Phil is not responsible for Dimebag's death.. The dude who sadly shot Dime is responsible. Phil is responsible for running his mouth and being arrogant, especially speaking about Dime and Vinny. I don't think Vinny would support this in any way. The only reason he would is if Dime reassured him to be cool with it and forgive.

It’s not healthy to hold grudges against people that have grown. Not letting one of your band mates attending dimes funeral after being brothers in a band for so long is honestly hard enough as it is. Forgive and forget. I absolutely adore Pantera, and I love Vinnie and Dime. Forever! I believe that Phil did too. What he said back then was uncalled for, and he knows that now. There is NO WAY that Phil should have been blamed for what happened to Dime. Not even a little bit. Again, I truly love Vinnie and Dime and Pantera has been my second favorite band since the time of Far Beyond Driven (about when I discovered who they were) when I was in high school. When you're grieving, you're always looking for someone to point the finger at when you've lost someone. The guy who did it got what was coming to him so that just left Phil. What Phil said was immature and disgusting, but it wasn't the cause of us losing Dimebag Darrell, and I think even Dime would have said that.
Until Vinnie died, he never forgave Phil. Ever. His blaming Phil for Dime's death, even indirectly, is a remarkably heavy burden to lay on someone. To blame someone's death on a person, especially the way it happened, I think even Vinnie had to have known deep down that it wasn't right, nor was it fair. You just can't lay that on someone's shoulders, expect them to carry it around for the rest of their lives, and call it "fair". Phil broke up the band, okay, I can see where that may have been on him. The death of Pantera, okay. The death of Dimebag Darrell? No way. And Vinnie died having left his blame on Phil. That's just so sad.
And before anybody comes at me with the "How was Pantera's breakup Phil's fault?" argument starter pack, I don't know. I've heard two sides to the story and don't know who to believe because I wasn't there. I just said I could see where it MAY have been his fault. I don't know whose fault it was, so hush!

    • @irvinscottprovinglifeandlo4830

Well until he passed, Vinnie blamed Phil for inciting Dimes killer, when we all know that dude was seriously disturbed long before Phil's comments, So that can be traced back before Dimes untimely death...Phil naturally looked very bad saying the things he said..look at John Lennon's death, MDC was disturbed as well, thought it was going to make him just as famous for killing an icon...and the anniversarys of those murders are forever linked

I think we can agree that this is quite an unusual situation and not the situation with many old bands, where only half (or not so much) of the band is made up of "original" members. (Quotation mark because the members considered "original" are not always the first line-up.) I think some people's fuss about this is exaggerated. Pantera is something special because it happens once in a lifetime. the Stars alligned to have these 4 unlikely characters all in one place at the right time.
I always knew pantera wouldnt last and later reunite. Music and a band Like that can only come when a human being would give 101% out of themselves. The whole band lived worked and toured on kerozine and all 4 cylinders (members) were spewing fire.
That spark that ignited them, all 4 of them in the same time wouldnt and couldnt be recreated after the break up.
To be able to have such a band requires:
    1. 101% Work, practice
    2. 101% TRUST between members
    3. 101% Dedication to only music and the band and nothing else
    4. 101% Belief in yourself.
    5. 101% All members should follow rules 1-4.
Once Phil went down the spiral, there was no band practice, no trust, he had 2 other bands and he lost all his belief in himself...
Its rare when all 4 members of a band all fire on all cylinders at the same time.
this is why we see many bands fail becase either 1-2 members are in this mode.
Also u cant live at this tempo 24/7 for a long extended period. Its just physically impossible.
So What Ima say is Pantera showed us what a band is.

We can't be sure about the Bros. and no, this is not the best. The best that could happened in respecting Vinnie's will was going with a different band's name and not "marketed" as Pantera (like it's actually happening and doing). It's just Vinnie was always against any reunion and the use of Pantera as the band's name ever again (especially after Dime's death). Vinnie had also bad blood against Phil, they never made peace. With Vinnie alive that kind of operation would not be possible. Them (Phil, Rex with Zakk and Benante) going as Pantera now is against Vinnie's will but on the other hand is bringing way more money for all. There's also a big business behind. Not only did Phil front some of the heaviest bands to ever exist Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual. There were more projects out there people forget about probably the most unknown being a band called Necrophagia where Phil was on guitar and it's one of my favorite bands to this day.
Phil wanted to work on other things and other bands, the brothers didn't like the idea that much, so Phil just destroyed Pantera to get out on his own. Once out on his own people hounded him about Pantera until Dime died and Vinny disowned Phil. It sucks, wish we had both Dime and Vinny here still.
