Hi y’all! Judd and I are a bit busy today, so I may not be able to reply to comments. Here is some extra info on today’s vlog:
We are doing okay! We honestly are well stocked on supplies, but are still on the lookout for extra essentials if we are able to find them. Can never have enough! We also have a few tricks for water (filling large bins/cleaning and bleaching trashcans to fill and boiling water, etc).
Har is going back on the kibble she ate before starting a raw diet: Taste of the Wild Salmon Formula. The dogs are also accommodated in regards to supplies.
Why do I live in FL with the heat? Our life is here, our family is here, my in state tuition is here, and Judd’s career is here.
Why am I not staying with my parents? Well, my mom is going with my dad to care for him (he is a stroke survivor). Caring for him and me during a hurricane is too much to ask of her. (Remember, Judd most likely will not be with us, he will most likely be working.) My dad has close family friends he wants to be with, and Paul/Janiece’s house cannot accommodate all those people. We need to allocate ourselves accordingly with supplies, and that is what we are doing. My mom and dad are going with close family friends, and myself with PJ. They know how to help me out medically as well should we need it. We all thought things out thoroughly and decided this was the best action plan for everyone.
Edited to add: I'll be vlogging as usual, but if the power goes out, that's an issue lol.
Stay safe! Stay up to date! There is new info on Irma with each update. Do not forget my vlogs are uploaded a day late, so do not depend on them for accurate info. I pray that this goes as well as it can. Much love to you all!

Chronically Jaquie I was reading that you can fill empty (and clean) bottles of all sorts with tap water (if it's ok to drink) as well as filling Tupperware with water and freezing it to have for the pups and cleaning water as well as filling the bathtub to the brim with water for toilet flushing and cleaning. Toilet paper and Kleenex are staples too

I am so nervous for you guys. All of the people in Florida as well. Please be safe. Living in eastern Canada I have never experienced a hurricane or any extreme weather really. I would be absolutely terrified! Maybe it will swing around and head out into the atlantic. I pray God will keep you and yours safe. i totally agree with you about supplies Jacquie. It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. My thoughts and prayers are with you on this coming adventure. Be safe, love to all.

Where I am in Canada, the worst natural disaster I've experienced was a 2 second small earthquake. 2nd worse would be having thunder and lightning storms like 1-3 times a year. Really thankful that I don't have to go through anything major and don't want to take anything for granted.
I wish the best of luck to those who have to go through with it and that everyone will remain safe

I have been feeding raw for over 8 years. I also work at a holistic vet. We always recommend to have some freeze dried raw food on hand just in case.
There is no issues with tummy upset switching.
There is a number of different brands, it's light, it last for years. It is pricy but we only use it for travel or emergency situations.
Here is a couple of brands I trust I have fed in the past that you can get in your state, but I am sure there are others.

Raw and kibble digest differently so it's not good for dogs stomachs.

    • @tzuamourshihtzu9871
      @tzuamourshihtzu9871 6 лет назад +3

frances D yea it’s really not good to mix the two and dogs actually transition easier if it’s done like a straight swap, of corse when feeding a commercial pet food and changing brands without transitioning slowly can give the dog an upset stomach but that’s because digesting that food is so taxing on their bodies raw food isn’t. I’ve fed raw to my 3 for years now and it’s always so great to see other owners doing the same. 👍

Next dog in we're going try the raw food route. Our current dog (Small Beagle-mix. Mommy was a mutt apparantly. But she just looks like a young Beagle pup. A perfect example of a Beagle, but smaller) is allergic to pretty much almost anything. Cost us nearly 4 years to find food her body can handle! We found Canagan Senior kibbles with chicken taste. Only thing she will eat AND can handle! It's like she knows when we give her the food that her body cannot handle it, because food she is allergic to she will refuse to eat. Sadly she cannot even handle rice and fish. It has given us a lot of heartache, but she is well worth it! But she is getting old, and we are getting to the point that we feek blessed with every day we get. With all her allergy problems she has made it to 14.5 years already and not showing any signs of slowing down, the only thing you can notice her age is the amount she sleeps, and her gray hairs! She is my first dog and has helped me a lot with my dog fear! I will never, ever, forget her. She is a very special dog to me. One day I wish I can get a service dog.

Ainiewainy I have a Small Beagle-Jack Russell Terrier mix. We just started him on a raw diet and I have seen so many changes in his coat, energy, etc. I would definitely recommend putting your dog on a raw diet!

I have a poodle and he's allergic to grain and poultry, it's also very hard cuz sometimes we'll find a food he likes and doesn't harm him and then they discontinue that food where we live. I would love to put him on a raw diet but he wouldn't have many choices.

Ugh, it broke my heart to hear that! It can actually screw up their digestive system switching back and forth to kibble & raw, especially if the pup's been eating only raw for an extended period of time. Totally get its hard circumstances, but personally id choose to feed my pup fruits & veggies (or even what im eating if acceptable for dogs) over kibble.

Wow. The home health company was really great at sending everything to Orlando. You got everything planned. I'm so happy that you prepared everything. I'm really worried about when the power goes out bc medical tools are required by power. I hope everything goes well. But it sounds that your prepared.

  • @erictaylor5462
    @erictaylor5462 7 лет назад +7

If you suspect you might lose power for an extended time, bye some dry ice and keep it in your freezer. If the power goes out quickly transfer your perishables to the freezer and keep the opening and closing of the freezer to a minimum.
Provided you get enough dry ice, this should be able to keep the freezer unit in the mid to high 30's for several days. It won't keep your ice cream frozen, but it should work for what you need.
Just make sure you don't have your face too close, and keeping Harlow out of the kitchen might be wise. If you do this your freezer compartment will fill with CO2. When you open the freezer door this CO2 will spill out and fall to the floor. You won't see it, but it will be there. The CO2 should fairly quickly mix with the are and diffuse out.

I hope that all of you - your family and you - stay safe. My Mother-In-Law is not very far away from where you are at, and is also working on an evacuation plan - she has several chronic illnesses. I am a little worried about Judd, considering how dangerous is must be for him to work in this weather. I know you will be fine, you are truly prepared, and have an amazing attitude. You may be a lot younger than I am, but can I be you, when I grow up,lol? I am proud of you. Hug your dog for me, I will hug my five rescues, as any storm makes me worried about them, even more. Blessings!

Southern Louisiana girl here, most importantly stay safe. Check out some of the solar generators/battery combos. They can be pricy but if you have a little skill you can make your own. I can run all my medical devices off it for several days, and with a solar panel I'm set if I lose power for an extended amount of time. I do have a gas generator, and my car (Prius) will charge up the batteries if need be as well. I had to set mom up with a small setup as well for her medical devices. It's an added expense but you are so right, our prepping for emergencies is a tad more complicated. And we do the same with the water, I have dedicated water storage containers that I only need to dump and refill twice a year. I'm set always for water outages. Again, thinking of you and your family.

Harlow doesn't have to go back to kibble! There are TONS of commercial raw foods available at any small local pet stores. They are shelf stable and you just add a small amount of water to rehydrate the food. Stella & Chewy's, Primal, Vital Essentials, Sojos, and many more! I feed a brand called Ziwi Peak, which is air-dried raw and that actually doesn't need water. It's stored and served just like kibble.

If a hurricane were to hit up where I live... I would just get a load of cat food for my dog and cat.... my dog actually likes eating cat food... I would also get snacks that doesn't need to be in a fridge... I would also get a bunch of charger stuff and a car adapter so that I could plug any wall charger/ cord into the car to charge it which is a plus... I would also get a portable charger that you can charge and use to charge your phone if needed... I would buy water if I could find it... if I can not find water I will buy a load of containers that I could put it in and take with me.. i would pack my jenga game so I can play with my brother when we get bored.. I would also pack other board games.... i would pack a load of candles and a lighter... deodorant is must so I wouldn't forget that... toothbrush and toothpaste is also a must... clothing is also a must... maybe bring a few toys if you have the space(if you have kids with you this will keep them from becoming bored)... wash dishes like 1 cup per person or something to bring with you just in case.... maybe buy some waterproof bags to put electronic devices in like a Playstation 3, a wii, and etc. to keep them safe... if possible bring some household items that are very important to you.... also bring jewelry if you have any expensive ones... bring anything really expensive just incase... that adapter you might have to plug wall chargers/cords into your car can be used for a mini fridge if you need anything to be in a fridge... bring medicine incase... bring a first aid kit incase...
I would also do this if a tornado was to come up to where I live...

Jaques I pray all if you will be ok. I love your vlogs. I really admire you. You have so many illnesses. I have Ptsd depression and I have panic attacks. I always wonder why i feel so sick every time I eat. You tell the doctor but they just kinda ignore it. Anyway I recently got a new puppy a chihuahua he's 12 weeks old. We have bonded very close and I want to use him as a therapy dog. I haven't had a panic attack since I got him august 20th. And I would like to see when he's a little older if he would since when I'm gonna have an asthma attack or a panic attack. The panic attacks just happen. I want to train him but I really don't know how to start and I really don't know how to train him to to be aware and let me know what's fixing to hsppen. Hes still to much a puppy wanting to play all the time. I wish I could talk with you you are so good at what you do with Harley. BTW Harley is so beautiful and smart. I love your dog. So if you could would you be willing to give me some pointers. Ty Jaquie. Love your vlogs.

I have recently discovered your channel, and I am in love with it. I have many things in common with you, but not as severe. I have dysautonomia (pots), visual floaters, mitochondria cell disorders, pseudo tumor celibri, chiari malformation (6 millimeters) and epilepsy (silent seizures) I am currently trying to train my dog to help me alert of these probloms, and she is a fast learner, but she has some behavioral issues. Keep up the amazing work!

I know this is outdated, but.. I'm a Skywarn certified storm spotter who ironically despises severe weather. I'm from the East Coast so I've unwillingly been through hurricanes, tornadoes and a superstorms in addition to derechos as well. I say unwillingly because I wanted to evacuate but the only working vehicle was my mother's and she didn't want to evacuate at the time during these events. Now I have 3,000 miles between me and the state I'm from before making my final move internationally soon. That being said, I saw a couple flaws in your video.
1.)I told my family before I left I am never returning to where they are unless it's for a trip north for a few days or a layover from a flight. I told them if I was able they would've had their choice, I would've made mine evacuating immediately even for just a general severe storm day regardless of people there family or friends. Since you're ill, why not just book a hotel in a state where the storm won't be at all, and by that I mean any storm.
2.) Furthermore, in a hurricane hospitals aren't always reachable. So if the power went out, your supplies spoiled, and there's a flood or emergency vehicles couldn't get to you then what?

I need a caregiver because I can do very little for myself but I always keep moving forward. :-) I used to live there. Heat is the same issue for me as well. Whenever we had a hurricane coming we always fill the bathtub with water after the bathtub was cleaned well with vinegar and baking soda. Some people used buckets and fill them at home with their tap water ahead of the hurricane. I remember when there was no such thing as bottled water. Don't judge me. LOL

Fill up your bathtub with water and put ziploc bags of water in any open space in the freezer. It'll keep things colder longer if the power does go out but will also give you extra water when it melts! I live in the same area as you and preparing the same way! Stay safe!

I know it's been about six hours since this was uploaded, but if you can Amazon Prime or afford overnight shipping, look into buying a water filter like the Platypus Gravity Feed (expensive but well worth it), Sawyer Squeeze (can filter 100,000 litres but has slow flow rate), or Katadyn (doesn't work too great with dirty water, short working life). Also, maybe look into a chemical treatment like Aquamira or Portable Water. The filters will help clean the water very well, and the chemical treatments will get rid of any and all leftover grossness that could be harmful (if the filters somehow missed it). Of course, these are backups to stockpiles of perfect water, but will be EXTREMELY helpful in the case you run out.

We live where it was considered Zone A evacuation. S.W. Coastal. S.E. Cape Coral FL. I now realize you live in the Tampa Bay area. Love it there. 😉 just wanted to know names and locations of all your doctors and who gave you all your true current diagnosis. I think I remember hearing you say Mayo clinic. My G. I. Is sending me to Mayo around 2nd week of February? Sorry it seems like I don't remember anything, but I have cognitive disorder and possibly early onset dementia (genetic). Anyways yes, just seems like you have an amazing medical team! I'm super interested in your info. I am suffering from almost all of the same illnesses and disabilities. Some different and some effects different. Also I'm a lot older and have had other factors, allergies, ext. Well I'll continue watching you. Love to hear from you soon.

If you have to do kibble (which is obviously the best option right now), try Stella & Chewy's new baked kibble! Because it's baked instead of extruded, it leaves more nutrients intact and doesn't force the body to use ALL those carbs! It's 70% meat and coated in freeze-dried raw! So it's not such a huge step back, like it would to a kibble like TOTW. It should be available at local independent pet stores!! It's a great food!

And here I was thinking that I knew abit about indepth and detailed prepping... I know you've probably heard/read this countless times... So... I won't add to clutter in your intray by gushing at you about how amazing you are... but wow!... It reminds me of some of my mother's requirements for her care... And a little like when we were looking after our daughter when she was really really young... Did I say that I wouldn't tell you how amazing you are...good.. I'd hate to have to go back on that score... Clear thinking, Pre-planning, Positive attitude and keeping to the beat... A one and a two and a... "There is nor flying hence nor tarrying here!"

Please stay safe, I love you guys. STAY SAFE! You can replace your home, but not yourself, and you sure as heck can't replace Harlo. If they tell you to evacuate Orlando, do it. If you stay it will be a danger to you, and Harlo, and Judd. And can you picture living in a world where their not with you?
