- On the floor the people dance around
Moving close together
But there all alone in the corner
There's the girl I once knew
Who broke me in two.
So won't you please play a songa sentimental song
For my sentimental friend over there.
We've been so long apart make it go right to the heart
Of my sentimental friend over there.
Bring the tears to her eyes help to make her realize
The love we had was just beyond compare.
Then if the time is right ,maybe I'll hold her tight
My sentimental friend over there.
I recall the way she used to feel
When we heard a sad song
The teardrops would fall and she'd hold me
And tell me, she'd be for ever with me.
So won't you please play a song, a sentimental song
For my sentimental friend over there.
We've been so long apart, make it go right to the heart
Of my sentimental friend over there.
Bring the tears to her eyes, help to make her realize
The love we had was just beyond compare.
Then if the time is right, maybe I'll hold her tight
My sentimental friend over there.
Oh won't you please play a song, a sentimental song
For my sentimental friend over there.
We've been so long apart
Make it go right to the heart
Of my sentimental friend over there.
Bring the tears to her eyes, help to make her realize
The love we had was just beyond compare.
And then if the time is right, maybe I'll hold her tight
My sentimental friend over there.
So won't you please play a song, a sentimental song
For my sentimental friend over there...

This song was among the first top ten in the chart in the year 1968 or 1969. In that period I was in Berwick upon Tweed. My name is Piero from Tuscany Italy. I still love a lot ❤ this song this morning 17 May 2023 ciao🎼🎶❤️🇮🇹
This song is one of my favorite. I am millennial generation and live in east part of this world. Sometimes when I remember my father, I search all of the songs I can remember during my childhood time.

GOD BLESS YOUR MOM
I was born in the late fall of 1978. I Love the Beautiful, Classic, Iconic Song, My Sentimental Friend! I Love Herman's Hermits! A Legendry Musical Group!
1969 was one of the very best if not the best year for mainstream music, and this song is one of the best.
My Gran passed away 2 days ago. This was her favourite song 😥

This song hits you somewhere deep in your soul and evokes memories of a past life. Our lives were enriched by the writer of this song and the brilliant way it was sung by hermans hermits.
Almost 60years has gone by. But this song is still nice to enjoy. Saluut Herman.
Love it was on juke box,at college and played back to back by me. Drove people nuts. When they took it off the juke box I was given it. Boy did I cry. Best gift ever.
Brilliant song, timeless. Memories from schooldays. His best song I think.
High school memories for me to❤
When music was music, so glad not to have missed this. Born in 1958, lived through the best of times. No regrets but sad in the in the current life happenings. This song and many more oldies brings a tear and a smile at the same time.
if you've loved, and lost, you"ll know EXACTLY what he's singing about. A brilliant song........
So true
In 1969, my 7mos.old niece was crying everytime I sing this song to her. So cute with her tears falling on her cheeks. My mom used to get mad at me...
So I was 15 when this came out. Don't know what brought me here tonight but amazed still being listened to from the comments. Takes me right back to that time lovely song
Same age as me
Me too ♥️
Back in the era when music was sung by gifted singers and musicians.
There was always a message in in, just for you.
I’ve seen Peter sing this many times in person…and still can’t get enough of it….such a beautiful song….times were so much simpler then…❤️

We lived history with songs like this
This song is bittersweet for me. Mt high school sweetheart and I used to listen to it together and it would always bring a tear to her eye. Then I was called up for 12 months of duty, and when I returned, she'd found another. Even today, this song reminds me of her and the tears that this song would evoke.
just got transported back to 1969, and im 8 years old again, and away from the cares and troubles of adult life
ahh
And you can hear all the words too
One of the best songs I have ever heard and he is gorgeous
Takes me back to my childhood in the sixties.
as a person that rarely sings, this one made me want to sing all the time
Haven't heard this song since 13 years old
Made me damn near cry 😢
Makes me cry
What a great song loved this
How can I still remember all the words of this song from 1969 when I havent heard it for so many years. Just lovely and so many memories. Found it again on Sky Arts channel
I wasn't even born but I've always loved this song ❤
This brings back so many memories ❤
My mom used to have this song on a Mixed Tape. When I moved from home, I snuck it out. And still own it. Sadly enough, it has suffered much and the song is barely recongizable anymore. So, thank you very much for a whole lot of childhood memories and a heartbreakingly beautiful song.
Without doubt their best song.
It is a nice song, but I would say NO MILK TODAY is their best song. And SOMETHING IS HAPPENING etc.
@@vinyl007verdade

Música maravilhosa dos anos 60, que ouvi em toda a minha adolescência e juventude nos anos 70. Foi um privilégio pra mim. Gratidão eterna.
I love the simplicity of this song, so easy to sing along to.
Oh I was so in love with him when I was a girl. He's so cute and got the cutest voice ever. Still love you Peter ♥️♥️♥️
Saudades dessa época
This Song was once of my favorite songs of Herman's Hermits.
I liked Herman's Hermits at the zenith in the 60s but it took a documentary on Sky Art to hear this tremendous song for the first time. I was blown away and I can't stop listening to it
George, you are so right same here. Listening in Durban South Africa on a beautiful sunny morning. Go well my bro.
Beautiful song so simple love the way this guy sings it, heartfelt
My friend forwarded this song to me..now then I understand she is so sentimental regarding our friendship ❤

Passei minha adolescência ouvido essa linda música foram tempos bem felizes.
One of the best songs ever.
I was 7 when this came on the radio and it hit me like a brick. Perhaps odd for a 7 year old to have felt it so strongly.
Love this song very much by Herman s Hermits
Lovely song
LOVE THIS OLD SONG
Love this song with Peter look for Hermans Hermits 92 without Peter singing this here on RUclips they sound great and MAKE the song so different it at the same time so alike.
"I recall the way she used to feel when we heard a sad song...." that line is just killing me 😪😥
my favorite song when I was a kid. I wasn't sure about the lyrics- as English wasn't my language- but from the melody a 6 years old will guess that its a sad song.....Its a wonderful time with a beautiful song. Thank you

Amazing,I remembered whem I whas too young!
this song is way before my time and I first heard it in 2001 in a tape recording cassette in university and fell in love with it.
Great.
My everlasting song that's brought me back to the good old days...
Lovely song.I like me.Thank for posting.
Gosh they have some great songs
This was played at my first party i went to my secret crush was there i was 13 years old lol
I attended a Herman's Hermits concert in the early 2000's and waited in line for Peter to sign many of his albums I owned. I asked him why he doesn't perform "My Sentimental Friend" as part of his concert. He said, it wasn't a hit in America, no one would want to hear it". I beg to differ! Such a beautiful song.
Me too!
I was introduced to Herman's Hermits through this song. It was the Sports Day at my school in 1986 (I was 12) when the teacher-in-charge played this song through a mini compo. When I asked him if this is an oldie, he quickly gave the tapes for me to bring it home for my listening pleasure. 😊
High school memories and love lost ..LS
Deserves a trillion likes ❤
A música faz mesmo a gente voltar no tempo! 1968, me lembro como se fosse ontem! Linda !
