  • Join me to illustrate this iconic pub scene of The Dove, Hammersmith in London. This is more my natural illustration style and what I revert to when doing commissions. Notice I am still not all that neat! Ha ha. I think you may pick up some nice little tricks to improve your ink and watercolour sketching by checking out this video.

Thanks for sharing. nice sketch from start to finish. For me the breaks in the chimney don't work. The white lines are cool but these would be massive breaks in reality. I'd rather sketch a few for just the texture to suggest the presence of them. But it's all about personal interpretation. Nice job. Cheers

Great tips with this sketch Taria, I especially loved the white bricks on a dark surface, that worked beautifully. Thanks!

Platinum Preppy's rock! Like cheap sunglasses... they do the job and I'm not worried if it breaks or gets lost.

Hi Taria. I have spent many happy hours in The Dove many years ago. So glad it’s still there unlike many others in the U K. X

TSA..nice,my gel pins never work, there crap. Going to get some paint marker's I've never tried those. The nice thing about doing the morter joints in white I think is the base color change's it somewhat, turns it gray like real mortor 😎

    Just to add:
If anybody just wants to try the Platinum Preppy, there is no need to buy the converter and an entire bottle of ink, right away.
Platinum sells it‘s water proof CARBON ink in cartridges that fit the Preppy. (not the ink included with the pen)
Six cartridges only cost around 5$.

Thanks for the tips on ink line work that really get the work past the ugly duckling stage. I nearly ruined a sketchbook not knowing how much COPIC markers soak through the paper. Faber Castell make great art supplies.

Could you tell me if your Platinum Preppy Fountain Pen is a Fine-03 or an Extra Fine-02? I love your work. Looking forward to your book in November.

I was just checking this pen out online and discovered that you can buy a pack of 4 platinum carbon ink cartridges that are also waterproof. They only come in black though so if you want another color you'd have to buy the converter and bottled ink. I haven't used a fountain pen before so I was wondering does it work out cheaper over time to buy the converter and bottled ink rather than the 4pk of cartridges? I guess there'd also be less plastic waste using the converter 🤔

do you find that the waterproof ink causes clogging in your fountain pen? i've been wanting to switch to my fountain instead of microns, but haven't used it with waterproof ink yet.

I like the sketch and it was interesting and informative as to how you put it all together. I am curious as to the subject’s size on the paper. If one is trying to highlight the pub should it have been a bit larger with a bit less surrounding items?- OkieSketcher1949
