    Ohh the reason why your isos dont curl up is because the species you have is a porcellio species, if you have armadilidium species they will curl up into a ball. Hope this helps

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  6 лет назад +6

      thanks :) yeah when i was researching them they had the same 'look' as the pill bugs that curl up, i think its their curled bulky body haha

      Lew Paul I think the grey ones are porcellionides sp. (looks like pruinosus but there’s no surefire way to tell)

      Sow bugs have different antenna, slightly different legs, and don’t curl into tight balls. Pill bugs do curl into balls.^^

    Giant isopods don't make it in my vivs. I'm not sure if this is due to predation by the crested.
    Dwarf species breed prolifically for me.

    Woodlice can bite, but they have little jaw strength and don't even come close to breaking or even hurting the skin. They mostly go to taste you since they really enjoy protein, just think of it as isopod kisses!

    I’m actually making a bioactive terrarium for my crested gecko and I’m trying to order bugs (silk worms, earth worms, moths, spring tails, ferns, vines, etc) live plants that will form coexisting ecosystems, I think he’s going to be very happy as he’s going to get something very close to being in the wild!

      Wait for a repticon near you or a reptile convention. Go on the conventions website and see if leopard gecko breeders will be there and visit those breeders' websites. If you like what you see you can go to the reptile convention for a small fee and buy one there. I did this for mine some years back and he's healthy and the breeders were reputable. Reptile conventions also have all sorts of tanks, insects, and accessories your gecko might like. Ofc you should have the tank ready before you get the gecko tho

Well depending on weather and not in covid times of course. But yeah we go to the pharmacy and they're asking where Meat Loaf is lol. No experience with leopard geckos though.

  • @Medusii
    @Medusii 2 года назад

    This is obviously an old video and you've prob updated your care by now. But I'd recommend not keeping Isopods so damp, a lot of them don't like their whole tub damp. Just dampening down the moss every couple days or so is sufficient. Also they need loads of leaf litter as that makes up most of their diet along with rotting wood and they could really use more/bigger hides, cork bark is great. P.laevis, the orange ones you have, are not great as cleanup crews as they can chew on your animals as they are VERY protein forward. If you wanted more info I'd recommend checking out Aquarimax Pets on RUclips, he's great! Not sure if you still have these, but just wanted to say incase.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  6 лет назад

      possibly, it depends. If the tips of the toes dropped off because of multiple unsuccessful sheds then no, and if he had none at all this may mean hes lots the tips of his toes. If its just the nails then they should grow back.

    • @subscribealready3031
      @subscribealready3031 6 лет назад

      No they do not regenerate nails, just tails. He probably got stuck shed around the toes, circulation was cut off and they fell off. It will just make it hard for him to climb and grip the substrate but it is nothing major. Sorry but he will not grow those back.

    Hello, people. This is a greatly debated topic and I know it has nothing to do with the video but I just want to help people decide their heating situation. They do not need a heat mat but they do need belly heat. Overhead heat with sand mats are fine because a sand mat has rocks that heat up like in the wild, it helps my leopard gecko with digestion and I felt the warm rocks on the mat myself. People say use a heatmat to substitute for sum heating rocks in the wild, this is no substitution with the sand mat. Btw of you’re worried that lighting is a bad problem, you probably use some half log hide or hide that isn’t dark anyways so you’d have yourself to blame. Hope I helped a lot of lizard owners, not just gecko owners! Have a great day ppl and make sure your pets have one to!

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 6 лет назад

      Anime Overlord heat mats are both cheaper and better for them. That’s not the best substrate anyway as they can’t dig in it.

    I would love to do a bioactive tank for my crestie, but I'm nervous about the cleanup crew. For the most part, bugs don't bother me, isopods I'm pretty good with, but it's the super tiny bugs that really freak me out. The room my crestie is in has a lot of plants and it's not insanely humid, but it's like decently humid. If they got out, and managed to survive, could they become a problem/infestation? And does the tank start to overpopulate with the springtails and isopods? If it does, what do you do about it? And one last question, how common is it for spiders to move in and how can I prevent that? Sorry I have so many questions lol, I'm doing lots of research on all this but im still confused about a lot of things. and we already had tons of grain mites from our mealworms and I wouldn't want to bring more bugs in and have something similar happen that would make my parents upset.

      Ella Hackett I would recommend it, because say if a plant dies or if its foliage comes off, they’ll eat it all up.
      But if you’re talking about a closed terrarium then you definitely need some sort of bug or anything that takes in oxygen and releases c02.
      Hope this helps!

      Sara Crawford they’re not millipedes*, they’re crustaceans. Millipedes have far more legs.

    Do the geckos ever snack on them?

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 6 лет назад

      Fenu S yes, there would be some that get eaten that's why it's a good idea to breed them or purchase a lot just in case but not too many. The gecko will eat them no matter how hard you try to prevent it, for the most part if they can't find the bugs they won't be able to eat them.

    Can you put isopods in a tank with a leopard gecko or is it just for crested geckos?.

    Can you give me tips on setting up a leopard gecko terrarium? I have a ten gallon tank, and I use a heat mat for heating. I have two hiding places and use artificial plants. The substrate is reptile carpet. I also added a few rocks for climbing. Is this good enough? What else would you suggest adding in?

    Hi Rebecca and Lyra I enjoyed Mum's video so much!- My Leopard Gecko B'ela Stitch ( not shedding time) and ( not I'll) has not been eating. The little bugger. I been getting ( NO REPLY NEEDED ) ber mealworms , waxy worms for treats only, and yet still after NO eatting for a week and a half me trying to feed her every night, my 21 yr old Grandson bought B'ela 20 medium size crickets I dusted in the bag and when I returned my grandson had Placed the crickets in her aquarium. Oh my gosh she was running around eatting them faster than ever. All that remains is 2 crickets that are speaking out of a hole in the side of the background rocks I can't get to them. I am sure miss spoiled lady of 1 yrs old will eat them today.. At least I'll know she's not going to starve.
    MY SPOILLED. BABY, !
