  • Sit back and relax with the joy that is the Bodmin & Wenford Railway. Website: - www.bodminrailway.co.uk/
0298 class Beattie Well tanks 30585 and 30587 were designed in the 1860s and built in 1874. They worked the Wenford branch from Wadebridge through Boscarne Junction from 1896 to 1962. Both are seen arriving at Boscarne Junction, running round and departing. They can be heard hammering up the bank en route to Bodmin General.
30587 works hard up from Bodmin Parkway with a two coach train.
The elegant T9 class known as greyhounds, worked important mainline LSWR expresses until relegated to secondary lines like the North Cornwall. National Railway Museum T9, No. 30120 is seen at Boscarne Junction, running round and departing for the long climb to Bodmin General, then with some on board shots and with GWR 0-6-0PT 6435 banking, until arriving at Bodmin General.
T9 30120 leaking steam and working hard, with 6435 banking at the rear, is seen climbing up and away from Bodmin Parkway towards Coleslogget Halt.
30587 and 30120 are seen at Boscarne Junction together.
B & W on parade - a sequence of clips; with diminutive Bagnall 0-4-0 shunting engine'Judy' from the Port of Par railway, 30587, GWR Pannier Tank engine 0-6-0 PT 6435, GWR Small Prairie 2-6-2T No. 5552, GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tank 4612 in GWR green livery, (seen later in BR black livery and numbered 4666 - a local engine) then the bulk of GWR heavy goods 4200 class 2-8-0T 4247 in GWR Green. Seen in the next sequence in BR Black climbing from Bodmin Parkway unassisted and with an on board shot.
0-6-0PT 4612 couples up to a train at Bodmin General as 30585 shunts as station pilot.
Finally 4666 is seen descending the bank to Bodmin Parkway, then returning to Bodmin General and is the fireman Jimmy James looking out?
Filmed between 2010 and 2014. Some clips were taken on DV, not HDV tape. I hope you enjoy it.
    Nick.

Those Beatties are the sweetest little pups! Hats off to all who have kept them and other beautiful British steam alive, and thanks for sharing these fine views of a wonderful operation.

Kurt you are very welcome. One of the drivers on the Bodmin and Wenford, I have subsequently met, was a fireman at Wadbridge and fired the Beaties and T9s. Thank you for your comment. Nick.

Thoroughly enjoyed your film, as I did reading your highly informative write-up. This is undeniably an ideal location for a preserved railway and a place where both the staff and volunteers obviously gain immense pleasure performing their many and varied roles. I never cease to be amazed by the near pristine presentation of the motive power and rolling stock on this line, let alone the general smartness of the entire railway complex. That aspect alone, serves to illustrate the pride the staff hold for their respective areas of responsibility. It was good to see so much steam action but a little disappointing to witness the immaculately turned-out T9 leaking steam so badly. Thank you for sharing you experience.

I agree with your comments. It is a lovely railway. (I was lucky enough to have a footplate ride on the T9 subsequently but I didn't have my cameras with me that afternoon). The T9 continued to leak steam even after its transfer to the Swanage Railway for a while I think.
