Seems like a beast of a synth. One of the more interesting instruments I've seen in quite a while. Amazing that the analogue mono synth still brings such good thinking and design.
Thanks for the in depth review! Convinced me to buy one and it’s an incredible machine! The knob per feature makes for a super accessible and flexible instrument. One hand on the keys, the other on the knobs it’s a gratifying experience! And it sounds gorgeous!
I love synths like this... but I hate the price of admission.... I do own a few unique synths and they all had steep price tags for a guy who lives just above the poverty line. I do love when people make sample packs of unique synths though 👌 😍
One of the better sounding monosynths I have heard in quite a bit. Also a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of the same ole tired designs we see. Well done!
@@SolarReannex NGL, I would swap analog for digital if it meant I could have 6-8 voices of this synth engine. I really do wonder why more synths don't have a wave folder and a resonant filter.
Yeah I love the concept of it all just being there. I have so many pieces of gear that I know have functionality beyond what I am aware of but I can't remember all the shortcuts and shifts and key combos to access the right function.
@@Oliver_Hallowee Indeed. From my experience, inspiration waits for no one. So many tunes get lost because the danm gear slows everything down. This synth has PLENTY of functionality already. I don't need shift key shenanigans getting the way of artistic flow. If I had the cash, I'd buy one of these right now.
Badass outro! I tried this at Perfect Circuit and the tones are inspiring. The price was the only thing keeping me from getting it that day. Definitely not an impulse buy for most people!
I love this synth and have spent many hours in sonic exploration. It has a rich complex sound when you need it but also a great solid simple analogue sound for creating basses. The build quality is excellent - 5 stars.
good review as always. The huge value for me from these videos is that they help me both add and remove items form the GAS -list. This holds especially true for gear i was not aware of. FWIW, i am in a strange place: i have the essential gear i wanted for my projects, so everything is extra, and i hesitate to pull the trigger on new items because i know the future holds even cooler noise toys.
Enjoying new Buchla 208c, while still love my Moog! Here two in a small package ... writing to Santa. Cool part Loopop' persistent reminder to manufacturers in the need of visual feedback starts materialize over the knobs now :)
Thanks for the in-depth demo as always. Cool looking Synth but the cost is way over what it can do. For about the same price you can get into modular which has more patching options and a better chance of unusual sounds because modular has infinite possibilities.
Great work! In spite of its minor flaws I can see this being a great “addition” to anyone’s eurorack setup or hardware synth collection for sequencing melodies. Also, might be fun for textures and soundscapes!
At 19:00 I love how you explained the DAC requirements. Sometimes I am in awe at the sheer number of DAC that are required for analog synths that have digital control. When I think about the Prophet 12, which even has digital delays that are independent to each of its 12 analog voices, and with all the patch points, it must have like 100 or more DAC inside
In the case of the Prophet at least, there is most likely only one DAC but multiple S/H circuits fed by multiplexers. (This is how the Prophet 5 works.)
Those LED half-rings are nice, as are the time division buttons. I don't think it's for me, but it looks like it's hit a nice point in the design space.
I gotta be honest. While it looks nice, it sounds nice enough. But for all those hardware limitation, all those weird quirks, the price, and how basic it truly sounds. Idk it sounds like my first eurorack setup put into a fancy box. I guess I don't see what function it truly serves. It doesn't sound very unique, it sure looks unique! But then the weird limitations, and it's not like a lyra-8 where there's a very clear design you're kind of expected to bend to, this is just kind of a bland palette to me. Great video as always of course!
I was all in, until you pointed out that there's no key tracking for the filter or legato functionality. Sadly, those two features are a must-have on a mono for me. Too bad. And here I'm shopping for a new synth... Sigh. Cheers!
That would do great leads with my Analogue solutions Impulse Command. Definitely a match. Both seem unpredictable in their own way. Also only because of the fusion WestCoast (Buchla) handling.
Great sounding wavefolding. So often the wavefolding in synths just quickly gets ugly. Certain folks like Instruo (and this one) have designs that create a harmonic timbre without just making it sound like a chainsaw.
I was eagerly awaiting this thing, but ultimately decided to get into modular and buying a pair of Instruo CS-L modules which got me the westcoast sound I was wanting. The Implexus is still far cheaper than a Buchla Easel and sounds very good, whilst I wouldn't buy one as I can get those sounds with what I have, it would be nice to have when I'm not feeling like patching up modular.
So many of these cool synths and other hardware that you bought at discounts, what happens when you're done with the review, do you keep all these? You must have the largest studio in the world!
it is only 1400$ and it has two envelopes, a basic delay, two lfos, almost full midi AND you can choose your own color of power cable when you buy one. honestly, it's almost too good to be true.
This sounds so great it’s ridiculous to gripe about midi and cc commands . And the build quality IS usually the weakest link in chain on oh say 60% of what’s on offer from the same percent of manufacturers with shift hell and it’s associated klan of geeky bells and whistles that those looking for admiration of their posey want of course . ( who cares ) Plug in a controller and go “ sounds good to me . And I think this “Sounds MUCH better than the brutes you spoke of For sure . 👽
That RE-909 - what on earth is filling that box? There must be some super-complex circuitry and high-end power supplies to justify that much desk space.
Ableton's Man: it's really a huge expensive synth to just turn a few knobs... Hardware Man: I'm tired of updating my mac for 1 hour before starting anything, I just dream of turning a few knobs :)
I always get excited till I check out the price then the excitement dies away especially being in Australia where any new cool synth costs an arm / leg and a lung

Little nuance here! It won't "damage" it right away, we have protected the synth against any direct "damage ". However, inserting a TS cable into a 1/4" TRS jack output driver (fully balanced) will short Ring to Sleeve. This "short" will cause one of the opamps outputs to be shorted to sleeve, we have taken precaution to protect the opamp, but for the long term it is better to use TRS cables. ps: this might be different in other gear!
@@MajellaAudio I guess you can use properly "shorted" TS cables then without harming it. I'd recommend to use balanced cables anyway. It's great that you implemented that. I wish other manufacturers would do that as well.
