In this Illustrator tutorial, we’ll create this text effect using the power of the blend features in Illustrator. We can create custom text using the Pen or Pencil tool in mere moments or, in the second half of this tutorial, we’ll take a typeface and split the letters apart and find the center of each letter and apply this 3D tube effect letter-by-letter. If you like type and you like Illustrator, you’ll love this tutorial!

*Make sure you turn off any outline effect you have before choosing blend, or else it will make the color look weird.*
I just ran into this problem and was confused, but it was easily fixed so I thought I'd share.
Great tutorial btw
Great point. Thanks for sharing! I'll pin this comment.
How to turn it off
@@osamarashid4911 make sure ur stroke is in the fore and click the slash
You have no idea how much of a lifesaver this tutorial was. Coming back to this after 3 years, and it's still so helpful. Thank you so much Nate!
What I like about your tutorials is YOU ARE ALSO ENJOYING. Every tutorial is clear and concise, but also fun and energetic. I guess it really matters when you love what you are doing.
My man just hooked up the gift of time. This affords me at least 20 extra hours on my logo project. Thank you!!!
Thanks, Nathaniel, learned a plethora of things. SInce you can't please all of the followers all of the time, here is my wrench toss. I like that this vid was long. I need the time to correlate the steps. We learn best with frequent repetition. You balanced between the fine line of tedious and the necessary process required to cement concepts. You may rarely go wrong if you aim for the masses of us who are not pros. Pros have other resources they can unearth, though I did appreciate the comments a few of them offered as clarification or FYI additions. This is exactly the effect I wanted to learn this week and I did not have to "pause" once! I will review it when I actually try it the first time. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Constance, USA. PS: Big thumbs up also for 9-year-old Dillion...bet he is way better than me (my kid was when she was 3 and is a whiz as an adult).
I have learnt alot from you, especially when it comes to this blend and 3D type thing. Thanks alot
Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Well explained and easy to follow. Thank you Nathaniel!
Great Video, Great Tutorial, Great Tutor.
I was able to give the line strokes of each letter a much curvier look using the smooth tool, i find it easier than going in to adjust the curves point by point using the direct selection tool
I'm a graphic designer for my high school and I'm in yr 9. This was amazing tutorial. Thanks so much 👍

RE: Dave: For Review and Pro Viewing: Consider a (synopsis) version that is an edit of the current lesson.Take each action and show it as a still with a *list of the steps used to achieve it (as if you are designing a script). For simplicity, this version might have an intro for the masses that shows an icon of the controls used (a map key). The narrative you give in the original identifies these as you use them (mostly), so there is no further need to show them in the actual "Review/ Synoptic) version.
From an old time educator, Constance.

Great tuts you make...just one question, once you've hit "Replace Spine" are you unable to adjust the stroke\thickness of your paths?

First, brought to you as always by me.
Always, always!
replace spine option is grayed, wtf?
DOPE
Hi thank's for the tutorial but when i want to BLEND -> "CREATE" was in grey..
学到了 thank you
Thanks for the love! :D
thanks for the tutorial but i want to ask on 11:07 Working on the letter “O” how to use the pen tool..? i don't understand.
Good 👍
When I replace spine with my blend it doesn't seem to go around the whole spine. In this case, an outline of the letter "K", seems to go around 75% of the letter and then stop. Any idea's why it's not completing? So strange.
Here's a tip: are you able to just slow down so it's easy to follow? Thanks (I just subbed)
Good luck sir
good
Why did u set the angle of the linear gradient to -45 and not to -90 degree?
i♥it
Woo
Man what is the difference between orientation in blending options pla answer
My replace spine is not working!
use your quick keys man, saves a ton of time for those looking for speed
When zoomed in, the blend doesn’t look all that smooth 😏. Tried to do a wire effect for a pull-up banner, and when scaled to a larger format, the blend-steps become visible.😞 Maybe for display purposes or small scale printing this could work, but not for large format.😏
Pleas use potoshop cs6
How can I make the lines thinner? The lines are so thick it´s difficult to read.
maybe try a smaller circle
