given it's Summer Camp--think Friday the 13th--and Bill Murray--think Stripes--you just assume.
Remember when you were a kid, and you thought summer was the best part of the year? Then you became an adult, and you realized summer freaking sucks.

this is somewhat a common trait widespread mostly amongst z-gen kids. back in the day originality was not only appreciated, it was expected. it's the diametrical opposite now. you are only part of anything if you ctrl+c-ctrl+v the same 2-bit gag under any mediawork. their conversational and behavioral patterns align up so accurately that it's pretty hard to recognize these people as legitim individuals. they are literally copies of each other.

I remember when I was in kindergarten, and had to sing this for my graduation ceremony. Obviously, there were other kids, but I was dumb nervous. 😅 Still, those were much simpler times.

Being 9 yrs old when I saw this on TV in 1980 brought me here. Finally got to see the uncensored version on VHS in 1984. By then, I appreciated Wendy and the dirty jokes a whole lot more and found out later that one of the cute blondes was in porn flicks before or a little after this. Google Alice in Wonderland but not the Disney version.
