I honestly didn't realize during the game that Scarlet was dismembered, I was thinking she was bled to death like an animal would be. I thought that was bad enough jeebus!
Re: the beheading; it looks to me like she uses her mouth to bite off his head. She probably kissed her father (obviously with her mouth), and forehead kisses are common for parents to give to children, so it could also a link to the kisses Martin used to give his daughter.
I did always wonder why Scarlet picked up her father and cradled him like that before biting his head off. It just goes to show you how a painful a decision it must have been for Martin to have killed his daughter the way he did. Also, I liked all of Homecoming. The complaints about the action don't really make much sense, since in this game Alex Shepherd believed himself to be a soldier, and even though it turns out he wasn't, the better combat skills help to support his delusion and get us to believe it more, which makes the twist hit us that much harder. It also had a nice sense of comradery between Alex, James Wheeler, and Elle Holloway working together to fight their way through the terrible situation they were in. At the end of the day, I've always considered Homecoming to just be a much more aggressive take on Silent Hill.

Another treatment for "imbalance of the humors" was to play music with certain tones and scale structures. I remember reading about this concept in detail as part of a music history course based in the European Renaissance. It would not surprise me if in a future horror game, there was a music-themed puzzle related to setting the phlegm, blood, bile, and urine producing humors back into alignment.

The atmosphere just isn't there for the most part either. The Otherworld is fairly bland. You can see the same corpse asset be used over and over throughout the game. There are a few moments that almost feel right, like the Otherworld version of the house, and then, there's like three puzzles that are just "rearrange 3 items". I agree that Akira Yamaoka was great here too, and some of the monster designs really are awesome (Lurkers and Scarlet being my favorite), but they can't make up for a badly constructed plot, terrible dialogue, uneven character models, bland atmosphere, clunky combat that boils down to being a long, repetitive and predictable rhythm game, a lack of SH-caliber atmosphere, and the absence of any memorable puzzles.
@@monochromenight8943 AGREED. It has a massive lack of atmosphere, plot, and character. All I know is Scarlet is a bitch of a boss to fight. This is my fav silent hill game. The story is great and the monsters are creepy. Great soundtrack too.
*At first when Alex gets off the stretcher, there's a clock in that room. It's the only clock in the game that seems to work, it wasn't even two o'clock in the morning yet. then there's an entity that's killing the doctors of the place, and when the protagonist tries to escape at 2:06 in the morning (time of the accident) something doesn't let him out of alchemilla. so the nightmare begins within the nightmare, from there time's stopped and everything takes place in alex's childhood in S.Glen in the 80's. you'll see objects from alex's childhood scattered around the scenarios, and also relics such as old cars and public heritages. in this case this game is timeless.. (however there're endings where he actually escaped from alchemilla)* *When you arrive in S.Glen, next to Dr.fitch's office there's the city bank with 4 lights on, 3 of which're bright and the last one's almost off (symbolizing the 4 families). Suggesting that the bank's still active with secret meetings, throughout the game the building remains linked with people on the premises arguing who knows what. It's one of the mysteries of the game that everything's abandoned but the financial part of the city's still in full swing! kidnappings have become a kind of business...* *if you look at alex's house from the outside, it's empty giving the impression that the shepherds have moved but when you enter the house, it's fully furnished but completely abandoned (the mirrors still reflect no furniture inside). looking through the backyard in the kitchen part this becomes more apparent (giving a paranormal air of the house being an ancestral ghost of the city).* *the woman locked in the hotel can also be the manifestation of alex's mother living in the world of the dead and him living in the world of the living, both're separated by a hole in the door that looks like the mouth of a monster. the 3 memories illustrate "the day of the accident" and why his mother was catatonic, it's implied that she committed suicide with that old gun and alex's at his doorstep talking to her. there're layers of SH that you can only reach if you're dead.. (there're also indications that it was curtis who built the machine that Lillian is trapped in, then it's possible to see his mother's corpse smiling.. of relief perhaps)* *in the dr.fitch office there's an underground passage that leads to SH, this otherworld passage's the mix of a hospital and the institution that alex's in at the beginning of the game. some hallways're the same as the protagonist walks in the prologue. It's also more apparent that Alex's exploring the characters' minds and their memories\secrets..* *this game starts in the late afternoon and culminates in a red dawn, it's notable that there's a change of climate similar to the original games. it was the first time anyone came out during the otherworld outdoors, alex was the only protagonist who saw the parallel world from the outside.* *There're Alex's toys locked in the attic of the house (also in the audio of the tape, Alex's father tells him to "go down the stairs") implying that Alex was locked in the attic and forced to sleep alone there (a dark place full of spider webs and venomous animals) in the infernal version, there're 4 monsters that represent each member of the family (in the attic there're 3 schism which're the dead Josh, the catatonic mother and Alex crouched in the corner of the attic) and in the lower part of the house there're the more aggressive schism who is alex's father. What confirms this symbolism're the four mannequins that're in the same position (including one lying down and the other propped up in the corner).* *if you analyze the drawings and read the descriptions, it's understood that there's an urban legend in S.Glen related to the lake (that's why the docks gate's sealed) by an alleged man who threw himself into toluca lake years ago, this story was told to scare the local children and this collective fear manifests itself as the executioner that exists in the game. So in the part where alex's with josh at the lake, james's still decomposed there in the depths and on the other side of the lake's possibly the abandoned car with a dead body locked in back seat. James' wife belongs to the same family tree as Alex (The Shepherds) although they're not related (in a promotional diary: Alex's mother was invited to attend a funeral for a childhood friend, but the funeral never took place) There's a misterious tomb named "someone's wife" in the Dargento Cemetery, but this grave has never been used. (The shepherd family mausoleum is not found in S.Glen, only the other 3 families. However, there's an abandoned mausoleum in central SH)* *Next to Curtis' junkyard's an abandoned mine that possibly became a secret passage to SH in the final stage of the game. The lair was where people were taken to be tortured and killed by order. it's located in the basement of the church, the only sacred place in the city where it's not affected by the other world. In Curtis' warehouse, many belongings of everyone who lived in the city're hidden and also the special clothes that Curtis wore.* *There're x-rays in alchemilla that show injuries that the protagonist suffered at the end of the game (including the brother and the judge) means that this game's upside down: it starts at the end and ends at the beginning, if you reverse the acts, it's alex going from the day of the accident to the hospitalization in alchemilla in the prologue. crazy huh? (Travis was tasked with transporting the patient since he was familiar with Toluca County and worked at Brahms Station, Alex's parents lied to the city that he was promoted to the army so they wouldn't lose their last son) still characteristic the journey starts in a way and turns into a whirlwind.. there's a real pyramid involving judges, politicians, doctors and police forces\dynastic families (as if everything happens in our world and not just in a nightmare).* The layers of Alex personality are represented by fog (sadness) and coming from the other world (hatred esentment), how he feels at every moment depending on what is discovered evealed. This game is introspective as f00k! more than it seems...
I pictured this different, Double Helix were fans of the saga, but also of Team Silent, what if all this game is a letter to the fans. Alex and Josh spent a lot of hours watching movies at the attic. What if Alex was in fact a fan of Silent Hill movies and games. That explained why he as a mental patient created SH5, a game that Team Silent never finish. This is an interesting lecture using Jacob's ladder as a premise. but also mixed with Toy Soldiers song (The intro of the video is exactly like the playground of the game, even with voices of kids), according with Team Silent, they watched a lot of music videos. Toy Soldiers is a song about abuse, that leads to drugs. Drugs is a topic of SH, White Claudia, The PTV, but also a main topic of Jacob's Ladder. I saw that in this way, Alex has indeed a mental illness, therefore he is sent to a mental hospital, in there he created the whole SH5, just like Jacob Singer did in Jacob's Ladder, we don't need to forget that Jacob Singer did a homecoming in the movie, a fake one, turns out he never returned from Vietnam. Therefore Alex is telling us his life in this game, a tough life with an abusive father, Adam saw him like a pariah for his mental illness, bc in that way he can abuse of Josh, his mother knew all, but she was like a shadow in that house. This explained the figure of PH, an executioner, in his delirium Alex saw his father as the main big bad, the most popular enemy of SH. So the whole game is the sorrow of Alex, bc he can't save his mother, and his brother, that explained why the last enemy is a manifestation of Lillian and Josh, but not Adam. SH is so mess up in this game, bc this is a fanfiction literally, if a Alex is a fan of games and movies of SH, like us, he is building this game with his own ideas, just like Jacob Singer did on Jacob's Ladder. Now about the accident of Josh, could happen or not, just like happen on Jacob's joruney with his son, we don't know for sure in that movie, if Jacob had something to do with the accident of his son, or not. Bc again like Alex, this could be a remorse, for leaving before this happen, we need to remember that on Jacob's Ladder, nothing really happen, he is just fighting for his life full of some experimental drug. Your explanation of the legend, that has to do with James, and The concept of Shepherd's Glen, only confirmed even more this background of the game, nothing of this is real, for us SH2 is the best game, so in a delirium of a fan of SH, this fan is gonna be part of that reality. That explained why Adam said to Alex, you are not a soldier, just like the seer said to Jacob "you aren't in this world anymore". So this give us a big lecture of Homecoming, like a game that is almost a sequel of Jacob's Ladder, but mixed with a fan of Silent hill of games and movies, that explained the mash up of both realities in the game. While SH4 was about a fan of videogames, or most likely a person that never leave the room playing videoames, SH5 is about a fan of SH, a mirror to us. That's deep.
@@LosMSR incredible insight, I had never left the fandom bubble and this makes some sense! it's believable and if so I would say that this would be the most mature game in the saga, at least it's a macabre journey but not saccharine. It's something funereal and melancholic but without drama, you know? generally these short stories in other media tend to be quite melodramatic.
@@GOLD-CS Homecoming is the most crazy game of the whole saga, bc the premise is Jacob's Ladder, in Jacob's journey, nothing happen at the end, he even had a fake homecoming just like Alex, so some people said this game isn't psychological enough, which in fact is totally in that way, we are seeing a mind construction of an entire plot. I guess Double Helix was brilliant to add this concept, bc matched perfect with the crazy world that happened in Homecoming, a mix of games and movies, like for example the judge stabbed Alex with the drill at tthe thigh, but then he managed to fight without pain, that's a proof, that everything is in his mind. So Homecoming is more like a sequel of Jacob Ladder's than even the remake, bc the idea is more interesting.
Finally able to leave a comment on your channel lol. I absolutely love your content Muse! I binge your videos all the time!!! Thanks for all the hard work
You make amazing videos, keep it up. I admire how in-depth your perspective is of the Silent Hill games. Even though the series has been at a stand still, it's content like yours that keeps the games alive.
4:17 hi you have a problem there. As a person who knows Hebrew really really well Ruth doesn’t mean friendship- although Reut ( רעות) is like a trust between friend, a very strong friendship, you most use it to describe soldiers relationships...
Vovin no, I’m trying to think about an example for that in English but nothing come up to my head. רעות is a word in the Bible to describe the the complicated relationship between Moses and Joshua while facing the battles they fought in the dessert I think that’s when the word first showed up. In Hebrew you always say it to describe something that related to war, soldiers, commanders - someone you fight with in the field. Although Ruth (רות) is a strong manipulative woman in the Bible mother of David so it can be related to that.
Muse, the mercurial cross isn’t the symbol for basic mercury, it’s the symbol for mercury transmutated whit sulphur, the first stage to the philosopher stone. Still beautiful video, thank you for this awesome content
YES! Another video!! I cannot get enough of these! So many games you can do this kind of video on!! The shadow on the bed? I do not remember seeing this all of this. They should give you a Ph.D in Silent Hill.
All exit signs are leading to nowhere else than endless darkness in the Dr Fitch's hospital world, which is still a symbol of the cruel truth of sacrifice
While I consider everything after 4 to be its own canon separate from the original series, I think on its own, Homecoming could have been a fine game. Nothing that would break the mold or challenge how we saw the genre, but easily something that could fit its own niche of pseudo moody horror.
Despite not liking the plot of homecoming in is wholeness and finding it contrived and badly put Togheter in some points, I really loved the boss design especially the fitch family gods. I believe that if the whole game had a more twin peaks vibe, and was based around Alex investigating is brother and the other children’s disappearance and unraveling the dark secrets of the cult. Whitout the ending plot twist, or maybe whit it, but more In line of: Joshua was the one to kill In the first place, Alex was the loved one, treated well especially by is father, and Alex had to sacrifice joshua as a trial in to adulthood but he refused and killed is father instead, then escaping whit Joshua away from shepherd Glenn and forging himself a new identity as a federal agent. Is brother get kidnapped again to be killed by Holloway, and Alex as to go back.
this was my favorite moment. music and bossfight of Silent Hill Homecoming. I can't say the rest of the game hit as well, but I was thankful for this at least.
The Fitch family kind of got the raw-end of the raw-end of the deal. Every other family "gets" a "clean" method of killing their child, but the Fitch family deaths are always bloody, which undoubtedly messes with the parent's psyche even more than if they'd simply drowned, strangled or buried their child. I doubt Martin's the first Fitch who's had psychological problems.
The serpent around the stick is actually a type of parasitic worm that burrows into the skin. In order to completely remove the worm you had to use a stick to coil it around for about a week. I think that symbole might just be the single worm around the stick.
That parasite is what originally inspired the image of a snake around a stick as the symbol of healing and healing gods, according to some theories. But ultimately, it's the same symbol.
👏👏👏 Perfect! Congratulations!! SH:Homecoming although has been poorly developed, still has a nice plot. Too bad for the franchise to have wasted this great potential.

*When you arrive in S.Glen, next to Dr.fitch's office there's the city bank with 4 lights on, 3 of which're bright and the last one's almost off (symbolizing the 4 families). Suggesting that the bank's still active with secret meetings, throughout the game the building remains linked with people on the premises arguing who knows what. It's one of the mysteries of the game that everything's abandoned but the financial part of the city's still in full swing! kidnappings have become a kind of business...*
*if you look at alex's house from the outside, it's empty giving the impression that the shepherds have moved but when you enter the house, it's fully furnished but completely abandoned (the mirrors still reflect no furniture inside). looking through the backyard in the kitchen part this becomes more apparent (giving a paranormal air of the house being an ancestral ghost of the city).*
*the woman locked in the hotel can also be the manifestation of alex's mother living in the world of the dead and him living in the world of the living, both're separated by a hole in the door that looks like the mouth of a monster. the 3 memories illustrate "the day of the accident" and why his mother was catatonic, it's implied that she committed suicide with that old gun and alex's at his doorstep talking to her. there're layers of SH that you can only reach if you're dead.. (there're also indications that it was curtis who built the machine that Lillian is trapped in, then it's possible to see his mother's corpse smiling.. of relief perhaps)*
*in the dr.fitch office there's an underground passage that leads to SH, this otherworld passage's the mix of a hospital and the institution that alex's in at the beginning of the game. some hallways're the same as the protagonist walks in the prologue. It's also more apparent that Alex's exploring the characters' minds and their memories\secrets..*
*this game starts in the late afternoon and culminates in a red dawn, it's notable that there's a change of climate similar to the original games. it was the first time anyone came out during the otherworld outdoors, alex was the only protagonist who saw the parallel world from the outside.*
*There're Alex's toys locked in the attic of the house (also in the audio of the tape, Alex's father tells him to "go down the stairs") implying that Alex was locked in the attic and forced to sleep alone there (a dark place full of spider webs and venomous animals) in the infernal version, there're 4 monsters that represent each member of the family (in the attic there're 3 schism which're the dead Josh, the catatonic mother and Alex crouched in the corner of the attic) and in the lower part of the house there're the more aggressive schism who is alex's father. What confirms this symbolism're the four mannequins that're in the same position (including one lying down and the other propped up in the corner).*
*if you analyze the drawings and read the descriptions, it's understood that there's an urban legend in S.Glen related to the lake (that's why the docks gate's sealed) by an alleged man who threw himself into toluca lake years ago, this story was told to scare the local children and this collective fear manifests itself as the executioner that exists in the game. However, there's an abandoned mausoleum in central SH)*
*Next to Curtis' junkyard's an abandoned mine that possibly became a secret passage to SH in the final stage of the game. The lair was where people were taken to be tortured and killed by order. it's located in the basement of the church, the only sacred place in the city where it's not affected by the other world. In Curtis' warehouse, many belongings of everyone who lived in the city're hidden and also the special clothes that Curtis wore.*
*There're x-rays in alchemilla that show injuries that the protagonist suffered at the end of the game (including the brother and the judge) means that this game's upside down: it starts at the end and ends at the beginning, if you reverse the acts, it's alex going from the day of the accident to the hospitalization in alchemilla in the prologue. crazy huh? (Travis was tasked with transporting the patient since he was familiar with Toluca County and worked at Brahms Station, Alex's parents lied to the city that he was promoted to the army so they wouldn't lose their last son) still characteristic the journey starts in a way and turns into a whirlwind.. there's a real pyramid involving judges, politicians, doctors and police forces\dynastic families (as if everything happens in our world and not just in a nightmare).*
The layers of Alex personality are represented by fog (sadness) and coming from the other world (hatred
esentment), how he feels at every moment depending on what is discovered
evealed.
That's the only part of the game I actually remember quite a lot. The rest was just so forgetable to me. Great video
Could it be...? Symbolism videos on the monsters like I was wondering?
4:17 hi you have a problem there. As a person who knows Hebrew really really well Ruth doesn’t mean friendship- although Reut ( רעות) is like a trust between friend, a very strong friendship, you most use it to describe soldiers relationships...
Wouldn't that be a covenant then?
All exit signs are leading to nowhere else than endless darkness in the Dr Fitch's hospital world, which is still a symbol of the cruel truth of sacrifice
great analysis.i can see u did a lot of research. hope this channel can be discovered by more people
While I consider everything after 4 to be its own canon separate from the original series, I think on its own, Homecoming could have been a fine game. Nothing that would break the mold or challenge how we saw the genre, but easily something that could fit its own niche of pseudo moody horror.
Nice as always! I love your videos so much
girl, you are such a good speaker
"It may have been a way to give him peace" as she throws his body against the wall
Awesome analysis!
Oh shit, we’re doing homecoming now? I’m in!
I'm obsessed with how creepy this boss is
I love this video ;) It is poetic but factual too
I think that sub count symbolises a underrated channel !
u live in lubbock righ
this was my favorite moment. music and bossfight of Silent Hill Homecoming. I can't say the rest of the game hit as well, but I was thankful for this at least.
and once again a great video...
Nice series you have here. Thank you.
I think Homecoming is overhated.
I love re-view your vids. We need more of those
The Fitch family kind of got the raw-end of the raw-end of the deal. Every other family "gets" a "clean" method of killing their child, but the Fitch family deaths are always bloody, which undoubtedly messes with the parent's psyche even more than if they'd simply drowned, strangled or buried their child. I doubt Martin's the first Fitch who's had psychological problems.
Love these videos❤❤❤❤
scarlett monster design is one of the most creepiest and disturbing monster ever made
Amazing video
Did anyone ever tell you that you are a really great narrator 😊
I actually really love this game
I dont care what anyone says
I mjust a big silent hill fan period
This is insightful, love your content.
Damn she is scary af let me be honest with yall who the hell would want a doll made of flesh with a porcelain shell
Unlike many I actually really enjoyed home comming thought written well and game play super challenging that’s for shinning some light on this
The film grain game is strong.
The innocent are transformed into Angelic\Dæmonic beings depending on how you see them. This is the holy work of the Red God\Devil.
8:37 looks like a modified version of the Halo of the Sun.
Only you can make a video on Homecoming and make it not seem terrible!
Flawless video.
Awesome video! i love this game!
Love your videos. Can’t find a deep dive into homecoming. Do you have one? If not can you pleeeeease make one??
her doll looks like Cynthia from Rugrats
Love your videos
finaly my fav SH waifu....
I really want to play this one and Downpour. They just seem like my cup of tea compared to silent hill 2.
👏👏👏 Perfect! Congratulations!!
SH:Homecoming although has been poorly developed, still has a nice plot. Too bad for the franchise to have wasted this great potential.
nice video!!
i dont even know what this game is but this video is so interesting
This is really some mind blown shit
All of this could’ve been avoided if Dhalia was a better mom.
Why Cait someone just nuke silent Hill like there is no way anything can survive a nuke it is hotter THAN THE SURFACE OF THE SUN!!!
I hope you get to the other Homecoming bosses ^^
I don't mean this as a criticism but I kinda miss the old intro music for these vids. Is it possible to maybe sprinkle it in a new vid here or there?
If homecoming had a lot less action, It would be a great SH game, i really like the history, but ALL the action just does not fit a silent hill game.
*when period blood inspires your nail color*
I never played this game my ahole brother made me watch him play games starting with the OG RE4.
I grew to be better than him @ games
its really sad this was in one of the worst silent hill games in the series especially in one with so much potencial that it missed
