    1:34. Obi-Wan's disgust is amazing. He is realising that Qui-Gon was right. He wants to stand by Ahsoka because he believes her. He wants to stand by Anakin because he always has and will. Maybe he thought he could start to change the councils' thinking, but one person can only do so much.

      @@Theo-bb6pn I haven't read it, but, I know Qui-Gon was so rebellious because of Dooku. Would Qui-Gon have joined Dooku in AotC? Probably not, he would have seen Dooku going down the dark path, and would have stayed out of the Clone Wars.

      @@sergeyoneill1344 I don't think he would've stayed out of the clone wars, but I don't think he'd have allowed Anakin to be turned and would've pushed back against the council far more. The whole book centres around the differences between Obi Wan and Qui Gon, especially the first third - Obi Wan's critical difference, as you know, is that he was far more aligned with the council, and as a padawan he was arrogant and dogmatic.

    • @sergeyoneill1344

      @@Theo-bb6pn I see, yes, Obi-Wan is certainly more obedient of the council when he was younger. Though it is surprising, considering that it was Qui-Gon accepting Obi-Wan as an apprentice that allowed Obi-Wan to continue his training. Something that he was clearly aware of as it was only with his persistence at keeping Qui-Gon's word to train Anakin. Obi-Wan tells Yoda at the end of PM, that he will train Anakin regardless if the council supports him or not. So, Yoda, not wanting to loose two more jedi (and perhaps the prophesied chosen one) that he relents.

      Tasav Youre more right than you know..... One huge part of the reasons the jedi fell was thay they became too involved in politics. They became arrogant and righteous (with some exceptioms of course), and became far too clinical for an order than should be more mystical. midicholrians are a great example. The Jedi 9f that tike thought they culd quantify the force, thought they could make a strict system of training that worked for all, and forgot that the Force is far more. Yoda learned this by the time he got the Dagobah. In fact he realized in in the middle of hos fight with Sidious in the Senate hall. He realized the Jedi hadnt lost the day of Order 66, or the day of the rise of the Empire, but they had lost decades earlier, by losing themselves and what they were supposed to be.

    • @dbstewart86
      @dbstewart86 7 лет назад +325

      Ciaran McGuinness They really did make their bed and ended up lying in it. It's funny, because this is all cause for Anakin to hate the Jedi; Palpatine outwardly showed him kindness, compassion and that he cares, regardless of whether or not be actually did or just saw him as a tool to use. Meanwhile, a lot of the high ranking Jedi ignored, doubted, or ostracized him to a degree while dismissing his struggles from his childhood, and actually using him as a tool of war. It's easy to see how people in-universe can look at the Jedi and think they're evil; if you didn't know who was good/evil beforehand and just look at how they treated people you'd think it was the other way around.

    • @ciaranmcguinness8900
      @ciaranmcguinness8900 7 лет назад +124

      dbstewart86 Not to mention the Jedi had become complaceant and the used the Force for themselves to help the Republic, they were constantly contradicting themselves and they were corrupt and so overconfident that they couldnt see that Palpatine was a Sith Lord when he was standing right in front of them during meetings, they also didnt do anything to help matters when they made Anakin ,a clearly highly emotional and hormonal teenager at that time even Obi Wan could sense that, Padmes bodyguard almost ensuring that he would fall in love with her, They made some major mistakes during the Clone Wars, and while on that subject they themselves said "We are keepers of the Peace not soldiers" well they were all bloody Generals of Entire Starfleets, I know there was a war but they choose to use the Force to help the Republic, rather than let things play out as the Force willed it but their biggest mistake was constantly bellittling Anakin instead of nurturing his knowledge,skill and power and he was supposed to be the Chosen One yet they all (Except Obi Wan) treated him like shit

Thats...alot of circumstantial evidence stacked against her. Isn't there something about if you are innocent, why run? If she stayed and never left, all they have got is a holo recording of her strangling Letta and that is about it. Rest of it wouldn't have happened. • @masterexploder9668
      @masterexploder9668 4 года назад +17

      Also why Senate needed to expel Ahsoka in the first place? Jedi Order was always semi-autonomous (they could train and govern themselves how they liked) and they answered only to the Senate itself. So if Senate > Jedi, then expulsion wasn't needed, create a comission or take Ahsoka to the courts (which Palpatine already has under control as Windu states to Anakin shortly before his death). So any trial would be biased, but it wouldn't look like Jedi were throwing Ahsoka under bus to cover themselves, which obviously made very ugly impression on her and especially Anakin, a *huge* factor in his later turn.

However Jedi Order as organization was always answering to the Senate, so why it was necessary?

    • @cameronpugh3586
      @cameronpugh3586 4 года назад +8

      Master Exploder Ah I see...my guess would be that perhaps since Ahsoka’s military rank is a product of her status as a Jedi, she would have a Jedi trial by default (as Yoda suggests) rather than a military trial before the Senate. So I guess in order to try her NOT as a Jedi, she had to be expelled from the Order first.
      Like you say, the Order was always semi autonomous. They answered to the Senate to a degree, but they had a lot of independence and discretion. One of the products of the Clone Wars was that this discretion got gradually eroded as the Jedi became wrapped up in the war.
      It’s important to note that the council COULD have refused Tarkin’s request and chose not to because it would have been politically inconvenient. But it was certainly within their power. There’s another instance in the show, when Cad Bane steals the holocron, where Mace and Obi Wan resist a request by Palpatine to update him on their progress. They claim it’s an “internal Jedi affair.” Anakin makes the argument that because of the Jedi’s military involvement, they had a duty to report to the chancellor, even on internal affairs. This suggests that before the war, the Jedi enjoyed a pretty high degree of privilege and discretion to operate with or without the knowledge/approval of the overarching government. The war makes this politically messy, so they begin answering to the Senate more and more.
      It seems to me that they answered to the Senate not necessarily because they legally had to, but because it was politically the smartest thing to do at the time. So it seems likely that if this had taken place during peace time, no one would have challenged the Council’s authority to try one of its own.

They failed to properly console Anakin even though they were well aware of his struggle with the dark side, they consistently broke their own dogmatic doctrines by bending to the will of the Senate and became generals in a war they shouldn't have fought, and they were arrogant enough to become generals despite a majority of the Jedi within the order not being suited for military leadership as well as believe they could end the war before Palpatine enacted his plans. Obi-Wan's faith in the Order made him blind to any concerns Anakin and Ahsoka had about it, and that it was a symptom of something bigger. Yoda's trust in the force made him unable/unwilling to speak up against the direction the Order was heading under Windu's influence, even when Yoda himself had doubts.
    After a thousand years without the Sith, the Jedi Order had integrated itself so deeply in the Republic that they couldn't separate themselves even if they wanted to. Obi Wans story in CW always makes me kinda sad. Everyone always want him to do what they want, and he always tries to make them happy, yet they never see that, they just get pissed at him because he didn't do more, even if he didn't have more to give. no one ever thought of how he felt, the only one who somewhat understood was Satine, and he lost her in the most brutal way.

      The funny/sad thing is that Palpatine had nothing to do with this part.
      He even came to regret that this entire arc happened, because it made Anakin/Vader distance himself from Tarkin, since the latter nearly executed his Padawan. Palpatine wanted for his future best followers to get along.
      The Jedi were already blind and hypocritical long before Palpatine laid a foot on Coruscant.

    It kind of grind my gears how extremely gullible, foolish and cowardly the Jedi Council have become, especially Yoda in this Arc and if "The Lawless" wasn't enough to make me despise him, this Arc made me despise him even more because if Yoda didn't recall Anakin and Ahsoka back to the Temple from their mission to Cato Neimoidia, Ahsoka would not have been in this Large mess in the first place.
    Even it doesn't help that most of the council, including Yoda (with an exception of Plo and Obi-Wan) jump to conclusions that Ahsoka bombed the temple when obviously the bombing occurred when Anakin and Ahsoka were doing their Mission in Cato Neimoidia, it's just like they pretend that Ahsoka's mission didn't happen.
    This is how I envision how the Council was like when they were to expel Ahsoka:
    In favor of having Ahsoka Expelled: Mace Windu, Mundi, Saesee Tiin
    Not against, but were forced to expel her to avoid Scrutiny: Obi-Wan, Yoda, Plo Koon
    Not against Ahsoka: Kit Fisto
    No vote: Shaak Ti, Oppo Rancis
