ROOT CANAL treatment step by step - 3D video of endodontics for tooth decay ©

  • How is a root canal treatment done? When is it necessary?
3D video of Clínica Médico Dental Pardiñas (j.mp/cPardinas) about endodontics, a dental treatment for deep cavities and/or dental destruction.
This treatment is necessary when the nerve of the tooth is irreversibly affected by caries, trauma, or wear, etc. As the caries progresses, the damage caused to the tooth may be more or less superficial, meaning it may only affect the external layer of the tooth (the enamel), but may continue until it reaches the internal tissues such as the dentine and finally the dental pulp (the nerve of the tooth). Depending on the advance of the disease (its size and depth), symptoms may appear ranging from slight pain or discomfort, through to severe, incapacitating pain accompanied by abscesses and even fever. Generally, the closer the caries is to the dental pulp (the nerve), the more painful and damaging it is.
More information about cavities 👉 bit.ly/cavitiesDT
There are other causes that may affect the nerve of the tooth, such as traumas (impacts caused by sporting and traffic accidents, children's accidents, etc) which also cause pain and require immediate treatment.
Finally, and no less important, are destructive non-bacterial processes (wearing of the teeth). These may be physiological (due to the patient’s age) or pathological, caused by bad habits such as overly aggressive brushing, using highly erosive toothpaste, onychophagy (biting your nails), or bruxism (grinding and clenching your teeth). In many cases, the loss of tooth tissue is so severe that it may affect the nerve, causing different clinical symptoms such as sensitivity (felt when eating or drinking cold things, sugary foods, acidic foods, etc.), pain and abscesses.
First all infected material is removed from the tooth. After that, a series of files of different lengths and widths are used to remove all the infected material from the roots.
The area is irrigated with disinfectant liquid and dried. At last, the roots and the inside of the tooth are sealed with different materials.
Once finished, the infection will be slowly reabsorbed until it disappears.
There are cases where the destruction of the tooth is so big that once the root canal treatment is done, the tooth gets very weak, so it is necessary to make a crown. For doing so, the tooth is prepared, and some molds are taken to manufacture the crown that will be cemented to the tooth.
In other cases, the destruction of the tooth is bigger, so it is necessary to place pins inside the tooth to give the crown more support and stability.

I too had this done a week ago!
I was in so much pain I ended up in the emergency room. I was TERRIFIED knowing I had to get nerves removed, and in the end it was a walk in the park!
I did tell the dentist I was extremely anxious about it and he was super reassuring! He used anesthesia and I didn’t feel a thing throughout! If it ever got too uncomfortable, he stopped and added some more anesthesia just in case. It was over in the blink of an eye!
I’m so glad I got this done! I’m sure many of us are scared of this, but you’ve got this! No need to be scared!

Some pain afterwards. The doctor says expect it to be three or four days before the pain goes completely away. Not a pleasant experience but not a terrible one either.

For those who are wondering that root canal might be painful. Then no it won't even hurt a bit. So the dentist first give you injection of anesthesia and during this you may feel a little pain. But after this the whole procedre would not hurt. Go ahead for a root canal it doesn't hurt. I got my today and going to have another tomorrow. Tbh I was also kinda scared and nervous before root canal but it went well. But it might feel uncomfortable. (btw I am 14 years old )

it depends on how bad the situation is. if the infection isn’t too deep, the local anesthesia would work well. the pain is very minimal but if it’s too deep sometimes the local anesthesia is not enough and you’d have to get what is called the intrapulpal anesthesia even then the patient could still feel pain because of the severity of the infection.

Medical Problems can contribute to a tooth cavity by causing acid from your stomach to flow back into your mouth. Similarly, bulimia increases the risk of a tooth cavity when the teeth are exposed to stomach acid during frequent vomiting. In addition, some types of cancer treatment that expose the head and neck to radiation can promote a tooth cavity by changing the makeup of the saliva to promote increased bacterial growth.

I guess i’m gonna tell you my experience with this procedure
I was very nervous to get this done cause i didn’t know exactly what was going to happen. When i went in the office put a jelly type thing on my cheek no pain at all, then they got the numbing stuff (my bad i don’t know exactly what they are called💀) it was in a needle but i didn’t feel a thing when they did it because they put that gel on it im terrified of needles but they kept me calm the entire time. Then they put the numbing medicine on my gums I was kinda worried cause they didn’t put that gel on and when i asked they said it was only a little pinch. I did feel something but it didn’t hurt that much it was just a little pinch like they said.
After that they began to drill and all that stuff no pain at all just pressure it was loud though but I had music playing I also recommend music to make you calm. There was a smell while they were drilling kinda like burning rubber it was a awful smell but nothing crazy
They kept me calm the entire time asking if I was okay and telling me that i was doing fine that helped me a lot.
When they were done i was not in pain but my mouth was VERY numb i did have a little trouble talking but it wasn’t anything crazy. They gave me an antibiotic and a pain medication
I did start to feel pain after I took a nap and woke up. I’m gonna say it now i’m a crier so of course i cried but not like full blown tears i was just so uncomfortable, numb and hungry so the pain wasn’t helping. They told me to only eat soft foods because i would probably bite my cheek or tongue, I did end up biting a little so i’m kinda sore now but i’m ok.
I’m going to say this so y’all can understand ASK QUESTIONS ‼️ asking questions about the procedure might help you prepare for what’s going to happen please please PLEASE ask questions
I was very afraid but it was not a bad experience thank you and byeee

Sofia Staropoli it depends on which tooth and which doctor
Cause if the tooth was in the back of your mouth you will have to open your mouth till you hear your jaw cracking and that's the real pain
For the doctor if he uses old methods this means more time also if he sucks this means pain till you find a new doctor :) which hurts the wallet as well

Just had it today, i was literally so worried and was like trembling with fear and for me i watched this video before my root canal was done
    1sr Session:
I was literally so scared but then i was like its fine cuz its gonna save my tooth and and wont hurt after wards and i had deep cavity. I sat in the chair thingi and waited and the surgeons took my xrays multiple times for confirmation and then it was decided that it was a RCT. I layed down and my surgeon was rally cooperative he did the best he could and first injected a syringe with local anesthesia(felt like a pinch no pain at all). He then did some drilling and stuff and again no pain at all i was actually surpised and there were few spots it hurt but i told him and that he checked the spts and asked me if that specific place hurts or not and then gave me more anestesia over all the pain level was like 0.5/10 lmao. It was more discomforting then like painful cuz you have to keep open your mouth for like many mintues (depending how deep the cavity is) for me it took 35-40 mins and that was my first session i hope the second and third goes this well too and again dont be afraid you wont even feel a thing

Just got root canal for 3 of my lower incisor teeth and to be honest my teeth had a severe infection so at the first sitting the it took 2 shots of anaesthesia to numb , it hurted a lot but was bearable. After that 2nd and 3rd sitting were without anaesthesia had a little pressure on tooth thats it. So I would like to say that this procedure is pain-free and you experience little to no pain but if anyone has a severe infection like me, they might experience some pain maybe about 3 on a scale of 10. So dont delay your appointment for dentist.

    My honest experience:
I’ve felt tingles during the procedure like if I wasn’t given anaesthesia and I couldn’t bear it I slightly pushed the dentist’s hands and then he injected the area with more dose and waited few minutes to complete the treatment, after that, I started feeling bearable pain and tingles until I got fully numb.
Actually it wasn’t first experience, been through it two times and both were terrible experiences (although I don’t have dental fear at all) it’s the painful tingles during procedure for me.

If 12 year old me could take it I think you should be able to as well. If it's an infection it can spread. You need to talk to your dentist because it can affect your other teeth.

here’s my experience (tis a little lengthy but is some good info for ppl that’s unfamiliar with it):
the first time I got it done was a month ago and it was not bad! I was scared ofc because of my anxiety, but the dentist did a good job at reassuring me that everything would be fine. I was under laughing gas, and it scared the hell outta me because of the floating effects I felt. the only things that I disliked was when he had to push my gums down with this sharp tool and when he was drilling deep into my tooth because it was a lot of uncomfortable pressure. the procedure was fairly quick though. abt 30 minutes.
the second time was today! (I know my teeth are raggedy) and my mouth is more sore because this tooth was more “stubborn”, so he had to take longer. I was also on my period (a little TMI) and my bleeding was minimal even though the 4th day usually the bloodiest. in fact, I didn’t really bleed until after the procedure was over. could’ve been the laughing gas. I don’t like the laughing gas at all tbh. it’s scary to me and the taste is nasty.
but yeah. the procedure itself should be painless since you’ll have your mouth numbed and a needle stuck inside your jaw (it will pinch and feel uncomfortable since it’s long, but it shouldn’t hurt) the only thing is the possible pain afterwards.
post-op: I picked up my meds (penicillin & hydrocodone). I wasn’t in serious pain like most people said they were in. the first time I got it done, I was in no pain and was still doing what I normally do as someone with a normal pain tolerance. the only thing that I hated were the jaw & earaches. the pain stopped after 3 days! the hydrocodone (for pain) made me feel very sick though since it’s a common side effect and I slept a lot. I got my replacement tooth like two weeks ago.
now after my second procedure, day one has been ok. I haven’t felt sick with the hydrocodone today! edit: I ended up feeling really weak and sick that whole day. felt like flu symptoms. I am feeling the jaw and ear aches though. but yeah! the cost is about $2K so far. will be another $1.2K after I get my tooth but the insurance will pay their part. :-)

I am getting a root canal done on my last bottom left molar tomorrow that will require a crown. the second to last bottom left has already had a root canal but suffered tooth decay because either the crown wasn't big enough or my teeth grew as i got it about 6 years ago. The reason the decay got beneath the crown is because i developed a gap between my last two teeth once i got my wisdom teeth out.(stuff was constantly getting stuck down there and i was always having to pick it out.) Eventually the pain got worse because the stuff getting stuck down there ended up infecting the last tooth low. luckily not too low and theyre able to perform a root canal. The decay on the second to last is almost to the bone so they said im best off extracting. then getting an implant. do you think its possible to fix the old root canal?

I was really scared but they numbed me well and the dentist was really kind (he knows I’m afraid). I’m a bit sore, but thank GOD that root has gone! I was in agony over the weekend with toothache.
My teeth are pretty good, but I had a tiny hole at the back so the tooth has died, despite the filling.

So in my case, I had the first part done fixing to have the second part done soon
I had a good awful infection I was in agonizing pain for 3 weeks I'm 32 weeks pregnant and was in the E.R a lot for the pain I could NOT handle it got so bad my throat swelled almost SHUT
I'm terrified of needles like I'll faint if I see them but over the month of August I took a total of 27 needles like a boss
(for IVs and the numbing stuff)
Went into my dentist at 8 am and lost it after they numbed me it didn't hurt but my body was under so much stress I had a tremor attack in the chair and they both held my hands and put a cold washcloth on my forehead and they turned my music on for me and gave me a stress ball and I finally stopped shaking and they got to work for my case I still had a hot tooth because the infection was that awful (yes was on antibiotics) the numbing stuff worked but not fully I'm a rare case where I have a lot of extra nerves in my mouth and my roots are larger then the average person so I did feel some pain but not awful pain it was like if you were popping a pimple on your forehead 😂 I don't handle pain well like at all but I like hummed during the slightly painful part 😂👏 while my husband was giving me a foot massage the drilling part I didn't feel anything at all and to me, it didn't stink it smelt like a really funky cake mix (I have a really amazing sense of smell)
When she got to removing the pulp is when I felt the pain but on a scale of 1 to 10 ten being the agonizing pain I was in for 3 weeks the pain was at a 2 so not bad at all (root canals normally do not hurt I am a rare case due to extra nerves and the infection) mine took about 2 hours but to me, I think I took a nap, to be honest, I was only really there for about 30 minutes and I zoned out but they said I was still responding to them
That dentist saved my life and my child's life the infection was spreading really fast and could have easily killed me
Also the agonizing pain was driving me insane I had no peace at lost my memory from my entire 2nd trimester and a few other things are now missing from my memory (agonizing pain can do that) I didn't get to relax and enjoy 3 weeks of my pregnancy and was turned away by a lot of dentists because I was so pregnant I wasn't sleeping due to the agonizing pain maybe 30 minutes day and some days I would faint from the pain mixed with pure exhaustion when my throat almost swell shut I got Morphine and was able to sleep (had to get a cat scan that day)
This dentist saved my life and my child’s life for that I’m so thankful I’ve been sleeping a lot and my baby is doing great the infection didn’t get to her and I’m happy
Thank you for reading my long story and I hope if you’re in pain you’ll get help fast and not have to suffer like I did but I know if I can suffer for 3 weeks I can suffer a day or so in labor and delivery

Everyone go have your treatment, but when the pain gets too much, don't hesitate and inform the dentist by moaning or other means so he can do something about it. Don't try to be a hero. I also puked on the way home.
It won't be painless in all cases just because some youtube comments say it is. Those traumatised by the treatment typically don't watch videos about it after.

I have an appointment today in the evening and I am super scared.... will give an update after the session
Oki so basically I has my first appointment today after 2 hours and let me put it simply... I was just terrified at first but the dentist sprayed some sort of spray so that the anaesthetic injection wouldn't hurt and apart from the nasty taste of the spray everything was fine.. the injection scared me tondeath but it was nothing more than just a small poke. Now let me be honest here for all those who are scared for their Root Canals, it's going to be smooth. I was nervous but the experience was normal and I didn't feel any pain and please don't be scared guys.... if a nervous wreck like me can go through it then ofc u can too.... btw I am just 14 and I'll have my second appointment for permanent filling and crown after 2 days.... will give an update on that too
TIPS: 1)BE AWARE OF THE PROCEDURE OF THE TREATMENT.
2)HAVE PAINKILLERS SINCE AFTER THE TREATMENT, THE ANAESTHESIA WILL WEAR OFF AND IT MIGHT LEAD TO SORENESS AND MILD PAIN. (I felt a little sore but painkillers helped me)
    3) IF YOU ARE THINKING THAT THE NEEDLES WILL HURT, THEY WON'T (IF YOU HAVE ANAESTHESIA)
    YOU GOT THIS!

Just got my root canal and honestly I was scared about pain. I’m still numb so I dunno how I’ll feel after but the process was painless man , just the needle hurts in the beginning and they numbed the area before hitting me with the needle so yeah it’s pretty easy , anyone who’s scared it’s not bad dood it’s better than that consistent tooth pain you feel through your whole face
