Ohh the reason why your isos dont curl up is because the species you have is a porcellio species, if you have armadilidium species they will curl up into a ball. Hope this helps
I keep isopods as pets. I also have a couple little milipedes with them. And somehow one slug... Idk how I made my own substrate but yeah you inspired me to do that
Woodlice can bite, but they have little jaw strength and don't even come close to breaking or even hurting the skin. They mostly go to taste you since they really enjoy protein, just think of it as isopod kisses!
I’m actually making a bioactive terrarium for my crested gecko and I’m trying to order bugs (silk worms, earth worms, moths, spring tails, ferns, vines, etc) live plants that will form coexisting ecosystems, I think he’s going to be very happy as he’s going to get something very close to being in the wild!
Including the bob the drag queen clip automatically made this video 1000% that much better 😂 anyways just wanted to thank you and all your dedication to these videos. I’ve now got 2 leos and 1 juvenile crestie! You’ve taught me so much and i wanted to thank you for giving me the confidence and knowledge to be able to care for these beautiful babies 🙏👏🏻👏🏻 literally love EVERY video, keep it up ❤️❤️
Today I found a wild orange woodlouse in the UK, I was absolutely amazed, it was in a rural area so most likely not released and there was loads of normal coloured ones with it!!!
I love isopods! I have approximately 15 morphs comprised of four different species. Some of the Spanish and Asiatic isopods can be quite expensive, like 10 to 20 US dollars each!
I'm thinking of getting myself a leopard gecko but I'm doing research of the best way I can take care of one and where I should buy one... All that good stuff, I don't know where the best website or place is to buy them. I know pet stores are no go's
Eunice I got my Leo last Thursday! The best way I researched before was by this channel! It’s so useful & basically has videos on everything you need to know, try looking for a breeder. It’s your best option, good luck
Eunice watch everyone of Lepoard Gecko videos! You will learn everything you need to know. 1 yr ago I knew nothing, but by watching her videos I'm happy to say I have a healthy Lepoard Gecko and know ALOT more than what I did 8 months ago . I got B'ela as a Love gift 8 months ago. @Leopardgeckoyoutube
Wait for a repticon near you or a reptile convention. Go on the conventions website and see if leopard gecko breeders will be there and visit those breeders' websites. If you like what you see you can go to the reptile convention for a small fee and buy one there. I did this for mine some years back and he's healthy and the breeders were reputable. Reptile conventions also have all sorts of tanks, insects, and accessories your gecko might like. Ofc you should have the tank ready before you get the gecko tho
Hi Rebecca and Lyra I enjoyed Mum's video so much!- My Leopard Gecko B'ela Stitch ( not shedding time) and ( not I'll) has not been eating. The little bugger. I been getting ( NO REPLY NEEDED ) ber mealworms , waxy worms for treats only, and yet still after NO eatting for a week and a half me trying to feed her every night, my 21 yr old Grandson bought B'ela 20 medium size crickets I dusted in the bag and when I returned my grandson had Placed the crickets in her aquarium. Oh my gosh she was running around eatting them faster than ever. All that remains is 2 crickets that are speaking out of a hole in the side of the background rocks I can't get to them. I am sure miss spoiled lady of 1 yrs old will eat them today.. At least I'll know she's not going to starve. MY SPOILLED. BABY, !
Do you need a cleaning crew? What if you just clean the cage itself? Is like a cleaning crew a you-must-have-for-leopard-geckos So do I need a clean up crew?
Hello, i was wondering if you had some advise for me. My crested gecko has a laceration on his back. It doesn't appear to be too deep and isn't actively bleeding. Ir appears the skin is just torn. He is moving fine and drinking too. Do you have any advise for the wound care. I currently have him in his enclosure with no substrate and a damp towel down on the bottom with his water dish and a hut to hide in.
I would love to do a bioactive tank for my crestie, but I'm nervous about the cleanup crew. For the most part, bugs don't bother me, isopods I'm pretty good with, but it's the super tiny bugs that really freak me out. The room my crestie is in has a lot of plants and it's not insanely humid, but it's like decently humid. If they got out, and managed to survive, could they become a problem/infestation? And does the tank start to overpopulate with the springtails and isopods? If it does, what do you do about it? And one last question, how common is it for spiders to move in and how can I prevent that? Sorry I have so many questions lol, I'm doing lots of research on all this but im still confused about a lot of things. and we already had tons of grain mites from our mealworms and I wouldn't want to bring more bugs in and have something similar happen that would make my parents upset.
Leopard Gecko these are some of the available but rarely species that we can buy in the US. captiveisopoda.com/collections/all?sort_by=price-descending
Can you give me tips on setting up a leopard gecko terrarium? I have a ten gallon tank, and I use a heat mat for heating. I have two hiding places and use artificial plants. The substrate is reptile carpet. I also added a few rocks for climbing. Is this good enough? What else would you suggest adding in?
Hey, im getting a leo in about a month. can i use wildly caught woodlice- but the second generation? So ill breed them and only use the young ones- to eliminate the chance of parasites
I have isopods & springtails in my crested gecko tank & I threw some dried food into the soil for them to eat but it grew mold pretty quickly. The clean up crew seems to love it but is it harmful to my gecko? I’ve been trying to bury the mold so the gecko can’t get to it but it keeps popping up again
I have a wild caught common European toad (i didn't just take her because I wanted her, she was very ill and now blind in one eye and missing a nostril so can't go back outside) I think it would probably be fine to get a clean up crew from my garden considering she lived in it just 6 months ago, but I'd like some other opinions.
Do crested geckos prefer a certain variety of isopod over the other? Been thinking about them as an irragation crew but not sure what size for an 18x18
I kept a pet slug with a house spider, they lived together. I fed the slug no vegetation and I fed the spider a worm, the slug climbed onto the spiders web and ate half of it. I feel really bad.. (I release the slug in the wild part of my garden)
Hi, I just got my first crested gecko like last week and on the third day he shed, but there is a tiny little piece of shed still stuck on his "eyelash" and I have no idea how to get it, because I do not want to hurt him.
Jobert Rolly if it’s just on the eyelash i wouldn’t worry too much. it seems quite minor. if you MUST get it off for peace of mind however, stroke the area with a moist q-tip
So ive had my gecko for about 2 months now i take very good care of him but all the sudden hes becoming to be more on the grumpy side any suggestions? Its like he dont wanna be handled anymore and believe me i give him space cause i understand hes a reptile anything will help thank you !!!
Hi i have a question do you use bottled water or purified water i think there the same i just want to be sure and do you really have to put a uvb light in the tank and where can i get eco earth online and when do you have to clean your geckos cage and disinfect. I am getting a leopard gecko maybe over 2 years i just really want to be sure and i am watching your videos every day for research until i get one i love your videos and subscribed😘🖒🖒
So i can put a uvb light in but like leopard gecko said you leave it on for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the night but when they are little a dont need to only if they are older like one years or so i but like if they ar'nt used to it for 30 mintes in morning and night so not when there little anyway thank you im doing as much reaserch as possible 🖒🖒
Tyna Botha it doesn’t matter how old they are. You can have the UVB on for 8 hours to make sure they don’t under dose. Use a 2-5% tube light (Arcadia, Zoo med, or Exo Terra), and don’t use any d3 with the light :)
I have a quick question. I have two geckos (they live in separate cages) they've mostly just eaten mealworms and crickets their entire life. I just bought some super worms to feed them and I'm scared to give them to them cause they are so massive! My geckos are about 9 months each, but one is quite a bit bigger than the other. So I'm wondering if I have to chop off their heads(eeeew) or if it's okay just to give them to the geckos whole???
Miss Green I’ve never had a problem with leaving their heads on, but it’s probably best to chop them off or at least crush their pinchers. Make sure they’re no bigger than the space between their eyes :)
SharkBAIT RUDY my friend has both and he said “Leo’s are easy to take care of but they don’t really do anything, they cool sometimes though...cresties are really fun”
We got our crestie at about 6 weeks and he was a bit jumpy and extremely easy to tame. He's so adorable and docile I take him to the grocery store, pharmacy or out to visit friends. Well depending on weather and not in covid times of course. But yeah we go to the pharmacy and they're asking where Meat Loaf is lol. No experience with leopard geckos though.
Can I use wood lice/a clean up crew in a (not natural) leopard gecko tank? I'm planing on making it natural after I find a good safe place to get reptile safe plants
The benefit of using wild caught clean up crew is that if they do escape they are indigenous and not invasive, this factor shouldn't be overlooked imo.
Ella Hackett I would recommend it, because say if a plant dies or if its foliage comes off, they’ll eat it all up. But if you’re talking about a closed terrarium then you definitely need some sort of bug or anything that takes in oxygen and releases c02. Hope this helps!
kataratify I think they’re Porcellionides pruinosus, or floria. I have calico scaber as well, and the normally colored males don’t show the powdery exterior
possibly, it depends. If the tips of the toes dropped off because of multiple unsuccessful sheds then no, and if he had none at all this may mean hes lots the tips of his toes. If its just the nails then they should grow back.
No they do not regenerate nails, just tails. He probably got stuck shed around the toes, circulation was cut off and they fell off. It will just make it hard for him to climb and grip the substrate but it is nothing major. Sorry but he will not grow those back.
You can keep and feed from your master cultures of WC woodlouse and isopods.....IF....you are certain that they are at least a couple years from when you started them off ....after a while your WC will become CB.
Hello, people. This is a greatly debated topic and I know it has nothing to do with the video but I just want to help people decide their heating situation. They do not need a heat mat but they do need belly heat. Overhead heat with sand mats are fine because a sand mat has rocks that heat up like in the wild, it helps my leopard gecko with digestion and I felt the warm rocks on the mat myself. People say use a heatmat to substitute for sum heating rocks in the wild, this is no substitution with the sand mat. Btw of you’re worried that lighting is a bad problem, you probably use some half log hide or hide that isn’t dark anyways so you’d have yourself to blame. Hope I helped a lot of lizard owners, not just gecko owners! Have a great day ppl and make sure your pets have one to!
Please read this I have a leopord gecko he is less then a year I Pretty sure he's pretty big I think and he has a 10 gallion tank and I think I should get him a bigger cage do you think I should get one for him I think I will but I would be nice to have a nother opinion
My jevunile gecko is in a 10 gal now but what I’m gonna do is move him to a bigger tank in a few months for my birthday. You can, but I wouldn’t recommend, keeping them in a 10 gal their whole life.
Help please! My crickets which I got home yesterday for my new crestie (malachite) have been overrun by wild ants! I don’t know if they’ll have introduced illness / disease / parasites to my crickets so am reticent to feed crickets to malachite, they’re small brown crickets non native-how can I dispose of them?! Thank you
If you bought them from a shop i'd take them back to them and let them deal with it. Yeah I wouldnt feed them to your gecko. I'm not 100% sure what to suggest though :/
Leopard Gecko thank you so much for answering me! Unfortunately I bought them from an online company-may be worth emailing them to see what they suggest!
This is obviously an old video and you've prob updated your care by now. But I'd recommend not keeping Isopods so damp, a lot of them don't like their whole tub damp. Just dampening down the moss every couple days or so is sufficient. Also they need loads of leaf litter as that makes up most of their diet along with rotting wood and they could really use more/bigger hides, cork bark is great. P.laevis, the orange ones you have, are not great as cleanup crews as they can chew on your animals as they are VERY protein forward. If you wanted more info I'd recommend checking out Aquarimax Pets on RUclips, he's great! Not sure if you still have these, but just wanted to say incase.
I love rollie pollies!😄❤
haha they're strangely cute :)
LOL, that's what I can breed right now! xDxD
hi I was wondering if you could help me. I just got a crested gecko can they pass on mange. like can they catch it from a human and pass it on?
Me too
Leopard Gecko Try feeding them fruit or leaf litter and wood soaked in water. THEY adore fish food!!!
I might be too excited about bugs
Squishy Mooney // Me too mate.
same haha
Same
Ohh the reason why your isos dont curl up is because the species you have is a porcellio species, if you have armadilidium species they will curl up into a ball. Hope this helps
thanks :) yeah when i was researching them they had the same 'look' as the pill bugs that curl up, i think its their curled bulky body haha
Lew Paul I think the grey ones are porcellionides sp. (looks like pruinosus but there’s no surefire way to tell)
Sow bugs have different antenna, slightly different legs, and don’t curl into tight balls. Pill bugs do curl into balls.^^
Leopard Gecko would the isopod still be able to function on eco earth or do i need a more nutritious soil
I keep 4 species of isopods currently! They’re awesome cleaners and wonderful pets.

Nice. I’ve been collecting species to use in my enclosures. :)
nice :)
Porcellionides Pruinosus “powder blue” (your grey ones) are crazy. They breed so much. I have both the wild morph and orange morph and they are crazy.

MY SPOILLED. BABY, !
oh my goodness lol, well that's a lot for a leo, but atleast shes eating now :)
So would this be okay if I put a clean up crew in my Leo tank
Do these guys escape wooden enclosures? How do you prevent if they do?
Kudos for speaking responsibly about managing breeding numbers, realistically, and not releasing non-natives into natural environment. ♡
I LOVE GECKOS SO MUCH OMG I'M SCREMING THESE GECKOS ARE SO CUTE OMG AAAAAAAAA
This video was amazing. Ive been hoping to see the wood lice again
They are my favorite animals of yours

haha ah awesome :)

giant orange woodlice are supposedly found in the uk i read on many sites....

Ryan K Win he has a water dish right? I recommend eco earth :)
Fiona Shepley Yes he has a water dish. I will try eco earth. Thanks!
She made videos about this
Your terrariums are all so beautiful!
aw thank you :)
Hey, im getting a leo in about a month. can i use wildly caught woodlice- but the second generation? So ill breed them and only use the young ones- to eliminate the chance of parasites
👏Bug Review👏
Very Informative ... Thank you!
if you have the "cleanup crew" do you still clean the tank?
I have isopods & springtails in my crested gecko tank & I threw some dried food into the soil for them to eat but it grew mold pretty quickly. The clean up crew seems to love it but is it harmful to my gecko? I’ve been trying to bury the mold so the gecko can’t get to it but it keeps popping up again
I may sound dumb but would you need to change you're substrate I have never used a clean up Crew
I dont think so lol, I dont really notice Lyra interacting with them much.
Hi, how can you handle the crickets? U.K. large spiders don't mind them can deal with them. Diane Southampton U.K.
haha it takes some getting used to. If you look in my feeder insect playlist I must have a few videos of handling them :)
I kept a pet slug with a house spider, they lived together. I fed the slug no vegetation and I fed the spider a worm, the slug climbed onto the spiders web and ate half of it. I feel really bad..
(I release the slug in the wild part of my garden)
do you keep different types of isopods together
Yees she does, Ik I’m not leopard gecko but she hasn’t replied so...
Thanks Bowser
Roger and Vicki Weeks Tarantula's no problem man
Hi, I just got my first crested gecko like last week and on the third day he shed, but there is a tiny little piece of shed still stuck on his "eyelash" and I have no idea how to get it, because I do not want to hurt him.
I just got my gecko a week ago mine is about to shed to
Jobert Rolly if it’s just on the eyelash i wouldn’t worry too much. it seems quite minor. if you MUST get it off for peace of mind however, stroke the area with a moist q-tip
Jobert Rolly you can put some warm water on a qtip and try to help get it off
if you quarantined wild caught ones is it possible they'd be fine after a while of breeding?
So ive had my gecko for about 2 months now i take very good care of him but all the sudden hes becoming to be more on the grumpy side any suggestions? Its like he dont wanna be handled anymore and believe me i give him space cause i understand hes a reptile anything will help thank you !!!
Maybe he's just a big grumpy or in shed?
Lyra loves you :-)
Hi i have a question do you use bottled water or purified water i think there the same i just want to be sure and do you really have to put a uvb light in the tank and where can i get eco earth online and when do you have to clean your geckos cage and disinfect. I am getting a leopard gecko maybe over 2 years i just really want to be sure and i am watching your videos every day for research until i get one i love your videos and subscribed😘🖒🖒
Tyna Botha use spring water or tap water left out for 24 hours. You don’t need UVB but it’s very beneficial :)
Fiona Shepley thank you🖒🖒🖒🖒
So if i dont have a light i should give them d3 vitamins but leopard gecko said 30 minutes and through the months until 2 hours
Tis be ISOPOD HOUR!!!
Learn something new everyday.👍
Thinking of doing this for my carpet python enclosure. Think this would work?
I fed one to my leopard gecko he got so excited
haha ive never actually tried that, i think ive become too attached lol
Leopard Gecko lol
What do you enjoy keeping more, leopard geckos or crested geckos? Im curious to know and hope i can get an answer 😜
SharkBAIT RUDY my friend has both and he said “Leo’s are easy to take care of but they don’t really do anything, they cool sometimes though...cresties are really fun”
Mustard Cat that’s y i got a crestie
The Lightning Cuber how easy is a crested gecko to tame though?
@@user-yn1bd4yf3h very easy.
I love your videos!!!!
thanks! :)
Can I use wood lice/a clean up crew in a (not natural) leopard gecko tank? I'm planing on making it natural after I find a good safe place to get reptile safe plants
Sara Crawford once it’s natural, yes
Where can i buy some
wait do they need live plants or no
The benefit of using wild caught clean up crew is that if they do escape they are indigenous and not invasive, this factor shouldn't be overlooked imo.
You can also buy a captive bred species native to your area
Do you need a clean up crew for a natural terrarium?
Ella Hackett I would recommend it, because say if a plant dies or if its foliage comes off, they’ll eat it all up.
But if you’re talking about a closed terrarium then you definitely need some sort of bug or anything that takes in oxygen and releases c02.
Hope this helps!
Are the blue ones P. scaber? I have some calico ones but they don’t seem nearly as active as yours...
kataratify I think they’re Porcellionides pruinosus, or floria. I have calico scaber as well, and the normally colored males don’t show the powdery exterior
Random question, what size is your leopard geckos tank?
Can u house a female crested gecko with a fale chahoa in a 40 gallon
Where did you get your chahoua from ??
I got a new leoord gecko and he has no Nails will they grow back
possibly, it depends.
Sorry but he will not grow those back.
i dont think so my blue tongue skink is missing one since i got him 6 months later it still is gone
he has lost his nails they'll probably grow back. if he has lost his toe tips they will not.
Love your videos
thank you :)
Woodlice kinda creep me out. Idk why. Can I just have Springtails as the clean up crew or is it better to have different types?
Becca B you can just have spring tails. You can also use mealworms/superworms and their beetles :)
Fiona Shepley thanks
I love your videos keep it up !
thank you :)
I have about ten in my inclosure, will they last?
Could clean up crews live in reptibark and no LED light and only window light?
Corrupt it’s best to have a mix of substrates or a bioactive mix from the store
Do you think you have too many bugs in your tank?
Where did you get your wooden enclosures from?
What do you feed yor isopods?
What kind of worms are those?
*_isopod hour_*
Are wild rollie pollies better or wild millipedes better Leopard Gecko. Sorry, I forgot your name.
Andrew Chen nothing from the wild. Isopods are great for a clean up crew
The best reptile shop/bug shops here down in Melbourne don't even have Dubia Roaches
Andrew Chen could get them online
I'm not allowed to buy them off online, and my parents won't allow them even though their *good* bugs
Can you put isopods in a tank with a leopard gecko or is it just for crested geckos?.
Halee Matherne they can go with leos
Fiona Shepley thank you :)
Real isopod hours
Love your videos😊
thanks!
Nice video! What pet shop would you recommend to buy my leopard gecko?
Player 2421 a local breeder, expo, or adoption may be a better option :)
Thanks.
Will they eat calcium
You can keep and feed from your master cultures of WC woodlouse and isopods.....IF....you are certain that they are at least a couple years from when you started them off ....after a while your WC will become CB.
I never thought of having bug with my leopard gecko named king.g

Hope I helped a lot of lizard owners, not just gecko owners! Have a great day ppl and make sure your pets have one to!
Anime Overlord heat mats are both cheaper and better for them. That’s not the best substrate anyway as they can’t dig in it.
Will the leopard geckos eat the clean up crew insects?
Would isopods / pill bugs do well in a garden
How do you keep the population of the clean up crew down ?
Please read this
I have a leopord gecko he is less then a year I Pretty sure he's pretty big I think and he has a 10 gallion tank and I think I should get him a bigger cage do you think I should get one for him I think I will but I would be nice to have a nother opinion
a 10 gallon is fine but if you can give him a 20 long or 40 breeder as long as he has enough hides and wont get lost
My jevunile gecko is in a 10 gal now but what I’m gonna do is move him to a bigger tank in a few months for my birthday. You can, but I wouldn’t recommend, keeping them in a 10 gal their whole life.
Are woodlouse/woodlice the things we find in our basements?
Or are those something else
Silenceh _ depends? Do they look like this?
Rollie Pollies 101 yeah kinda
Rollie Pollies 101 a bit light tho
Silenceh _ mmm I’m not sure then...
do they help with mold?
leopard gecko do they grow big I've seen pictures. How long could you keep them in the geckos enclosure before they grow too big.
Giselle Torres I don’t think they get any bigger than that
Giselle Torres those are a different kind of isopod
haha I remember keeping woodlice and snails as pets!
haha the good old days :')
Thank you
Sarah Nash I’ve seen you on the reptile Amino!

If you bought them from a shop i'd take them back to them and let them deal with it. Yeah I wouldnt feed them to your gecko. I'm not 100% sure what to suggest though :/
Leopard Gecko thank you so much for answering me! Unfortunately I bought them from an online company-may be worth emailing them to see what they suggest!
pls make more videos about the small creatures!!
will do :)
Giant isopods don't make it in my vivs. I'm not sure if this is due to predation by the crested.
Dwarf species breed prolifically for me.
Can I have a clean up crew without live plants?
great info.
thanks :)
Is it just me or have u realised after almost every sentence she take such a deep breath
Wat are the springtails for ☺
Those centipedes killed my adult woodlouse even the baby centipedes did i literally watched it eating one
is it safe for the cresties to eat the cleanup crew??
Melody yes, as long as they aren’t wild
