This film was surprising in so many ways, I say this in a very positive light. At first the title gave me pause as to why any filmmaker would want to focus on the death of "The Roi Soleil". The life of France's greatest King was highlighted by passion, adventure, brilliance and relentless ambition that sparked off monumental socio, economic and political achievements.
I came into this having watched the first season of "Versailles" and the film actually works to make the show much more poignant and stronger. It does especially well in humanising King Louis XIV even further.
The film's greatest achievement aside from Jean Pierre Leaud's performance was the depiction of palliative care and the steady decline of a terminally ill patient. This was executed very accurately based on what I've experienced in the past with family.

Yes, he just got old. It's strange since the films he did fifty years ago haven't aged much, so it's surprising to see that he did.

Did you get paid for this role? Because I think you should have paid them for all the pampering you got. Really, though it would have been nice if his hair was set on fire. (,,,CHEERS)

Please put your head up your arse and speak to your brain. It is so severely mistaken.
