Thanks fella!! I'll keep working away.... I need to channel some of that antipodean coolness you guys have in bucket loads!!
BMX has moved on from when I used to go to Rom skate park in the 80s....trashing my Skyways or ACS Z rims 🤣🤣

Great video! I just got a second hand bike and it has hydraulic discs on it - I've never had a bike with disc brakes of any kind (for the very reason of maintenance headaches!) so it's been a bit of a minefield figuring out how to fix them. I'm pretty confident now having watched this, that I don't need to spend around 120 Euros getting my pads changed and oil swapped out! I just need bleed kit :) Thank you!

Out the blue my rear brake leaver is pulling in close to the grip and is spongy, Its only 4 months old, Shimano SLX M7120. Pads are fine, Stood bike up and flicked the leaver like you did and got a few bubbles out, But still the same. I'm wondering if there is air in the caliper and try drawing the fluid through like what you did. What i don't understand is how can the brake can become spongy like this all of a sudden.

Hello Jennifer, sorry to hear you are having troubles with the bike.
I'm assuming that there is no obvious signs of fluid loss... Look for oily wetness :
      *on the lever.....
particularly where the brake line/tube enters the main body of the lever (check the nut is tight)....
and in that pivot /fulcrum area where the actual lever is attached to the main body of the brake lever (eg where the piston and rocker mechanism are).
*along the length of the brake line/tube (could have got damaged in any number of ways)
      * Down at the caliper itself....
      around the bleed nipple...
around the seals of the caliper pistons.....
and where the brake line/tube enters the caliper (check nut for tightness).
Assuming all these things are good, try the the bleed as I did in the video, pulling oil from the caliper bleed nipple should suck out any air at that end of the system.....I stress though that you do need that bleed reservoir (bucket thing?!) at the lever to feed in fresh oil as you draw the old stuff out.
Let me know how you get on and good luck. Craig :-)

@@fixitfallows Hi, It's Stuart, my wife's account. I have just been out and sucked the fulid from the calliper and can't believe the amount of Air that came out, Leaver is solid now. Will just need to wait and see, Air must have got in somehow, going back out to check it over.

Hey Stuart, hello. Yes it can be quite surprising the amount of air that gets in there ..... and how 🤷🏼‍♂️??!!!
Let's hope that resolves things for a good length of time for you.....but at least you know how quick and easy it is to sort.
Are you getting much riding it at the moment?
      All the best buddy.
      Craig

@@fixitfallows I just nipped the nut at the leaver just a touch, brakes feel great again, I have neve bled them like this before, Wish I tried this before with my old brakes, I had same problem and couldn't resolve it. If I can get out, I'm out. Was out in the snow today, Tough going in bits.

@@stuarts4673 Glad this has worked for you.... fingers crossed it's a long term win.
Snow you say? No such issue here in the South East ..... mores the pity, I don't mind a bit of snow!!!
      Good luck.
