I loved the analysis, but I feel like you missed a bit of depth on oxytocine, where I feel that the song also does a lot to have Billie reclaim her dominance and strength, she is clearly in control of the situation which she wasn’t before while being abused. She’s recontextualizing her sexual experience in a sort of positive in control way, which makes me think that this song is part of “happy Billie”. Shes moved away from the abuse that she took and she’s moving towards a relationship or sexual partner that does give her some sort of pleasure by letting her be in control instead of her being unwillingly controlled. I think the importance of the track to that theme of the album was understated in the review.

I think that the aspect of this album I admire the most is that after the Pheobe Bridgers-esque Happier than Ever making seemingly the perfect closer there is one more track of Billie criticizing her own perspective of the song.

FINNEAS! lol. What a great review, you hit the nail on the head for me on the album concepts, the production. Even though critics are calling this album better than her debut I see a lot of fans aren’t appreciating it as much. All of her projects are wonderful and in my opinion she just gets better and better each time. The lyrics are better, production is better and the themes more cohesive.

I was impatiently waiting for this video!
By the way, Everybody Dies is my favorite too. We're always trying to run away from death, fearing we'll be forgotten, that no one will miss us or that we didn't make enough of an impact on the world. I lost my whole family in 12 weeks, one after the other. This was long before covid, but watching my mother cry, fold, and fight to stay while I reassured her it was complely justified and that she had the power to choose when she left this earth, I secretly feared my own end. The whole experience made the fact that I too was mortal, that much more apparent. It is scary to hear the click ticking knowing the end one day will come, but somehow, this song makes everything okay. It makes me realize I'm really not as alone as I feel, and I love her for that.

I appreciate your thoughtful and in depth analysis of the album. It just deepens my already great appreciation for Billie and Finneas, and for this album. Loving the album, the intimate storytelling, the themes, and how they choose to explore these different topics, the choices they make and how impactful they are to music as a whole. I get so exhausted with how dismissive people can be about her music without even truly LISTENING. Just as other artists may have impacted her music, so to does her music impact others and it will continue to resonate long after others may fall to obscurity. Of course this is just my opinion, but I see the changes already in the music of today and how she introduced other lesser known artists to a wider audience because of her influence and appreciation. She always invokes an emotion with music, it's theatrical, and paints so many different pictures and thoughts. Now I'm losing mine, anyway! Thank you! ❤️

What an insightful video. After hearing Happier Than Ever for the first time, I felt the huge increase in maturity and subtlety compared to her earlier music but couldn't articulate what made it that way. Went straight to this video, and you took the words outta my mouth. Billie Eilish's multiplicity is on full display.
    And yeah, FINNEAS!!

i like hearing the perspective of someone who is older and in a much different life stage than me or billie. i loved the album when i first heard it midnight on july 30th but i've loved mulling it over for the last couple months and discovering it more and more and im glad i came across the analysis. the honesty of this album is what makes it shine in my opinion. it hurts me to even hear some of the honesty especially since it makes me think of situations in my own life where such honesty is as hard.

Another Professor Skye Record Review that's as long (or nearly as long) as the album itself lol I think this will probably stand out (for the time being; I mean, Donda is less than a week away) as being your trademark review as it highlights the hard-biting, well throughout (and drawn out) analysis that you've made you're staple.
As the person who finally convinced me to take a plunge into Billie's music (after being aware but uncurious) after hearing this record, I still maintain that while I can appreciate her and Finneas' talent, I'll probably still only be a casual listener of her; really listening only to those songs I really, really dig like "xanny," "when the party's over," or "bury a friend" from her debut; her James Bond and "everything i wanted" stand-alone tracks, and "Getting Older," "Power," "Happier Than Ever," and "Male Fantasy." The whisper singing and pulsating production can feel monotonous at times and make it harder to distinguish songs from one another but (again) I do appreciate the craft and artwork being displayed here and agree with everything you said.
And while I initially kept hinting at/thinking that this would be her "Melodrama"; Lorde's sophomoric debut that you also mention in this review, I think this album, thematically at least (with your spot-on description of the "4 Billie's") is actually (surprisingly) a bit more like Lana Del Rey's classic 2012 album "Born to Die: Paradise Edition" than Lorde's in spirit (though chronologically it accomplishes solidifying her talent, skill, and prowess like the 2017 Kiwi's project).
As a very casual Lana fan ("Love" was the only non-"Young and Beautiful" track I listened to hers after Born to Die/Paradise until "Norman F'ing Rockwell" and "Chemtrails Over the Country Club"; again, prompted by this channel) Born to Die is such a classic album not only because it still remains in the Billboard Hot 200 nearly a decade after its release (helped, in part, by my recent purchase of the Paradise Edition on vinyl) but also because it would go on to directly inspire (in retrospect) artists like Lorde, Taylor, and of course, Billie.
Yes, even recent Lana is invoked here "Everybody Dies" (especially you're description) is literally:
    "Don't ask if I'm happy
    You know that I'm not
But, at best, I can say I'm not sad
'Cause hope is a dangerous thing
For a woman like me to have...
But I have it" - "hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have"
Burnt by being in an unhealthy (potentially abusive) relationship, as well the dying inside that comes with being sexually objectified? (a.k.a. "hurt Billie")? "Diet Mountain Dew," "Million Dollar Man" & "Carmen," "Lolita"
Sexy in a sensual, sultry, explicit yet (using your term) "unvulgar" way (a.k.a. "erotic Billie)?": "Born to Die" & "National Anthem"
Lamenting a lost relationship with a lover or even a female best friend (a.k.a. "heart-broken Billie)?" "Blue Jeans" & "This is What Makes Us Girls"
Owning your fame and proudly proclaiming your participation in recreational/pastime activates often associated with adolescent males (i.e. pornography viewing and playing video game) (a.k.a. "happy Billie)? "Radio," "Gods & Monsters" & "Video Games," "Lucky Ones"
This is perhaps what surprised me most about the album given I wasn't expecting the parallels with Lana's. Anyways, great review (and get input from goat!).

It is SO nice to hear someone stop and talk about their art. And acknowledge them as artists, not just fan boy all over Billie. It's also great to hear Finneas get the amount of credit he deserves for knowing exactly how to produce his sister's voice so well. His own latest releases are impeccably produced, as well.
When you mentioned other Pop Music siblings who had a similar level of influence, my brain went directly to Donny & Marie Osmond. Someone in my fam grew up listening to their music and they definitely had a similar level of influence, as far as fan gurls go. My mom was one.
Your psychological breakdown of the album was worth the watch! This album definitely has a different flavor, but it tastes so good!

Billie Eilish and FINNEAS are merely collaborators a duo at best and when will you review FINNEAS solo work.
GOLDWING according to Billie is about avoiding the abuses of the industry wild navigating it as a young person. How being the angel of that industry is treacherous.
This feels like the HTE of her abuse unrelated to the abusive relationship narrative. it’s
OverHeated is a good metaphor for someone being imperfect i love how she flips the critics words to empower herself throughout.

It is only permissible to call it art when the boys finally catch on and the 47-year-old professors? We see it first. We claim it first. Don't forget that! BTW the name of her dog is Shark. I remember you once said, Billie Eilish is billie and Finns. I think the team is much bigger. I do not agree with you that people with large teams behind them do not concentrate on "ART". honestly, I'm pretty sure Billie Eilish is a brand that has a very large team working hard behind it.
I am interested in the question of how an artist publishes a second after her first big hit album and thus faces the crowd of people who are just waiting to tear it up.
I can't shake the feeling that Billie's team and label controlled the "edginess" on this record.
I love edginess and I think some of the songs on the new album want to push "pop" (if you can call it that) to the limit. For example, I love the distortion at the end of the title track. (We could argue whether this is really edgy, because outside of the mainstream, if you look over to PC music and hyperpop, you wouldn't call their music edgy.)
But these songs somehow remain the exception.
And maybe I'll go into the narrative mentioned above, that one waits to see her fail, as unfortunately that's the case with too many female musicians.
ahhhhhh I hope you'll understand what Im saying.
Greetings from Germany, I love your reviews.

The have a big marketing team however they are left alone to record the music. They had some input/interference from the record company while recording the first album. They were pressured to write a hit. They had no interference with this album, which is probably due to the massive critical and commercial success of the last one. This is could be why there haven't been any massive hits yet, although Therefor I Am performed strongly.

She doesn't have that. I try to only appreciate my artists from afar. I truly love their work. This to me is an almost perfect story album. I don’t want to give anything away but disregard anything you know about this artist as this stand alone in their catalog. Everything else he does was mostly satire and for fun music. But this was a more serious attempt at something cohesive and I think it deserves so much more praise than it has ever received.

Nah. I saw that someone put that interpretation up for review on Genius Lyrics. Billie said that she and Finneas crafted this to be an "insane" dance song for concerts. Do you really think that she would want to see her fans dancing to a song sung from the view-point of her abuser? Nope. This is "Hostage"-taking "Bad Guy" Billie to the max. Some of her fans might feel "uncomfortable" with the Erotic Billie - but, there she is, in her art. Deal with it or not.
