Been raising monarchs for years. It all started when did a project on raising painted lady caterpillars for my daughter 2nd grade class. Now she’s 30 & my acre lawn is a massive butterfly garden of many varieties. They are just the cutest. Have even had 30 caterpillars growing inside during the winter months. Had some even escaped & make cocoon in daughters room when she was young. Only to find her giggling one morning with her room full of butterflies 🦋. She was in heaven. :) If you have lil ones look into raising butterflies for them....
Wow! Thats a wonderful story! Thank you for helping so many butterflies ❤🦋
What kind of milkweed plant is the one with the fat leaves? Mine all has skinny leaves. The fatter leaves the more to eat.
@@charlottedavis9769 common milkweed
skinny leaves indicate swamp or tropical milkweed
How sweet story! Aw, and so rewarding! Thank you for sharing.
Caterpillar egg: **hatches**
Caterpillar: idk what i am or why im here, but i know i must eat leaf •👄•
Lol
Yesh
Your voice is so soothing. I actually was just walking around my garden listening to you talk about the caterpillars.
I forget that raising monarch caterpillars isnt a normal part of everyone's lives. My mom started raising caterpillars in her classroom when she was a teacher, but even after she retired she raises them. She has milkweed all over her yard but when its caterpillar season, the milkweed cant grow fast enough. There will be chrysalis shells all along the fence and the house. We've found copycat monarchs (queen butterflies) mixed in as well. I hope your butterflies stop by her yard in Texas as they make their way down to Mexico. Maybe we'll raise the next generation.
THATS SO COOL!! I never got to raise them before, not even in school so I was completely 100% brand new to this 😅 oneday when I buy a house I want to plant lots of native plants and milkweed. #future goals
@@CreativePetKeeping so glad you got to take part in this magical experience
@Em K yes they do. They go through 3 life cycles during migration.
Same. This brought back great memories from my kindergarten days.
her saying she’s trying not to cry
i felt that
i was literally crying too
bc you like literally raised them, they’re like your kids going off the school❤️
they’re sooo adorable and cute
Yeah i cried along with her. She is doing a beautiful and amazing thing for nature. I wish more ppl cared as much . Most ppl just use and abuse nature and we never just give back a lil. Did u ever wonder where all of your poop, pee and other gross stuff u make every day, goes? It goes into our waters and oceans and it’s killing wildlife. Our planet is dying. I don’t dare eat fish anymore . It’s too dangerous . Its not even our poop and pee that’s worst. But all the medical waste, medicines and needles and pills and poison all being thrown in oceans and our soil.
The US isn’t even the worst offender, China and all those Asian countries are the worst violators. If ppl only knew just how much poison they dump every day. Diseases and poisons and deadly chemicals. All going into our precious oceans. And they’re just now finding dead fish and animals washing up on the beaches . The governments and scientists have known for a long time. They kept it from us and covered it up.
Do u think the billionaires and powerful ppl eat the same foods we do? Heck no. They don’t even breathe the same air. They have built huge cities underground in other parts of the world where they have it stocked with food and grains to sustain life for over 100 years for a certain amount of ppl only . THERE IS A LIST. And no the list isn’t all just the rich, famous, smart and talented . No. Because they will need SLAVES. The only reason we even know about this is because some ppl talked. Many ppl have built these secret places. Do u really think they kept their mouth shut? No Of course not .
For some reason, it's so satisfying to watch them eat. It's almost like looking at fire or flowing water.
I agree. I loved watching them munch on leaves.
I liken watching a flutterby garden to watching a fish tank.
Instant and total Zennnnnnnn
Yasss
This footage is absolutely amazing of each stage. did this several years ago it’s an incredible experience.
Thank you, it was so much fun to raise them ^_^
^_^ :)

bruhh the last butterfly woke up late like "wait where my pretty butterfly friends at :("
I rescued a mother and two very small babies, they were on the hot side walk 🥵 the area they were in really wasn't a great place for them as it was in a busy city. I took them in a mason jar I had and put the plants in there til I could get them home safely. This video is great so far and thank you for posting it so in depth! Now I feel like these little dudes I have actually have a chance
This is the definition of "They Grow Up So Fast" XD
I've been raising Monarchs for 1 year now. My success rate from egg to butterfly is around 98% which is way better than the 5% chance if left untouched I read. I live in southern Cali by the ocean (Port Hueneme). There are so many amazing facts about these animals. They retain memories from being a caterpillar even though they liquify in the chrysalis. They also have navigation skills that we humans had to invent for ourselves in order to sail the ocean blue. They have it built in, the sun moves in the sky but they adjust on their trip to Mexico. They also find nectar via their ability to see ultraviolet areas of certain plants. Some butterflies are large and live 10 times longer than the others but they can't reproduce, odd right?
Hello. To make the caterpillars more comfortable, you can recreate their natural environment. The plants, in a glass with water, and add branches to climb, they like to move away to shed their skin. It is good to clean and remove their droppings, they do not like it to be in their food.
You are such a good mom for butterflies. Was it sad to see them go? What a beautiful lesson just watching their transformation. Totally awesome. You took such great care of them too. Thanks for sharing the process.
It's important to wear a respirator mask when tending your caterpillars in order to prevent mold from forming on the leaves and paper towels. Also, you can buy small cages at pet stores which are suitable for rearing caterpillars. I constructed by own cage with grates and a removable pan at the bottom. I'm presently rearing 126 Monarchs. I've already released about 40 adults into the wild.
My Husband, Daughter and I enjoyed immensely your video. We thank you so much for the love you have of God creation. He'll reward you and will take care of you in the same way you did with the little caterpillar. God bless you sweetheart.
This was absolutely beautiful. Wow this brought me so much joy.
Catterpillars are so cool like they go from Little Slug thingys to some how gaining wings and flying away
I'm so soft inside. Couldn't watch the entire video without bawling like a baby. The release tore me up!!! ❤️🦋❤️🦋❤️🦋❤️
You are so kind
the ending wrecked me. i cried so much lol! amazing video.

What leaves do you have to feed them
Thanks
You did a wonderful job showing us exactly how this process works. This is the first time I am doing this project and you have done exactly what I needed. Thank you!
I’m so happy you are saving the monarchs it makes me feel so good 😊
Aah, made me cry 🦋 you’re so sweet!
Absolutely beautiful!
This past summer I was truly blessed to be able to experience raising Monarch Butterflies for the first time.
My grandma passed away in February and she really loved Butterflies so it made the experience truely special.
We successfully raised 81 Monarch Butterflies and 36 black Eastern swallowtails.
Thank you for sharing your experience 😊
That’s absolutely amazing!! You are helping the species so much!!
Love your video! I've watched many how-tos and yours was the easiest to understand and full of joy! Have 4 so far I'm raising this season .... one new thing I learned is it's important to keep them outside or they won't have the instinct to know how/where to migrate. So I weighed my habitat down and kept it on the porch... easy peasy
Thanks for this lovely video ! So sweet, I'm a new fan!
I’ve watched many videos on the raising butterflies and this is one of the best! I have 10 Monarchs I’m raising and look forward to releasing them soon ❤️
I have raised 6 monarchs from Caterpillar to butterfly, and released them once they were ready. It was an absolutely amazing opportunity, and will do it again! I have learnt so much from the experience, and they are amazing and beautiful creatures!
Thank you for this video! I just found caterpillars in the garden and I want to bring them in so my kids can watch them transform! We're so excited!
Didn't expect to tear up a little. Remind me of that butterfree Pokémon episode
The day we were going to release them Daniel was talking about that Pokemon episode actually. I was going to include a clip at the end of the video but wasn't sure if Nintendo would copyright strike me.
@@CreativePetKeeping I think Pokémon was responsible for great part of my love for animals. I love your passion for pet keeping. You guys got a new subscriber : )
ah yes
omg so emotional, love it 😂 cant wait to start my butterfly garden
Great video, thank you. I love your emotional attachment to them.
So well done! I have been raising monarchs for several months now and in love with them. Thank you for your video!

Yesterday I had one of my monarch caterpillars form its chrysalis right in my hand! It was amazing and so cool to experience 🐛🦋💜
Hitting me in the feels. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful.
And so did I .. 😅😅😅
Oh wow this makes me so happy thank you 🙏
Yes ! I’m gonna try it out too ❤thank you 😍
Amazing!!! Well Done!
It looked super easy. Thanks so very much for posting this. I've been busy removing invasives and planting a wildlife yard. I'll be putting in my first crop of milkweed and wildflowers this spring and it's great to see that I can take this next step with little risk of failure and very little investment. I want to bring some caterpillars in since my bird population is getting pretty big, too.
This is a great vid, we have done this for only 2 years so far, but what an amazing time we have had!!
Oh my gosh, best video ever! Thanks!

A beautiful job! I love this video. Thank you.
Found my first monarch a few weeks ago in my new seaside garden.I had lived inland, bought milkweed seeds online to grow to attract them, took the one plant that survived fires with me, so I will have food for any caterpillars.Monarchs only made it to Australia in the late 1880s. Glad they are here.
Thank you, you have so inspired me ❤️
I just built an area in my backyard for all types of milkweed. I already have 2 monarch caterpillars on my first plant. So cool!
Aweee that’s wonderful ❤❤❤
I planted only one milkweed plant and this morning I found 2 monarch caterpillars on it. You are right-it's so cool!
Such a beautiful video. And you are just darling. Thank you. 🦋🦋🦋

Inspirational!!
Such a great job! I thought this was SO cool. I want to experience raising them. Its important to help all living things.
Thank you and I agree. We need to help our local wildlife. Next year I would love to do this again and maybe try to help other local butterfly species as well. Im thinking of printing a flyer to post on my apartment building door that might let people know about planting local plants on their balcony.
From a person who doesn't know much about caterpillars (insects overall)...THIS IS SO COOL
