Questa è la dimostrazione che Accardo non era solo tecnica , aveva anche un suono nei cantabili meraviglioso ed un fraseggio ineguagliabile, uno tra i più grandi nel mondo di tutti i tempi.

@@manfred4766 : My favorite performance of this piece is by Leonid Kogan (which you can view at ruclips.net/video/WamJfADBKQU/видео.html ). Unfortunately, Mr. Kogan's huge talent was undermined and overshadowed by the great and charismatic Heifetz. I had the distinct pleasure of playing with the Phoenix Symphony in 1966 when Mr. Kogan was invited to play the Brahms. And his Bach encore was absolutely mesmerizing. Regarding this Paganini piece, I'd find it quite interesting to hear how it would be performed by Tedi Papavrami, and also by Alexander Markov.

Honestly, I love Salvatore Accardo and his interpretations of many pieces, especially Paganini’s caprices. He has every hallmark of a fabulous violinist from a magnificent technique to that rich sound that separates those with merely fine technical skills (take note most of the young “celebrities” of today’s new crop of violinists) from the truly great musicians. However, this is far to fast. It feels rushed, like he’s nervously jumping from one section of the piece to the next to get through it as quickly as possible. It feels less like a performance and more like an exercise. For me, Leonid Kogan still takes the crown as one of the finest to attempt this piece!

He had Vuillaume make him special bows, from rolled metal that were longer than the "new" Tourte bow length. This was because Paganini held his bow up the stick, much further from the frog... like almost a 1/4 the way up. There's a reason, but I don't believe Paganini ever explained why he chose this grip, however he did remark on the rolled metal bows being his favorite to use.
