I was crazy impressed with last week's sequence, and these tips are just what I needed to give my content that extra boost! I'd love a video on how you come up with these different shots, like what your storyboarding process is. The 2 wide, medium, and close up idea was super helpful!
Thank you. Tip #2 was helpful. All of it was helpful. I like the idea of hanging a camera upsidedown perhaps on a monopod while riding or walking. Yes, to editing being separate once I have a lot of quality b-roll.
As a small youtube channel, i can only do self filming and i realized that its actually forced me to get more creative with my angles and shots and its also quite fun haha
Very useful video! If anyone has the budget for it, I really reccomend getting a gimbal with a remote control as well. I bought a manfrotto gimbal and I've been experimenting with walking shots while I'm turning the camera with the manfrotto app on my phone to create movement... works surprisingly well :)
Great tips Joris! The tripod tip is awesome, I find myself always having to film by myself, to the point where I've started making it a challenge to shoot a movie without anyone else and I it can be difficult to make the shots more dynamic than just sitting the camera on the sticks.
On wide, locked off shots, sometimes you can lose the ND and stop down the lens a bit for greater depth of field. Not every shot calls for tons of bokeh. A bit less blurry background can be the right trade off to be in focus more of the time when moving toward or away from the camera.
Nice video Curious if you have anything with filming yourself filming yourself? As I am curious about camera placement and safe places as well as locations for a camera?
Even though I'm going to film with my phone, I still need to wait for my M50 to get repaired since it is going to be a prop in my sequence. It just arrived at the repair center about a half hour ago, so hopefully they don't take too long fixing it. Your last two videos have me extremely motivated to do this. I may go shoot some nonsense with my phone today just so I can keep the momentum from dying down before I get my camera back.
Please give tips on How i can do Food/cake/dessert B-rolls. I record on my own and i create mainly for Instagram Reels. How can i add movement to my shots? Can i use gimbal with motion tracking along with my phone?
Hey Joris, do y’all have Walmart’s in Belgium, if so could you take a look at some cheap video accessories from there and compare them to higher end gear?
Just bought a goddamn gimbal. I feel stripped, fucked and a little proud at the same time. Managed to balance the bastard it in 30 seconds woohoo. And then finally made the shots I wanted to do for half a year. I feel like one of the things that has kept me from being creative for a long time is telling myself I don't need any of that semi-pro gear... But everytime I upgraded, things did get better and easier and I liked the process better. So I am going to continue to do that and make the most of my new toy hehe 😂
@@JorisHermans Can’t you see my photo here? It’s clear that I’m basically bigger than him! Hahahahhaa. Seriously though dude is jacked! Sending you some good vibes @peterlindgren

Make long takes so you'll have a lot more room to maneuver. 😬
can you make a tutorial about how to make videos like you are doing at your house (if possible with phone, because I dont have a camera)
Hello sir
I was crazy impressed with last week's sequence, and these tips are just what I needed to give my content that extra boost! I'd love a video on how you come up with these different shots, like what your storyboarding process is. The 2 wide, medium, and close up idea was super helpful!

Great tips Joris! Getting more shots than you need really helps. Nothing sucks more than starting an edit and realizing you have to do reshoots. 😱

Yep, what also helps is experimenting in the editing process if you only have static shots.
On wide, locked off shots, sometimes you can lose the ND and stop down the lens a bit for greater depth of field. Not every shot calls for tons of bokeh. A bit less blurry background can be the right trade off to be in focus more of the time when moving toward or away from the camera.
Superb advice, one of your tips helped a lot because I have been racking my brain to film walking and get it smooth.
