I'm a historical costumer, and I think that the size of this shawl is spot on for the period, especially when you look at the source material photograph and where the edge of the shawl hits the wear and wear it hits your mannequin. Remember also that all of these finished pieces would have been blocked to show off the incredible lacework; thus, once you soak and block your shawl, it should be fantastical.
I was just watching your podcast on this vintage angora shawl. I wanted to tell you that in the early 50’s in high school Angora sweaters were the thing. I had a lovely pink one and at night I put it into a sweater bag (you can use any plastic bag) and put it in the refrigerator. In the morning when you put it on its all fluffy, the hair stands up its great. Just wanted you to know this little trick from someone who did this every time I wore it. 😊
Good morning from southcentral Kentucky, U.S.A. There is a classic pattern from 1918, the Between Meals Centerpiece”, that many, many people have made. Lots(!) of entries about it on Ravelry. Many have been done in traditional #10 in white and Ecru. Then there are the ones done in colors, both single color/BMC, and multicolor BMC’s. In every weight of thread and yarn weight. This is a timeframe that strikes a chord for me. The Titanic tragedy happened about 7 weeks before Grampa&GrammaH. married. The Titanic never came up as a topic of discussion. DH&I went on a cruise out of middle Florida to the southern Caribbean area the first week of April 2012. During the lifeboat drill before leaving port, he asked me, “Are we going to see icebergs?”
If you want to practice your bullion stitch try using a latch hook to make them. (My grandmother taught me how to make them with one) It lets you get the feel of the stitch without fighting the yarn while working through the wraps
If angora is anything like cashmere, it breaks easily, so a stronger thread is usually doubled with it while crocheting. It's absolutely gorgeous my friend!❤
Also, pairing a delicate, fuzzy fiber like angora or cashmere with a strong, smooth fiber makes it much easier to see your stitches and helps provide added stability and structure to the final project. 🙂
I can't help but think of the Shetland lace shawls when I see this, maybe that's what inspired the design. It would be interesting with a really loose stitch? Gorgeous!
I love and appreciate the intro of the video. Oh, that Angora thread/yarn is gorgeous. Beautiful shawl, I do love the pattern of this Mohair shawl. Thank you for the video🧶
That yarn is beautiful! I like how the rows kind of curve to one side. You could always do another set of the rows to make it long enough, but it's really pretty.
Sooo gorgeous! ❤ I'm thinking it being shorter could be a happy accident. You know some people may want a shorter shawl. I think it came out perfect. Beautiful job
@@beagleissleeping5359 My son has a particular keyboard that is a tactile version, so it gives him the feel of the click, but it doesn’t have that strong of the old typewriter sound that I remember learning on in high school. I’m so old😂

Lovely! A good dupe yarn might be Rowan Kidsilk Haze. It's 70% angora goat mohair, 30% silk, light fingering, so you'd still have to double it, but it has that nice halo. It's $17.85 for 229 yards per ball. I'm not affiliated with them, I was just looking at something earlier made from it and kind of fell in love with it, even if I won't be able to afford it just now. Thank you for all of the hard work you do, Corinna! Hugs (Edit: I noticed the other bag!!!! AND it's LINED!!!! Ha!)
That angora thread looks like a single (unplied...only one thread/filament) spun strand! Wow. When using angora or mohair, pair it with a lace weight nylon, silk, alpaca, or a "normal" merino for extra strength in the yarn structure if the project is intended to be worn.
Its beautiful. I think the smaller size actually makes it a little more practical to wear out. It would look great over a sleeveless dress at a nice dinner.
Loved your intro. I am always so sad when I hear about the Titanic but you have brought back such beautiful things from that tragedy. Thank you. The beauty of that era lives on. Well done. 😊
Bullion is best done by holding the hook a bit down. It is fidily but worth the work. I know what you mean, and yes, the popcorn stitch works well. But bullioon is just such delicat and beautiful stitch. Don't give up on it! You can do it, if I can.
You've outdone yourself dear! Exquisite !!! I sent this to my sister - i.e., offered to make it for her. We both LOVE it! It was a huge YES! But I told her it'll be next year. I've already made six shawls for her this year - #3 & #4 are being mailed tomorrow. I love how the popcorns look, but I plan to try to learn the buillion stitch. Have you looked back at the pattern seller's site? Your tutorial seens to have caused a lot of people to put that pattern in their cart! Another precise and clear tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! You rock!😊
Thank you for sharing this with us. I went and purchased the pattern. I love mohair yarn. I'm working on a sweater right now holding sock yarn and mohair together. I have some really beautiful soft white yarn, not sure what it is, but I think it would be lovely for this shawl.
I must make the shawl! I often go to Ragtime festival‘s at like to dress in the era and period of the music. This 1908 shawl will be perfect. Now I have to find my yarn. I’ve made the 1908 circular shawl and made it a bit bigger than what was pictured. I also used three colors in the shawl, dusty pink, dusty green, and tan with the main color being off-white.
ein unglaublich schönen Stück Geschichte, vielen Dank für deine Mühe und die ausführliche Anleitung, es war nicht immer einfach, aber das Werkstück ist mir gelungen

Her name is Handmade Rukodelky and she has a video How to crochet bullion stitch 4 righties. Super slick and quick no matter how many wraps

I Love watching your vintage tutorials. In this you have trouble with the bouillon stitch, I do as well. I was watching a freeform crochet video this morning, it was a paisley element with the bouillon stitch around it. I immediately thought of you, it was a different way of doing it. The video is from - Crochet Elena Rugal studio- How to crochet freeform element tutorial 26. I loved watching you make this shawl and when you came to a problem you solved it by doing something different. Your Awesome !
I am in the process of crocheting this beautiful shawl. I understand about the bouillon stitch!! So for me, to make it look closer to the bouillon stitch, I am using the wrap around stitch.
Oh ma’am you never cease to amaze. Appreciate the history. Appreciate your time. Storms came through and messed up our internet service so I’m trying to catch up! The fillet crochet peacock beautiful. Can’t wait to see that completed. Hope all is well 🧡
I love everything about the Titanic! I've read about it since I was in 5th grade. Anything I could find!! I love your history mystery vids. I'm so glad these styles are coming back. Thank you!!
That's totally amazing so pretty shawl and such a different way of making it, I think it's the best shawl yet, you have done amazing job and doing it the best way to using a technique way doing the popcorn instead the rounding way well done to you. I love watching your shows always get me excited 😂 notbknowing what your going to do ❤

Wow... me too have seen this on pinterest a lot and I always thought it was pretty but pick is a bit grainy so when I saw the tutorial I was excited to give it a try. Made with shawl in a ball prism with 6mm hook. Did a few mistake. Square came out bigger and I tried the continuos round and forgot that when I do this the corners swirl on me and tips are very pointy, also forgot to increase in corners for border but it works so this would work in a circle shawl too and I didn't do last 5th shell round. I am currently doing a hard block on center to make it more lacy and a bite straighter. Very pretty and adaptable border that can be made smaller and bigger. I hope to experiment later with this border, and right now I can't wait to go back to knitting.
That is beautiful. Thank you for putting in the time and money to make this. The way the shells move up one is lovely. Great work so pleasing to watch. x
It’s stunning!!! Also don’t hate me, but have you tried blocking it or steaming it out? I’m sure it’ll relax & open up quite a bit! I wanna make this for myself now 🤩🤩🤩
Sorry, me again. Bullion stitch in a fluffy yarn might be more easily worked with a longer and, unfortunately, non-ergonomic hook (such as one of those "cro-knit" hooks with no flattened thumb rest; those came out about 15-ish years ago). Also, practice 🙄. But 15 wraps is a LOT! I think last time I did bullion stitch, the doily pattern I was using called for 9. Which is STILL a lot, but not as daunting and not as annoying when I'd lose count. I love how you explain the "point" on this. Very clear and efficient, when a lot of crochet pattern terms are not.
Hi Corinna, sorry to sound like a stuck record, but, Wow! this is stunning! your yarn is soooo beautiful 😍😍 so a suggestion .. if you have the time, extra yarn and the inclination .. why not make another section of shells ?

This is wonderful. I have a cone of wool that is a lace weight. Or I could use my handspun corridale 🐑🤔 The pattern is absolutely beautiful 😍
