If you could land on the toe all of your backfoot when doing split jerk, that would be alot better. As landing Airways like that with a flat foot can be rough on the inside of your knee over time. Especially with heavy weights and if u fail the lift

      The same …
All other strongmen have log lifted and pressed using pure shoulder power
      Big Z
      Eddie hall
      Thor
      Etc etc ….
They showed that there shoulders (without split jerking) are brute impressive power and strength , using there shoulder power alone …. It sort of (in the kindest way no offense intended) sorts the men from the boys …… They should have 2 sets of lifts with the log and axle.
Press shoulder power only with an exception of a dip with the legs .
Press shoulder power with split jerking .
Just like the deadlift really .
      Normal deadlift
      Sumo deadlift .
No one would ever except a 500kg deadlift if it was sumo 💯 they would argue the toss that it’s not a pure brute power lift , but an actual lift adapting it to make it easier and in a sense go up ,but in reality if you brought your legs together it wouldn’t actually be raised high enough . Same thing with split jerking , without that jerk that lift isn’t going up , it’s saving your lift from not going up and I don’t think you would lift that weight without it ……
Your impressive in all aspects buddy very impressive , someone who’s not as big but hugely strong insanely strong and have grown massively on me but I’d love to see you attempt 170-200kg no split jerking only then would I have absolutely nothing negative to say …….
Challenge for ya if you’d except ? Although I doubt you would ….. 😁👍

It’s a test of shoulder strength and upper body power That’s why I loved Eddie it was raw shoulder strength when he did his axle wr. I think leg drive should be minimal . I would love to see a max strict press event

I’d love to see him do 170-200 without the jerk as I think he’s not doing it personally in the nicest possible way as I like hooper but yeah all others are pure shoulder power . There’s the deadlift and the sumo deadlift and there’s press and split jerk press which lets face it separates the men from the boys .

Also, never again for squat suits/briefs (Arnold) and preferably no more deadlift suits but that ship has sailed as it's all about the 500+kg now.

If your split jerk isn’t perfect, and your torso has any kind of forward movement during the split portion, the log we certainly be pushed even further away from your center of gravity, unlike a barbell/axle, where you can keep it over the center of gravity through the whole motion

If the goal is to exemplify body strength, then no, the split jerking should not be allowed. If the goal is just to put as much weight as possible, then yes. The split jerking to me, takes away from the strength and puts the more of the emphasis on technique. It's amazing how many "smaller" lifters can split jerk a very large amount of weight, but not come close to push pressing it.

It still takes strength to jerk the weight, its just not the shoulder and triceps strength.

Rob Kearney split jerks the log, but he's like a foot shorter than you. Maybe it makes a difference. 😂

No everyone should have to lift the same way there are records in every lift therefore all lifts need to be the same

Mr. Moose, I've been following the sport of strongman for a great many years. The way it works is this: You move a weight from A to B no matter how (as long as it is in the rules) and provided the referee gives you the down signal or doesn't disqualify you in any way, and you're good to go :) It's not uncommon to get awarded reps for soft lock-outs on the deadlift or log/dumbbell press, which I personally can't stand. If I were a referee, I'd make the competitors hold the object overhead for at least a brief period, until it's clear the weight is controlled up here. No extra points are awarded if the competitor happens to use any fancy ways.
I also hope that stupid fight doesn't happen. What nonsense is that all about? Be careful out there.

Course split jerk should because some don't have the leg drive like Stoltmans, Hicks, Biby. Then jerk is required. tbh, it works for athletes like Pavlo Kordiyaka, who isn't best at deadlift, but he makes up for it being an incredible presser

You really think Stoltman, Hicks, and Biby don't have leg drive 😂? All of those men can squat 700 lbs for reps

Bobby made a good point about this iirc where people complaining about technical choice are likely lacking foundational strength anyways

It’s strongman so it’s point a to b by any means, same as how deadlift goes. So that means it should be fair game 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @frankb5728

maaaybe? I think it's common for competitors to try and game the rules a little but after a while the org will change the rules or drop the event. There's a reason the overhead press is no longer a weightlifting event. Strongman still presses like that though, so who knows, sometimes they like the allure of a higher number over the purity of the exercise.

Out of curiosity, how come you don't use clips on the log with the big bounce once you drop it? I know it's training, but you wouldn't have to keep putting the plates back on.

I've been watching a lot of their training and I feel thor is gonna do good, but it's his first comp after a very long hiatus.
Plus the axel press is gonna be very difficult for him.
Moose and trex have done a lot of comps last year and look to be in great shape.
