Paradise Lost is truly one of the greatest metal bands of all times. Just a bunch of blokes from Yorkshire who created a whole new genre, no lineup changes (apart from drummers) for almost 35 years, no scandals, drama or drug abuse. Never sold out, and actually took the risk of alienating their fanbase several times by exploring completely new directions. Consistently putting out new material, and playing impeccable live shows, and staying humble all the while.

Agreed on most parts but live they are lacking. Saw them couple of time in last 25 years and it was meh at best. They just dont have the energy.

Greg Mackintosh is definitely one of the most underrated guitarists in metal. Sure, he may not play some crazy fast-shredding solos with 100 notes per second, but his guitar playing is just magic from a different world. This is what I call a true guitar genius. I don't care about people who play super fast, but soulless and shity melodies.

The truth is, it is not how fast you are, it is the way play it and yes i would agree he is a good guitarist.
Also Nick Holmes is a good vocalist, in his own right.
He definitely has his style and a very unique sound signature.
He is an amazing guitar player and also a genius composer of melodies...his melodies can send you to those places that some people don't like to go.

I remember the summer of 91. We were on a school trip to Berlin. The Wall had almost completely come down. While all the other kids went off to the Techno Clubs , I was digging through crates with Metal Vinyl and stumbled upon the gem that "Gothic" was. "Shattered" "Gothic" and "The Painless" absolutely blew me away. I had never heard stuff like this before. I couldn't wait to get back home and listen to this album again and again and again. I followed their career all these years, even though after "Icon" they lost me a bit. Now , even though, I only know 3 songs of the new album at the moment, I get this special PL feeling again. Thank you

Haha Amen! I love the dichotomy between light and dark, clean vocals during the mellow part and growls during the aggressive one. Kind of like the internal battle between good and evil, for lack of a better comparison. That's how I've interpreted this song for myself. Can't stop listening to it

Historically, there are few bands in the whole earth that they never fail its audience like 10+ albums and 30+ years. Paradise Lost is captain of them.

This is a masterpiece of a song. 30+ years and they are still producing music of this quality. Can't wait to see them live again this weekend.
A lot of fans and music critics don't appreciate the "Host and Believe in Nothing" era but this album has a lot to do with them, the beginning of this song can perfectly fit in the Host album while the bass feels like it was taking out off the BIN album. The whole Obsidian album has a lot to do with (Draconian Times, Host, BIN, PL 2005, etc). This album is amazing and even if you don't understand the transition of the band throughout that mentioned ERA the end result is this.
Agreed, it's like all my favorite PL albums resulted in one, I can see elements from each past album here! And it's very well done, Obsidian is already in my top 3. A truly masterpiece.
I listened to PL alot in the early 90’s. Ever since I Saw “As I Die” on MTV. I was one of those that stopped listening (still supporting though) when Host came out, and the concerts wasnt really the same, being a sucker for Dark, doom and death, I kind of moved on. After the plague within was released, i was hooked back on them. The shows are more awesome than ever
I thought of that era while listening 'Hope Dies Young', just to say an example. I love each and every one of the styles that Paradise Lost has brought to our ears. This track is a fucking masterpiece!

The new album is well crafted . A combination of harmonies mixed with melancholy / doom / despair and elegance. They have mixed their early works with the recent ones . Instant hit to the nerves . Well done guys \m/

Some of their albums are, of course, better than others, but PL never disappointed. I love Host and Draconian Times but different loves. Can listen to them in silence or in transport, when i'm happy or sad. This is the best band. Greetings from Russia.

Many people think when you mention metal of any genre they quickly stamp it out, my obsession is with death metal, but for years I've been lost with paradise lost, the calming affect they put over me is like when you lose a loved one and miss them so much you hear this, and it makes you close your eyes and float away and at that moment you are truly comfortable with death, and life...this is paradise lost.

for me as a singer, is one of my two geat inspirations, in all his years and in all the stules from PL. He have a wonderful, sweet, agresive, clean, growl and precious voice, is a very big pitty that he be so underrated, but for all of us that know about he, we know that is one of the best singers, and PL for me one of the greastest bands :)
He fits death doom way better than bloodbath. I think he has a doom metal voice more than DM.

Maybe it's because "sadness" is mistaken with "depression", but "I wanna die" is still a recurring sentence from people who actually _don't_ wanna die. For sure, depression itself is not cool, considering it completely ruined my life. But that doesn't mean that many people fake it just to get some more likes.
Now, instead of accusing me of not being depressed, please consider that 1) some depressed people *do* joke about depression and 2) I was being totally serious, this time. You don't even have any idea of how much amitriptyline ('cos sertraline is like water for me) my body takes every day, and yet you're just assuming stuff by generalizing. I really appreciate the fact that you see it as a disorder and not a simple "have a walk", but I may also suggest you to both learn boolean logic and think before speaking, 'cause you know, the human brain isn't a predictable LTI system.
@@Speed4Runs medication is probably unhealthy and would keep you depressed forever, but ups i am not a doctor so nevermind what i just wrote, they kill my grandma the other day with some fluoxetine they gave her, but they can write down something else killed her and thats what they did... try something like the carnivore diet, who knows, it may help
What a freaking masterpiece
They never cease to amaze me. When I think that I have already heard everything from them, they surprise with something new again. Amazing vocals with the accompaniment of guitars, as well as an indisputable atmosphere, which many bands are missing. I can't count how many songs have those guys delievered and how many are repeated on my headphones. Thank You, PL. Can't wait to see You again.

I must confess: I m not a huge fan of the band but I became a metal head not because of Metallica etc, I heard a local record store in İstanbul playing their song ICON, it was very catchy then I went inside n ask for their cassette. Definitely the most unique album opener they've ever written. I get the slightest hint of country vibes in the intro and Nick's vocals have never sounded more gentle. And I love it when Greg rips out into solos like that.

I just came across this album on the google play store. I don't seek out or purchase new music often. This is my first time hearing paradise lost. I'm purchasing the album and going to go for a drive, listening to it loud. I'm a new fan.
The new Paradise Lost album is like a journey through time. One that spans from the beginnings of Paradise Lost to their present.
This is easily one of the best songs they've ever written, it just keeps building and building until a slow final climax
