Before boxing all I did was sit in my room and play video games 24hrs a day 7 days a week, I had no job,no confidence, no friends and worst of all I had no self respect. That was 4 years ago and now Iam a completely different person. I honestly don't know where I would be today with out boxing. Boxing has given me the confidence to go out and get a job and make friends and get on with my life. Everyday I tell myself if I can boxing I can do anything. Walking into that gym for the first time was the hardest thing I've ever done but by far the best decision I've ever made. Great vid btw👍
I started to train boxing at age of 30 using just hevybag and Jason's videos. after 6 months I decided to try local boxing gym and test myself at another level. nobody there didnt belive me that it was my first time at boxing gym. 5 months later, i had my first exibitional fight, won it by decision. thanks for yor videos, you were main motivation at the time I started, and I still dont miss anything you publish on youtube. God bless you
P.S. Sorry for my english :)
excellent! thanks for sharing and congrats!
i am 14. had four amatuer fights and won only one of em! keep pushing foward, never any room for negativity.
Keep going bro!
Definitely a great mentor to a lot of people even tho they have never met you alot of respect for what you do man
thank you!
he's helped me no end. been training for 4 months now at the gym and he's had just as much involvement on my progress as my other coach at the gym. I'm training to have an amateur fight and will be buying his instructional guide when I start a camp although as a starter his free RUclips clips are unbelievably helpful. would love to have him as a full time coach
I think when you talk you have something real to say. I've been watching a lot of boxing tutorials on youtube and some people sound like they just like they attention, like to have an audience. I think you have something real to offer and your motivations are sincere! I like your channel!
i truly appreciate your comment
JT Van V definitely You can hear the passion not only in your talking, but in the way you genuinely want to teach proper boxing.A lot of people can box and they're gifted. But there aren't as many who have the gift of being able to teach it,or the want to teach it to others for that you have my utmost respect 👊🏻
I can relate to your story. I got bullied and I got beat up really badly on a couple occasions when I was in high school. I felt really insecure, and I started training in boxing when I was 16. It gave me confidence and inner peace.
Fast forward, I decided I wanted to start an amateur career a year ago at age 22, but I injured my shoulder weight lifting, and it has never felt the same since. Luckily I didn't tear anything, and it's a chronic inflammation issue.
I'm very passionate about boxing, and I want to get back in the boxing gym, and start a career. I just turned 23. At times when I try to box my shoulder hurts really bad, and I'm nervous I may tear my rotator cuff which would require surgery, and I may not be able to do anything with it. What do you think I should do???
Sir i never met u..but u r my teacher..i am amateur boxer from india..it's hard to find good teacher here.after losing to state champin sparring then i start to find a good teacher who tech me..show me my mistake..then i find your video about sparring..start with double jab..counter from angles..how to make angle..i learn it all..and in next sparring i won. I remember everything u teach..it's like your in my corner when nobody is there..so THANK YOU for every thing..i will become a champ one day..and u will be in my corner sir..thank you..
Exactly what I'm now dealing with. I use boxing for stress relief.
You are an absolute inspiration.
Like most fighters, the biggest battles were within my own life. fighting truly bought me a inner peace. if I don't train i really can feel life's pressures overwhelming me. Fighting had also allowed me to train with like minded people all over the world. It's funny, most people who fight do it for similar reasons.
Wow my story seems to be going exactly how yours went. I got into boxing for the same reason. I remember my second time sparring. I was thinking "this isn't for me" as I was getting hit. Had a black eye. But I knew If I quit I wouldn't live it down. Especially when I'm still searching for my life purpose. Thank you for this video.
exactly, respect
I totally relate I was bullied as a little kid then my dad put me in a martial arts class but once I started to box then and only then did I feel free and confident and an overall peace heart and calm mind truly inspired by the people I have met along my journey as a competing boxer especially being the smallest guy in my weight class keep doing what you doing bro
Almost haven't trained in half a year because i broke my wrist and hand. Saw that this video came out right when it came out, but didn't want to see it. Not because i actually don't want to see it, but because i feel guilty that i haven't been training and boxing videos provoke this. Reason why I'm watching it now is because I'm starting again tomorrow. Love your videos, you're a big inspiration.
how did it go man?
It went fine. They were happy to see me again and that was nice. Still hurts to throw hooks though. Thanks for asking :-)
I've just taken an interest in boxing, I've never really accomplished anything in life and I feel as though boxing would be a good way to make me feel accomplished, whether it be because of the gruelling training or eventually winning my first fight. I've watched a bunch of your videos and I'm pumped. Just gotta find a gym now
I'm 6'6 240lbs so I got some weight to lose as it's not muscle but I'm ready. I don't mind being hit in the face, I've been in some brutal street fights and I just laugh through it. In a way it feels good, it makes me feel alive
+Barts Tadpole that attitude is quite good for boxing as well
If you're in London, go to Fight City.
JT you're the man! Never had the money to afford a monthly membership for a gym but once I get out of university it's one of the first things i'm going to do. Your videos have helped me learn so much already.
Definitely the best boxing trainer on RUclips.
I grew up getting picked on. Very troubled, always getting in confrontations. I was scared to stick up for myself. It was a mixture of not knowing who I am, overly respecting the opponent, and being all talk and no action. Never really gotten into a fight, just nearly getting into one. My family saw me as a hard ass, but I was a coward. It wasn't until I joined the army that I was confronted with an obstacle. Beat the guy in-front of me or get the shit beat out of me. So i was forced to perform. Surprisingly, me throwing hands came naturally to me and my speed was deadly. Once I realized this, I became someone else. Currently, I am now 24 and want to give boxing a try. 100% I was hesitant because people told me i was to old. Your video changed that for me. I signed up and had my first sparring match......destroyed the guy. He had more experience than me and was younger than me. And a south paw which was so confusing at first. But I did great and realized I have a natural talent for this sport. And most of all I really enjoy punching and getting punched lol (more punching than receiving though lol) So, thanks a bunch man, Im going to take this as far as fate lets me. Ill remember this video always.
I totally relate to this. Discovered this when I was 16 and it really made me grow up into a confident adult. I got back into it two years ago and even though I'm older I still got it :)
This is really great, JT!! Somehow I sense a lot of boxers (including myself) share a similar story in the sense that boxing gave us the confidence and peace that we yearned for since a young age. Can really feel what you're saying, man! Great stuff! Keep boxing!
thank you
This was beautifully done! I've noticed my posture changed from the confidence and inner peace martial arts brought me. I love that you have to pay more attention to technique when you aren't genetically gifted. Soooo many benefits! Thanks for the content brother!
thx bro!!
True that, martial arts generally give inner peace and confidence to the ones who practice them, which at the same time lowers their amount of violent confrontations in real life. Not all of them sure, some remain conflictive assholes, but most of the time they go for the better. And one thing that many people don't get is that this benefit extends to ALL martial arts, not only the asian zen-like ones.
Sincere words of a true fighter...keep going!
Used certain videos off your page for a while now, but then hit a few that helped me massively through a plateau so have dug deeper to reveal a real treasure trove. Now I see this and it's a moving story I can relate to on so many levels with the starting out part almost mirroring my struggles exactly.
Fast becoming my favourite channel on RUclips, hope you keep up the great work for a long time to come Coach!
JT you really have a gift for this man. cant thank you enough for all iv learned from you. I hope you have a chance to make a great career out of teaching something you have such a passion for
Mahalo JT, very inspirational my friend. Keep on telling us your story's, keep doing what you love to do. It will always come back ten folds...
Your honesty and enthusiasm in your videos is just brilliant. Your manner and personality infectious. I'm old now (seasoned) but your inspirational talk is great for the people out there. I used to teach and I know a great coach when i hear one. You're giving something good out there. Keep it up sir!
The best boxing coach I will ever have. Educational and motivational. Thank you.

I've always enjoyed your tutorials for the nuts and bolts of the science. In this video you reveal who you are, your journey. Honest, insightful and hopeful. Cheers for uploading.

inspirational! Great words about how you carry yourself. When you carry yourself confidently, people not only don't mess with you, they may respect you.
Much respect from Saudi Arabia.
Great mentor, truly inspirational .
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for the inspiration. Your videos really push me to strive for greatness no matter how discouraged or beaten up I get.
awesome video! this one definitely speaks to me in a lot of ways. I really want to progress not only in boxing and other martial arts, but in life as well. thank you for posting this video. I'm sure it would help others that also go through or are currently going through these sorts of things.
Inspirational! As an 'Older Guy' who is just now taking up boxing for fun / workout and self defense I find your videos very helpful. Thank you for sharing, JT!
Amazing story JT.Always wondered how you grew up,and how you got into boxing.Thanks.
Great! Very motivational, thank you and wish you all the best on your way!
Most inspirational video I've watched. I've been trying to get into boxing for years but my mom won't let me and ever since my dad left she's cut me off. I really want to learn and train and face the fears just as you said. I fear the humiliation of losing and letting myself down more than physical pain. I really wish I could get more involved with the sport
Every video you release is amazing, you are a true inspiration to boxing and a top guy.
I learned a life lesson from you I this video.thank you, and never stop inspiring the viewers

Great story JT! Greets from Holland. We have a similar story with Krav Maga, doubts, mindset, absolute heights and deepest of throughs. Made friends for life and lost them as well. Like your movies too. Keep them coming!
Much respect, and thank you for the videos,i have put some of youre tutorials into practice and have seen the improvements in my training. Thanks JTVV blessings!
Inspiring JT! Great Testimony! I learn very much from your RUclips channel! I plan to go pro after the Golden Gloves.
I hear what you say TJ about wanting to quit. Yet the fear of failure is worse than getting beat up.
It takes many coaches, years of training, hard fights to improve your skills. The most difficult is to have perseverance when you’re getting defeated 😕 by more skillful and experienced fighters!
An inspiring piece coach. Nicely done. You took the time to give me some advice 2 years ago for my first fight i was training for, it was a charity event. These golden nuggets of wisdon that are handed out by trainers like yourself on a platform accessible by all are invaluable for amateurs and professionals alike learning their trade. Always enjoy learning from your uploads. Thank you
+Rachael Hayward thank you, congrats on all your hard work
great video mate, I can relate to the feeling of almost giving up after suffering concussion after a heavy sparring session, but I'm glad I didn't and I learnt a lot from it. cheers jt,
Thank you for the video. Inspiring. I punch a heavy bag a few times a week. Really helped me with stress and confidence. I learned alot from your videos. Thanks.
I had been watching your videos for over a year, training bits and pieces to supplement my Krav Maga, which really hadn't given me what I needed in terms of head movement or power generation. I learned to wrap my hands from your video on that topic. I decided I needed to go to the local boxing gym and start hitting a heavy bag. Combat gyms all smell of stinky boxing glove; an amplified version of the locker room stench that people who were un-athletic as kids associate with dread. Knowing some basics about footwork, working a heavy bag and how to wrap my hands from your videos gave me the confidence to start working in there by myself. One coach later remarked that I had 'near-perfect' technique, whilst another, really old school guy who had made remarks about my lack of extension and hand speed (so he knew his stuff), mentioned there were 'several really good coaches on the Internet nowadays.' When I asked him who, his reply was: 'Well, there's that Jason van wassiname guy'...
haha thanks Andrew that makes my day to hear that.
thats inspiration right there! brilliant video
Self doubt is our biggest opponent! Great piece
Great video, just watched your video on boxing and self defense as well. You're doing great work sharing not only techniques and training methods but your experiences and knowedge as well. Peace :)
Great video man. Love your stuff
awesome video ... Well done JVV!
Great video. I've been a subscriber to your channel for a few years now and, even as an experienced amateur fighter lucky enough to have trained under some world class coaches over the last 15 years, I still find a lot of value in your videos. You have a great grasp of the fundamentals of boxing and a knack of explaining things in an easy to process way. Keep up the good work!
thx a lot, it really means something coming from someone with your background
Amazing video JT!

Awesome video !
Great video! keep it up
You are my mentor.
Boxing is a beautiful art, mentally, physically and spiritually. Your workout vids have helped me a lot especially the "Killer Heavy Bag Workout". Hope to be fighting in November 2016 for the first time as part of a charity event. Keep the vids coming, you are a great teacher of the art.
really appreciate it
Brilliant!
You da man JT!
I have always wanted to take up boxing but there were no gyms near my house. You helped me get into boxing JT and in a way, you have changed my life. Thank you
truly appreciate hearing that
Nice presentation.
very good video, thanks.
I am 57 years old and I have gone to a boxing session weekly for the last year. This is one of the best hours of my week. My coach does not call me by name. Josh Canty ( my coach ) calls me "57" when he speaks to me. I work with free weights and body weight excercises three times a week. I am twice as old as the other members of this club. I have been watching your videos for the past year to strengthen my commitment to this combat sport. I have learned a variety of methods to facilitate my learning curve from your tutorials. Thank you. I have improved my confidence and have accessed a personal self respect For my efforts to commit to this sport. I am to old to fight, but I would like to believe I could. When I say fight, I actually mean "to compete". I wish I had not waited this long. I am basically a person who will open doors for people and take a step back from confrontation, to the point of being intimidated. Not now. That does not mean I am now a bully, or that I would rather throw a punch without first attempting to descilate a situation, it means I have a confidence that I will not wilt from an altercation. It does not mean I believe that I am "all powerful" and cocky, it means that should you knock me down, I will embrace the situation and get up, not to run, but to meet you with a combination that you will not see coming. You will know I am in the house. Thank you.
great mindset, no doubt they're gonna know you're in the house!
Nice video and nice speech, Im a box trainer in one small school in Czech republic i had old school trainer (Josef Kapín, Olympic in Mexico) and you remind me of him. A lot of empathy, a lot of experience .. yes you are inspiration
thank you truly Martin
beautiful video I've always loved boxing and had a true passion for it loved the art of fisticuffs but it's like people consider us monsters for that
Great Video! I started boxing 1 year ago because of a break up. It really helped me get over it and rebuild my confidence. I was going to quit as well when i got my ass beat at the first couple of sparring sessions, and then back then i watched your video when you mentioned your experience in the 1st sparring sessions and that keep me going. I've being watching your videos for 1 year now. Thank you you are the best online boxing coach and you have the best online boxing channel. I've learned a lot of things from you that my boxing coach never told me.
that's wicked my man!
+JT Van V im 47kg 15 year old n have won 5 lost 2 n im southpaw n have u got any tips onn trying to carry on wen ur tired and keep throwing punches thx
