My 7th butterfly is out of his shell (I don’t now the right word for it in English) when I wasn’t at home and I noticed that he has some of the shell (/skin I don’t know) on his head and he tries to take it off but he can’t. What should I do? And I need to release them tomorrow because I am for two weeks not home
One little thing I wanted to add is that the skin doesn’t harden, it sheds its skin (there’s a technical word for this) 5 times before it sheds its last and inside is the chrysalis.
For everyone who's asking what to feed them, Well you can buy kits or just Identify the specie of the caterpillar.. Say, The caterpillar is Danaus chyrsippus(Plain Tiger) they feed on Milkweed leaves... So you just give them Milkweed leaves and that's all they need..
Have we not learned yet? This is the worst thing to do with butterflies. Build a garden to atract them and let mother nature do her thing...NATURALLY!. People have also been doing this wirh monarchs over the years and loom at where they are. On the endangered specie list. Dont do this. Learn about their patterns, migrations, host plants, etc and buuld a natural habitat for them. Its sooo much better for this and its awesome watching them in their natural environment. Buying them can also spread diseases. Its nothing but a money grab for companies.
