Can't believe it, these guys sound great after all these years. Saw them over three decades ago in their prime with Collins. Very inspiring to me as a fusion musician.
Wow, you're so lucky to have seen them. For me this was one of those totally obscure bands, even within the huge community of fusion fans I was lucky enough to grow up around.
They like to cook.theyre chefs of the future.!!!!and I was one who caught them around 77 Morris stage Morristown NJ...also seen ponty there and another time UK.i wonder if that venue is still happening.????
@@aylbdrmadison1051 Funny, I never found them obscure but most of my musician friends did, being busy discussing if more main stream bands like "Return To Forever" or "Weather Report" were the best Fusion Band around back then. But it makes no sence to discuss which band the better.
I got to shake hands with the whole band after their show at the Iridium in NYC a couple of years ago. I waited over 30 years for them to play again. Thank you BrandX!
IJMTUAIGA...lol Brand X opened up my mind to a whole new world of music. What would come to be know as fusion. They are still inspiring me and many others to break boundaries and genres of music and freely be creative.
I'm not a musician, but agree with you. Brand X is just great to listen again and again. I love them, along with Frank Zappa, Allan Holdsworth, Casiopea, and other fusion bands. I wish I could attend one of their concert, even though I'm afraid it's not going to happen (I'm french)
I have n o idea, if he is the best. But for sure one of the best. Damned phonky ... :D Hope, the guys will join europe later. Corona killed a lot of tourdates.
@gouldbj I've heard of him because I own the first two Brand X albums. I also have a story about him: A friend and I got onto an elevator at a hotel. There were three other guys on it. My friend and I were going to see a band Jones was in called Tunnels. My friend said, "Tunnels should be good." I said, "fucking Percy Jones is such a phenomenal bass player." My friend agreed and made another comment about how good he was. The old guy standing at the front of the elevator shot me a look when I said "fucking Percy Jones". As we stepped off the elevator, I thought to myself, "I'll bet that's fucking Percy Jones!" 😆 As we walked away, I asked my friend if that was Jones. He said, "yeah, that's why I brought up Tunnels." In my defense, I had never seen a picture of him prior to that.
Was in concert 06/08/2017 @ Daryl House NY - it was great! Have some conversations with Goodsall and others. So kind! Stuff of Daryl club were prohibit to make a photos even on a phones!!!
That bloomin' guitarist Goodsall hardly uses his 'pinkie' finger [like Guthrie Govan and many other greats] and still flays the fret board. Awesome player leaving turd players like myself in full respect. Love this band!
Birage...check out the 1979 interview with John Goodsall and Phill Collins on The Boffomundo Show. (RUclips: Boffomundo). And join the Boffomundo Facebook page for the new Brand X interview coming in December!
I see a lot of posts on Phil Collins. How about Mike Clark. Mike and Percy teamed up on a lot of the more energetic Brand X tracks with Product and Do they Hurt. Phil had a more looser free-form style. Mike played tight in the pocket funk filled with complex rudiments. Agree though both great drummers and Phil's amazing vocals.
Has anyone seen one of they're shows? I'd like to know what they are playing. I saw them live from 78-82 at the Roxy in Hollywood. Never got to see Goodsall, but Phil Collins did tour with them in 82. Percy Jones is one of the most underrated bassist of all time.
Just saw them last night in Oakland CA. More energetic than I've seen them on videos, and they were in rare form, very animated crowd. They played from their canon, recognizing the first couple of albums are crowd favorites. True virtuosity on display, go see them when they come to your town. Get seats in front!
percy jones is indeed a god ... however auto wow was invented after they recorded this track and i prefer a cry baby on his bass because he had to play it. and the new electronics don’t articulate how i remember his bass sounding when he had to manually open the filter, am i right?
This one song in exp jazz shouldn't be played with improvisation. It should be played like it is forever. It's a master piece. As there is only one Monalisa there should be only one Born Ugly.
Peter Mayer. Chris Clark is playing Keyboards. Great musician. Drums is Kenny Grahowski. Also great. Tour started with Kenwood Dennard in drums but his teaching at Berklee prevented him from continuing.
They once said that they couldn't be a band without Phil. Totally bollox as they proved and provided loads without him. But personally I prefer the Phil albums
This is an ASTOUNDINGLY good video (along with And So to F., and Malaga Virgen which you posted from June 10th 2017)! Incredible sound as well, and airtight playing up on stage. Can we dare to hope that you shot a few more songs that night? Disco Suicide? Anything? :) Thanks for posting these! as amazing as those from January shot from the same exact spot. ;)
Orne Batmagoo thanks for the compliments. That's the only 3 I shot, much easier to enjoy the show not filming. I have been lucky to see 3 of the shows since October. I wanted to share these to all the Brand X fans. Hopefully they expand the tour footprint to include many more cities. Each show they seemed to step up their game as they get their legs back underneath them.
I agree on getting their legs back slowly but surely. I was at the Sellersville show in January - I was glad to see your posts then. This latest sounds even better - the solos are tighter, etc. but your sound recording is supremely good as well, which helps. I also agree with your comment about enjoying the show instead of filming. Thanks for these posts!
Living in south west of France I won't have a chance to see any of their shows. So thank you for sharing. I mis Disco Suicide, it's my favorite. Did they play it recently ?
ruclips.net/video/17qtNy4RA3U/видео.html and if I were you, I'd consider taking a little trip somewhere just to catch them. I know it's costly, but this is a rare miracle.
John Goodsall wailing till the end. Rest in Peace John.
Percy Jones... so glad he still plays!
I met him two weeks ago!!!! What a Gentleman!!!
Percy Jones is one of a kind, totally unique player. Really nice guy too
Всем музыкантам группы низкий поклон.
Amazing how those guys are great! After more than 40 years, their music remains fresh and exciting!
John Goodsall - Guitar
Percy Jones - Bass
Chris Clark - Keys
Kenny Grahowski - Drums
Scott Weinberger - percussion
Oh i though Robin lumley
Never get tired of these guys.
A real treat to see them playing what we've spent years listening to & enjoying.
For 39 years in my case !
Now this is awesome! I'm really happy to find this!
Goodsall shows he is the overlooked Master!
OH YEAH! They sound incredible! Percy is just awesome.
Can't believe it, these guys sound great after all these years. Saw them over three decades ago in their prime with Collins. Very inspiring to me as a fusion musician.
nice, but Im afraid you meen 40 years ago, sad but true .
Yeah, your right,.......well, I did say 'over' three decades ago! Time flies!
Wow, you're so lucky to have seen them.

Would hug all these guys and say.....Thank You.....Love Brand X...nothing like them....rick.
I'm going to see Brand X in Liverpool in April. I had their first two albums. I recognise this. Amazing. Can't wait.
IJMTUAIGA...lol Brand X opened up my mind to a whole new world of music. What would come to be know as fusion. They are still inspiring me and many others to break boundaries and genres of music and freely be creative.

Same here. I love Brand X even more than Genesis.
Mr Jones.......Thank You.
Bravooo Brand X... My life
my life too !!!!!!
This band and other formats rule the jazz fusion genre
Oh, you beauty! What a nice surprise. RUclips can never have enough Brand X videos; thank you so much.
This was the video that made me go out and see them! Thanks!
Sempre in forma. Tropo avanti per avere il consenso delle folle.. Da sempre. Chi adesso ascolta la musica attuale ha ciò che si merita.
When jazz prog arrived, Brand X was at the first landing. This vid is a very small taste of what they did live
My fave brand X track. It has a bit of everything. I would love to spend a happy afternoon with that guitar, talk about 'custom' lol.
Brilliant! Always loved them.
Percy Jones is perhaps the greatest Bass player ever lived. Weirdest sounds imaginable. I don't know a soul who ever heard of him.
i have from long ago..wal to wal!
I have n o idea, if he is the best. But for sure one of the best. Damned phonky ... :D Hope, the guys will join europe later. Corona killed a lot of tourdates.
totally, been listening to these guys since the 70's
Best or not, he definitely may be the most underrated.
@gouldbj I've heard of him because I own the first two Brand X albums.

Though this musicianship overcomes most, "sound great, look ugly" nails it.
Impresionante el sólo de John.
Todavía sigue poniendo los pelos de punta ...
Questi sono fenomeni finché vivono !
Saw this show and the last amazing sound!!!
Got into them in the early 80's and was happy to see phil collins was there for a bit. John and Percy are consumate musicians
these geezers killing it
Was in concert 06/08/2017 @ Daryl House NY - it was great! Have some conversations with Goodsall and others.

Brand X rule,gday from Melbourne,Australia.
In one word “exceptional”!!!
Brilliant !
good work !!!
Super work guys
Yes!
Fabulous..
Awesome!
Funkiest Groove EVER.
カッコよ過ぎ!パーシー、ベースが唄ってます!
Percy Jones still the bassman...
That bloomin' guitarist Goodsall hardly uses his 'pinkie' finger [like Guthrie Govan and many other greats] and still flays the fret board. Awesome player leaving turd players like myself in full respect. Love this band!
Wow - no joke. He should have had my high-school guitar teacher, who got on me to start using my pinky, much to my eternal gratitude.
Class!

I saw John Goodsall in the 70's with Atomic Rooster
Ancora eccezionali!!! (bravo il batterista, ma peccato manchi Phil Collins)

swaggs I have been 3 of the shows this year since the reunion started. All fantastic shows. They are on a west coast swing right now.
Thanks mrmac1958, I plan on seeing them later this month. I'm really stoked.

Anyone have a clue as to what Percy is using for an Envelope Filter ? What a sound !
Mick Kam on bass for Japan was closed to this sound
Great!
Nice but video cut short
☝️😎
It's not "Éclipse childs" movie in back of the band ?
Grandi.
there are two kind of bass players:
1) Percy
2) the others
🤣
What is the lineup here?
Because two percussions.. If it sounds like one ???
Mortal
Я чёт не понял. А где гитара?
existen dos especies... los buenos para tocar y los buenos para escuchar... yo soy de los segundos.
Do they have a keyboard guy? He's never on camera
Unfortunately no drummer can replace phil except the great Cobham
Is that Robin Lumley on keyboards? And who's playing drums?
Peter Mayer. Chris Clark is playing Keyboards. Great musician. Drums is Kenny Grahowski. Also great. Tour started with Kenwood Dennard in drums but his teaching at Berklee prevented him from continuing.
Percy flubbing a bit around 6:50... :*(
Great performance! There is always at least one rude, condescending a-hole in the audience who probably couldn't hold a beat with a handle. 0:16
They once said that they couldn't be a band without Phil. Totally bollox as they proved and provided loads without him. But personally I prefer the Phil albums
Better with Phil on drums.
He can t play this anymore
not really
DES GÉNIES NON RECONNUS
What a habit of whistling when musicians require greater care and concentration, spoils the music.
