I'm absolutely loving all these ring puns and classic media! 🤣💍👍

Excellent videos! How come these don't have a million views?!

Because most people don't care about what's really important? :q

@@bonbonpony very well said ....most people sort of take pride on being a layman as far as pure mathematics is concerned .........

Any casual passer by would be completely lost. If you've taken requisite algebra, set theory, logic, number theory, linear algebra, abstract Algebra I, then these videos are great.

I'd love for these videos, or at least the parts with the puns and references to other media like The Ring movie, to randomly wind up as memes or in some kind of playlist or compilation and make this channel blow up 😆

Yeah the jokes alone would be worth it! By the way, what degree were you studying for, and how did it go?

"Al for the low price of I" is this analogous to like a free group or free module or something free?

11:29 A better way to draw the norm would be with a colored circle (and a black or grey circle representing the unit-length elements). You can then draw the moduli as colored arcs. It will be visually obvious how the moduli add if you use the same two colors together on the outermost norm circle to show how the final modulus is obtained. (laying the arcs next to each other will visually look like adding)

3:10 I think scientists use ℝ because it's the only option they know. It would be hard to argue that they "love" it since most haven't studied enough math to know what alternatives there are.
Relatedly, in the Wikipedia article on John Philoponus (John the Grammarian) --- or maybe it's the article on Clifford Truesdell / rational hydrodynamics --- there was an ~8th century critique of Euclid arguing that "two lines intersect in a point" needs to be assumed; it isn't true of necessity. (prefiguring the idea that two rational lines or other types of lines might pass over each other)

Holly fuck man, I finally get it. After three fucking days of trying to figure this out. THANK YOU!

Yeah, these videos are great! By the way, were you taking an abstract algebra class, and if so, how'd the rest of it go?

OK, we've got the norm, but what about the trace? It can be useful too.

why are they call Rings ? I know their properties but I cant see why these objects get this names and while being in this topic the other types of Rings. integral Domain, and Fields?

Apparently it comes from an old German word meaning association.

Dr. Salomone, you are fantastic. In exchange of your contribution to the world of mathematics and your favor to educate me, I would like to encourage you to study about the concept of God in Islam. I wish you paradise and if Islam is correct that is the only way to achieve it. Thank you
