The arm and leg swap was the key for me to learn it. My right arm was much better than my left for a long time but eventually they evened out. Thanks for the content!
It’s very deflating to go through a season of practice to have a disqualification based on this turn. Even when the turn is performed perfectly there have been instances of officials here in Australia interpreting the rules in funky ways and it’s just too expensive and difficult to protest their decisions. It makes me reluctant to coach it for the small advantage that it achieves over a results open turn.
That would be fair if you aren't sure about the officiating. The best way to ensure you don't DQ would be to keep the eyes up before touching (so they can't say you crossed to your stomach) - good luck!
@theraceclub my daughter is 12 and has been DQ when I have her on video and you can see clearly she didn't rotate to belly before hand touched (in the US)
I have been doing the bucket turn but my new coach says that I must do the turn. We did a relay of back to breast today and I accidentally got our team a 5 second penalty because i did a bucket turn.
Meh, the bucket turn is a staple in the IM. The only reason why people get dq'd is if they're not used to it. Practice makes perfect but at the end of the day so long as the wall is touched while the swimmer is on their back (doesn't have to be flat, as the rotational aspect of backstroke demands rotation of the swimmer) and the finger nails are pointed down upon contact with the wall then it's legal and correct.
I feel like she turned a little bit early and from the angle it kinda looked like her head was a little too far underwater before she flipped which results in a disqualification so try to make it clear you’re flipping after you touch the wall and keep half your head above the water before you flip and touch the wall so you won’t get disqualified.
Good point! She was still learning in this clip. I like to teach "eyes on the sky"... if the official can see your face, they're less likely to think you over-rotated!
@@theraceclubshe pushed off completely on her back and would have gotten DQ'd for sure; after your feet leave the wall you need to be either perpendicular to the floor or facing it.

Practice makes perfect - thanks for watching!
Slow mo, vocal coaching and captioning is great. Going to try this at next swim
Thanks for the feedback - good luck!

You can always teach a spin turn as well

I just do the bucket turn. It is barely slower and it is safer.
My son (12) did this in his IM this past weekend! I didn't know he'd been practicing it.
good for him! It is the fastest way to transition in the IM.

I do a horizontal turn instead of the vertical ones
As in the legs coming more around the side?
The best crossover turn tutorial I've seen that does horizontal vs. vertical is Chloe Sutton's ruclips.net/video/Ko5-T5eqwYk/видео.html
This turn will be perfect for beginners who doubt their turn from back to back. Using this during IM will definitely lead to disqualification.
Only if you do it wrong.
Very easy to get dq ed.

I actually learned this because I was DQed for the typical open turn

👍👍
i got DQ today because of messing up my bucket turn for IM
Try to learn a crossover turn. We have a 5 step tutorial video on our website (Lane 3 membership) to help you learn how. www.theraceclub.com
DQ if u did that in a race
Not sure if it would've been but definitely close... it would all be happening much quicker in a race!

Looks a DQ for this Angle
It's close! Good thing it's only practice. Practice makes perfect!
이렇게 싑게 하는건 쉽게 가르치는 덕분이겠지
Have you tried it before?

yeah and got disqualified
Happens all the time! Fast isn't always safe... keep working on the timing of the roll to the stomach!

Not a DQ! After the hand touches the wall, she can flip to the stomach BUT NOT BEFORE.
But I do see where you're coming from, this particular clip/angle could be up for debate!
