- Episode 11 of solo backpacking the Philippines, I return to Moalboal in Cebu in order to make a 2nd attempt at completing my PADI Freediver qualification.
Whilst I was back in Cebu, I also managed to do a bit more exploring, heading to Cangcalanog Falls and hiking Casino Peak (aka Lugsangan peak) at sunset.

@Christianne...You've just trekked and enjoyed the surreal Badian mountain range that hosts some of Cebu's prominent and highest peaks such as Osmeña Peak, Kandungaw Peak and this Peak, Casino Peak. Osmeña Peak is the most popular of all three prominent peaks because it is the most accessible from Mantalongon area. Indeed, it is more beautiful and more breathtaking scenery than Chocolate Hills. Chocolate Hills is soooooo boring, which is just for sightseeing. In Badian range, you don't only get a magnificent view of the out-of-this-world scenery but also experience nature at its best as you trek to any of those jagged peaks that stretch for as far as your eyes can see. You are literally on the roof of Cebu island getting that 360-degree view all around and beyond.
What a great way to wake up...I had my Sunday morning coffee with this awesome video to watch! Congrats on the cert and what great views you shared! Once again, I'm wanting to see more!

I was the same for my Freediving. Had no problem dynamic but my sinuses stopped me and I couldn't reach the 10m :( Can't wait to try again!

Hey christianne ! That's cool you passed I did my padi freediving qualification a month ago with freediving planet I had yahia's wife as my instructor sadly I didnt complete the skills as well cuz I felt ill.I planned to go back but didnt have time in the end ! Lol planning to go next year and those mountains are one of the places I didnt have time to go to.

Backpacking Bananas That mountain range, called Badian range, is actually the location of Osmeña Peak, Cebu's most popular and highest peak. It's just that this Peak, the Lugsangan Peak, happens to be less popular to tourists but actually offers the best view of the famous jagged Badia mountain range, based on your video. Now, I want to do the same next time because we always went to Osmeña Peak on our last two visits.

That's EXACTLY how I feel whenever I travel solo. I say out loud "WHAT? Holy SHI@!$T. Wow! This is freaking amaaaazing!" To be able to discover a new destination, a rush of adrenaline/dopamine...even by yourself (you use more of your sense when you are alone I think). If only EVERYONE had a chance to travel solo, you realize how happy you can be. Thank you for sharing your moment! Aloha.

I am so lost…I understand scuba qualifications, but free diving is something we just do…started on beach holidays more than 50 years ago and have done it all over the world without a thought. Is this a necessary qualification for any dive sites? I really am perplexed at this. Not trying to troll but probably going to seem like it. I just feel it’s a money grab by Padi for something you could learn in a weekend diving with friends and getting a “skin diving” (ok I am old and that’s what we called it] book out of the local library to understand pressure, equalization, how to dive, and why you don’t hyperventilate.
Love following you! I'm visiting Cebu end of May (from Los Angeles). Do you know if the roads to Cangcalanog Falls and Casino Peak (aka Lugsangan peak) are accessible by car? We're planning to rent a car.

@@BackpackingBananas : Thank you for the kind words. Yes, crime rate in PH has decreased significantly by 50% 2017 vs. 2016 and another 20% 2018 vs. 2017. PH safety rate is rated as the same as South Korea. The past image in PH was not so good during those turbulent years in 80s and 90s.

It is not Osmena, it is Casino Peak 😊 hike was only 20mins. Aussie guy was not our guide, just out friend 😊 we found the mountain as a team
