As someone who's not satisfied with the live action series, I agree. In fact, the cast is endearing. Kiawentiio read as far as the comics in knowing the deep canon lores of Avatar before she became Katara. If I somehow decide to give the show another chance second season, it'd be because of them 100%

Nah, Jimmy's was understandable because the kid seemed to have implicitly suggested that SNL was a better show. But yeah nah, Gordon's just probably thinking of cool things to say to make a good impression and hold an engaging convo and such. They already had this in mind. That's why the show couldn't address when Sozin's Comet would arrive, where as the original series pin pointed this. The show isn't even officially renewed for a second season as of yet. Even with the staggering numbers in viewership, only time will tell.
Similar to Walker Scobell aging too quickly for Percy Jackson. They're perfect now. Netflix should capture this ASAP.
