Hi Kaz, looks like you've made some solid moves toward light 'n comfortable pack hauling, while not neglecting the importance of giving yourself the best nights sleep you can get while out on the trail. Have you considered packing your tent last of all with your cooking kit next to top.?. Lots of advantages to going that way. In the time it takes to unpack your tent from the bottom of the sac it could be laid out and pegged down, and 2-3 minutes later you can be inside your poled up guyed out tent, with a brew on the way, pack and contents safe inside and ready for you to get stuff out whenever you need to. Keeps everything nice n dry when the weather's gone sideways. Morning time, pack everything in the shelter of your tent, hiking britches, trail runners n top on, n the tent stowed, n you're ready to roll. Don't forget to pack that neat little brew kit where it's handy for your rest stops, happy hiking gel and keep those super videos coming ! A tb A.R. Saker,
Hi Arthur 😃 Thank you so much-you’ve given me lots of super helpful advice! I will definitely give that a try next time and it would be lovely to pack everything up while still inside the tent 😍 I’m off to the USA mountains soon so hope to do some great filming there (and avoid the bears!!)
Hi, just found your channel and subbed 👍. Looking forward to watching the videos of your trip. I have the exact same pack and did my very first wild camp last weekend using it. The biggest downside was I found the side pockets pretty useless once the pack is full. Wish they’d used the stretch material. I’m really glad you’ve paired it with a waist pack as I was thinking of getting some extra space using this idea. Thanks for sharing your experience 😀
Hi Rachel! Agree with the side pockets 👍 I got on well with the set up, the pack was really comfortable and light but I couldn’t have managed without the waist pack for extra room. I also loved having everything so easy to hand rather than having to take my backpack off every time I wanted something. Thanks so much for the sub! 😃👍
Plenty of room for them flip flops. I think they are great piece of kit in the tent. I don't know how you managed to squeeze all that in. I struggle to pack a 65L. Well done.
You got the same trekkingpoles as me! 😁 I love them! Curious how it's going to work out for you. In June I wouldn't carry a lamp for my tent cause you have long light in the evening and you have your headtorch. 😁 Have fun on our 5 day trip! 😁👍 Kaat
That is really good advice about the lamp-I don’t know why I didn’t think of it! Of course I don’t need both 🤣🤣 So far it’s going well with the different system. I haven’t really missed anything.. yet 😊
Interesting to see your minimalist approach to gear selection and packing techniques. It will be interesting to hear how your trip was like with less than 8 kgs of gear. My approach is different as I use a 65 L backpack as the minimum when I go tenting, but I also need a little bit more gear in the mountains in my place than you will need on the Isle of Wight:) But how do you entertain your self in your tent before sleeping?
Hi! Yes I too love taking a 65L pack with all my stuff… I just don’t enjoy the bulk and weight of it. This 8kg experiment can only be done in the summer months I think! I’m just packing up to start day 2 and so far I have everything I need (I’m buying most of my food from stores as I go). I really enjoyed the light pack on my back yesterday and the waist pack was no problem. I would love to have my kindle with me for the evenings but last night I listened to an audiobook on Audible!
@@karenguttridge Good luck on day 2 and happy hiking! I always take my Kindle with me to the mountains as the power is long lasting on those devices! But Audible is a good replacement as you long as you have power:)
Hi Karen, sounds like an amazing trip! Just discovered your channel and enjoying the informative videos. I was wondering, how do you find the Nevis 100? I'm debating between that and the 200 for solo thru hiking trails, as I want to be light but to have room for a 65l backpack! I've done a lot of trails but never solo. Do you think porch size is suitable? And can you sit up comfortably in it? Thanks!

I was SO proud of myself for managing with that much smaller pack 🤣

What a lovely comment! Thank you so much and I’m glad you enjoy them 😃
great idea for spreading the weight away from your back. Good luck and hope the weather holds out! :)
Thank you! Really foggy and misty on my first days walk yesterday but think it will be hot today! 🥵 The carrying system is working well so far 😃

Haha.. yep, I squeezed the flip flops in! And I used them SO much. It was brilliant having a much lighter pack 😍
Love your videos, looking forward to the review of the new kit
Thank you! Day 1 done and the kit is great so far 👍 Spreading the weight is working much better for me 😃
@@karenguttridge that’s great, can’t wait to see the video
Very good, most important to get a good nights sleep every day or two, and have space in the pack, I think it is going to be a scorcher 😀
Just woken up! Had a great nights sleep and looks like it’s going to be hot today 🥵 Let the fun begin!
