@@USCFlash And I answer again - NO, I WAS NOT HEARBROKEN BY ANY OF THOSE LOSSES*. It's a freaking sport. My life is far too full and rich to be heartbroken by a loss by my favorite team, but I was heartbroken for Don Mattingly, one of the only two players I ever stopped what I was doing to watch an at-bat because I admired their skill. The other was The Mick, and I only saw him play his last three years when he was a shadow of the great player he was, but I still couldn't take my eyes off him. Same with Donny Baseball.. But *Donny* so wanted to win a championship that that loss to the Mariners to end his career was the only one that hurt, and I hurt for Donny, not so much for me. I hope that clears this up.
*How can you be heartbroken by the '01 loss particularly. They had just won three in a row. When the Dbacks won that with the walk off dunker, my wife and I just looked at each other and shrugged and said "good for them". We don't have to win every year...

It's a complete joke that Don isn't in the Hall of Fame. I was born in 79 and am from Cincinnati so I was always rooted for Reds. And also always rooted for the NL in world series (even Braves who I hated). So I'm not biased towards Mattingly. Even after his back was hurt he continued to win Gold Gloves.
Also Dale Murphy, consecutive MVPs? Are you kidding me, no one does that! It's just cuz Yankees and Braves sucked in the 80s

Donnie Baseball was my favorite player. Tried to pattern my swing off his when I was in HS. Just so smooth and quick hands through the zone. He was one of few players who were close to DiMaggio in terms of K's vs. HR's. Joe was practically 1:1 and Donnie was about 1.5:1.
Actually, the Yankees didn't suck in the '80's. Overall, they had the most wins of any team that decade but it was the only decade they didn't win a pennant. The last couple years were quite bad along with the first few years of the '90's and the Winfield - Steinbrenner scandal definitely made it worse.

Ted Williams always preached to keep your hands back and wait on the pitch so you don't get fooled. Then to be very quick with the bat.
Mattingly did that. He had one heck of a quick swing, almost hitting it out of the catcher's hands sometimes. And still pulling it to right field with power.

He wasn't the same player after the back injury so I don't think he would have made the Hall. Playing longer would have only hurt his career numbers. If a third baseman’s leftie, he wouldn’t have to throw across their body when throwing at first, second, or home.
Yes, foot work would play a huge factor but it gives a huge advantage in covering the line because they catch with their right hand and playing a few more feet away from the bag will help them close the gaps and NOT do that exaggerate shift that they do which winds up living huge holes in one side of the infield.
A righty as a third baseman would have to play close to the line because they would have to catch the ball across their body if they don’t.
Baseball is simple man and because we live in a world that is ran by the devil, we do things the opposite way of what they should be.
1st baseman should be righty and the third baseman should be leftie… you would have to be extremely skilled and special to be a leftie as a first baseman and righty as a third baseman to make it work flawlessly.
Left field side of baseball should be lefties and right field of baseball should be righty, that means both, infielders and outfielders.
Center field can be both, leftie and righty… shortstop, in my opinion, should be leftie due to the fact that most hitters are righty and their hits on the left side of the field.
Second baseman can be both, but I prefer a righty to help turn double plays faster when they throw at the short stop covering second and if the shortstop is leftie, the bang bang play will be smother!
