I was at this gig and it was the last time I saw Pat play live. Arigato.
This was great. Such a good lineup. Pat's powerful sense of swing and melodicism was one of the best in jazz guitar. He will be missed and not forgotten. RIP Pat
No greater honor on this earth than to play alongside Pat Martino.
What a great Performance!!! Great stuff to watch and Listen to.
I grew up in the same neighborhood as neighborhood as Pat Martino did Pappas from 16th and wolf hours from 19th and Snyder what an incredible incredible guitars one-of-a-kind if you ever seen Pat play live you won't believe it truly a Prodigy from day one can you imagine playing for a jazz band with the guys in their mid-50s when Pat was only 15 years old that is truly incredible rest in peace and God bless you Pat Martino Johnny falasca
This is going to be one of those videos I keep coming back to. The band totally kills it. Awesome personnel!

Pat is real thing 👍
Pat Martino’s “SYMMETRICAL PARENTAL FORMS”.
Pat was a genius who saw 2 chord types, the augmented triad and the diminished 7th chord, as being “symmetrical parental forms”. (Think equilateral triangle and perfect square.)
1) Play 554 on GBE which is a C+, or C augmented triad.
It is also an E+ and an Ab+ but in different inversions (Symmetrical!).
- If you LOWER any one of those notes, you will create a MAJOR TRIAD. You can form E/Ab/C , depending on which string’s note gets lowered.
- If you RAISE any one of the C+’s notes, you will form a MINOR TRIAD (and not just any minor triad but the RELATIVE MINOR’S TRIAD).
You will form C#min/Fmin/Amin depending on which string’s note gets raised.
2) Now play 4545 on DGBE, to form a Diminished 7th chord named for any one of those notes (F#, C, D#, A).
- If you LOWER any one of those notes, you will form a DOMINANT 7TH CHORD (F7, B7, D7, Ab7).
- If you RAISE any of the Diminished 7th chord’s notes, you will form a HALF-DIMINISHED 7TH chord (aka Minor 7b5).
Those 4 chords now formed are: Amin7b5, Ebmin7b5, Gbmin7b5, Cmin7b5.
- So the AUGMENTED TRIAD “parents” 8 other chords, 4 Major triads and 4 (relative) Minor triads.
- So the DIMINISHED 7TH chord “parents” 8 other chords, 4 Dominant 7ths and 4 Half-Diminished 7ths.
- Once you learn this, you can apply it in any key, any inversion, and anywhere on the neck.
It is worth learning how to do.
Pat Martino was a genius who had a unique understanding of the guitar fretboard. - RIP PAT!
Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
@@GordiansKnotHere I;ll take your word for it. I think he played from the heart without any technical restrictions. Just fuckin play man!
