      That, in combination with that "good ol' boy" accent. You know he's never paid a handy man to do anything. He even has the name of your neighbor you ask for information because he seems to have done it all. *"Your helicopter won't start? Go ask Dennis. He'll know what to tell ya'."* 😅😅

    When I saw this video was over 9 minutes long, I thought it would be full of useless rambling, but it was great - everything you explained was very helpful. Being able to see both sides of the wall made it easy to understand, and I really liked how you explained common mistakes to avoid. Thank you!

    Really, the best! I'm a teacher used to explaining complicated things to people who don't understand. I came to this video not knowing or understanding anything about using a drill, and certainly not about toggle bolts. But you, sir, walked me through it step by step with visuals and clear language. The public schools could use a guy like you in the classroom! Thank you.

    Dennis: I wanted to thank you for saving me from trouble. I was installing a small cabinet onto drywall with toggle bolts, but hadn't thought to use the wood board. Had I not used the board, I never would have gotten the bolts tight. Using the board, I was able to do exactly what you taught--exert pressure allowing the bolt to properly tighten. It came out great thanks to your help.

    I teach a gallery management course to undergraduates at a public university, so like one of the previous commenters, I too am VERY accustomed to demonstrating very detailed processes... I've recently tasked a couple of my graduate teaching assistants with installing some overhead shelving in our workroom/storage areas. The walls have no plywood backing and we have metal studs. The shelves will be housing the smaller (yet somewhat heavy) things we use to display artworks like 20+ floating shelves, iMac computers, and projectors and packing and shipping materials. THIS tutorial will save me SO MUCH time and frustration because I don't have to be there to walk them through this process. Plus you've explained some of the nuances of "why," not just the "how." That extra information is critical when people need to understand how to troubleshoot. Thanks for such a detailed video!

    THANK GOD (literally) FOR YOUR VIDEO. Ive watched a few videos by other ppl to try to learn whytall my effort was useless when the screw & toggle just kept spinning & wouldnt tighten up once inside the drilled holes, so I was so stressed, & I assumed if they would screw up & tighten then they mustnt be able to unscrew either so I had no clue what to do next. 3 days later after looking at my shelf half hanging off these loose bolts & seriously stressing about it, I dared try to unscrew them (assuming why would they unscrew if they wouldnt screw in''?) but that actually worked, but I had no clue why. Meanwhile the toggles of course were now lost down the back of the wall. THANKU for explaining to pull th srew with the toggles back toward U so toggle bolts are against the back of the wall. THAT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Something so simple

    I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated this video. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us the tricks of the trade. I needed to use toggle bolts to hang a tv. I know I would have messed up and forgot to but the bolt through the mounting bracket first if it wasn’t for your video. I made both my teenage boys watch your video too. Take care. 🙏👍

      @@dwcoffey looks like the preference is for fastening to studs. Going to check your videos for info about that. Double checked the printed instructions, recommend drilling a hole to fit the toggle through the cabinet too, seems a lot simpler than what I had imagined after watching your video ☺️🤞😅

    Great vid to explain. One thing though. You can get the other toggle in on opposite side of board after tightening the one. You kind of have to do both together. It’s tricky.

      No thank you; quick question why is it so hard to find a 1/16” drill bit long enough to poke through and establish whether I need to use toggle bolts or anchor ? They only have the tiny short one’s

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  3 года назад +1

      @@25bonsai in drywall construction, the drywall is only 1/2” to 5/8” thick, so you won’t need a very long bit. Also, you can use a larger bit, but it will of course leave a larger hole, so I’d recommend using a stud finder. If you have plaster walls, the plaster may be up to 1” thick, so if you only chuck a small amount into the drill, a 1/16” bit should still be long enough. Hope this helps!
