- I interviewed the late Jonathan Brandis three times between 1992 and 1995. Here are portions of two interviews for his TV series, "SeaQuest DSV" and one for the Rodney Dangerfield film, "Ladybugs." Topics covered include the start of his career, the challenges of doing "SeaQuest," being a teen sex symbol, and working with Dangerfield.

He is so respectful when he talks
comes across as very astute and wise (especially for a teen)
More manners than gentleman’s nowadays
My thoughts exactly. I also don’t think he was mentally ill.
@@andrewmontgomery8428 oh right, not mentally ill? He hung himself, that's ill
his laugh is what keeps me going, i will always admire him for his hard work. such a talented angel. :’)
🥰🥰🥰
So intelligent, how he answered the questions on Ladybugs, such a loss to Hollywood.
I wish he never died 💔 he was such an amazing actor and kind guy..
We all here feel the same. Rip
Sweet, gorgeous man. But you can see the pain in his eyes. Rest in peace. I remember the day you died. I cried my eyes out.
I'm shocked it was suicide wtf.. Than a year later Rodney dies from surgery???😢
I don’t think he had pain in his eyes at this moment ?? He was happy doing what he loved ... to my knowledge he commuted
su!c!de because he couldn’t get anymore roles as a actor , he looks about 18-19 right here and he didn’t do it until he was about 27 right ? So he was still acting during this time
@@Ok-yv7nx It was my subjective opinion. 🤷🏼♀️🙂
So did i😢😢
The beginning of the 1995 interview is sad because the episode he had said he was working on didn't happen because the show got canceled. The episode was something he was really looking forward to.
I met Jonathan shortly before he passed away. He was such an amazing guy. He's still sorely missed.
How was your meeting?
@@euniceserrano6499 It was great. We talked about him wanting to write & direct. Jon was one of the good ones.
@@shahartley Thank you so much for sharing this experience. You're lucky to have crossed paths with him. I wish I had😊
To this day I don't understand why he hanged himself, there were so many women who were fans of him
@@sigridbohne He had bipolar disorder, but it went undiagnosed. He didn't get the help he needed years before, which was back in the 90's. People only realized he was bipolar after he took his own life.
RIP
Jonathan Brandis
(1976-2003)
You can tell he was really special. Such people are always gone too soon.
Wow it's hard to believe how broken he became when he sounds like he had a strong personality . Wish he wasn't so hard on himself and could have gotten through his dark times . RIP Jonathan those who grew up with you will always keep you in out thoughts prayers and memories.
Depression is often a hidden disease. The people who have it tend to hide it.
He is so beautiful I miss him so much and his voice is so dreamy I wish he was here with us RIP to my HANDSOME MAN he was literally perfect!! ❤ 😭
Loved him in "Sidekicks" (With Chuck Norris). Crazy to think johnathan has been gone for almost 20 yrs, yet Chuck is still with us at 82yrs old. Depression is no joke. Its hard to see people around you prospering while you struggle to get by. But circumstances can always change and life is too precious.
Can you imagine being this dude and walking the halls of your high school? His passing is such a tragedy.
His voice is so deep
Jonathan was so cute and adorable such a great smile and laughter
You can see the change of how he went from super happy and ok to not OK and in pain..
I will always love him
He was emotionally intelligent.
Omg yes. I just saw him in a video and I was like "why am I so attracted to him? A lot of people look good but what's different about him?" And now I get it. It's that emotional intelligence that stands out uk...
Brandis had such a great smile and being an "old soul" made him seem much older. A double-edged sword. Rest in peace.🎉
I still find it so strange that he is gone and that it's been 20 years this year. He was quite prolific for teen audiences in the late 90s and early 2000s and was always in teen magazines etc. He died and there wasn't much coverage surrounding his passing. It took me over a month to even find out about it.
I remember his death was reported in periodicals like _Variety,_ _People,_ _Us,_ _The Hollywood Reporter,_ _Entertainment Weekly,_ etc. and in programs such as _Entertainment Tonight_ and _Access Hollywood._ That's how I learned, because I read/watched those things.
So well-spoken and humble at such a young age. He was my idol growing up in the late 80s and early 90s. Gone far too soon. R.I.P. Jonathan
I will always be a big fan of Jonathan Brandis! I loved the movie ladybugs! He will always be in our hearts. We love you Jonathan ❤
I met Chuck Norris at the George R Brown Convention Center at the Collect-A-Con and shook hands with him and told him how I cherished him in Silent Rage, Sidekicks (with Jonathan Brandis), and in Walker Texas Ranger.
I told Chuck and his wife how terrible and sad it was that 10 years after Sidekicks, that Jonathan Brandis ended up passing away from suicide, and Chuck’s wife told me more than just the depression of Jonathan and his waning career and all, but also the psychiatric medication he was taking along with the alcohol (whether with or without alcohol) was taking so much toll on Jonathan that he had no idea what he was doing, whether he felt suicidal or not. Worst of all, the psychiatric medication company has a disclaimer and used legal to be completely covered, in which they couldn’t be sued, which should be wrong. Chuck told me how much he cherished Jonathan and knows that Jonathan is resting in the everlasting safety in God’s kingdom of Heaven.
All this, also, being why I don’t take psyche meds myself, especially anymore, and never will, and nothing can ever change my mind. More harm than good. Especially psychologically and financially.
Never saw some of this footage before and it's interesting to see them. Thanks, for uploading them.
So well spoken, great smile and laugh, but something mysterious about him. Gosh, why?? I firmly believe his career would have found firmer ground eventually. I think he would have been a massive star. I get Johnny Depp vibes.
I miss him so much. Rest in peace
He was so cool and no doubt deserving of his heartthrob status. He certainly had an intense sort of gravity to go along with his charisma. A fascinating person in more ways than just the movie star avenue. Watching some of these, I get a sort of vibe like he might have had a bad headache or was at times extremely exhausted and tense- but I think he masked everything that he was experiencing or struggling with incredibly well due to a high level of intelligence and eloquence. He was the face of my childhood in some ways and I would have loved to see him in a Netflix project or something nowadays, as I'm sure many others would as well. I don't think he really would have had to worry about his career fading out long term (people always mention that he had mentioned feeling disappointed with his career trajectory in the weeks leading up to his death). But I'm sure that part of his concern about that was due to the rigorous, merciless nature of the industry- especially in the 90's- when every top actor (especially teen heartthrobs of the day) presumedly had it drilled into them that even a small deviation from perfection could at any time result in their entire career tanking forever. Standards and aesthetics were INSANE during the 90's. Not to mention the lurking danger for children and teens in an industry full of predators, according to testimonials I've heard. That's too much pressure and trauma for someone just starting out in the atmosphere of inescapable fame. I'm sorry that Jonathan didn't have whatever kinds of support he might have needed back then. He should have had someone to talk to, but mental health wasn't even part of discourse back in 2003- it was only part of whispers and stigma.
Such brilliant actor, so handsome, so sad he s not here anymore😮💨😪
RIP Jonathan. You are missed and loved. ❤ such a beautiful soul. So humble and sweet and talented. His leaving is so sad and senseless. I wish he would have stayed. It just breaks my heart.💔
He’s so handsome
I was very happy to see this. Jonathan Brandis was good in everything I ever saw him in. HOLLYWOOD chewed him up and spit him out. Very sad and sTrANgE the way he checked out. R.I.P. You had so much potential.
Seemed like a really sweet person. It’s a dirty shame nobody helped him in time.
Jonathan had a deep resonant voice. What an asset for Hollywood he could have been.
I can't begin to let you know just how much this interview of jon meant to me. I'd like more stuff more interviews if possible especially when he got older. Wishing so so bad that he was interviewed when he got to be adult.😘😘😘😘 again, so many many thanks. I'll save this!!
Hi Teena, I'm afraid that's all the interviews I did with him. Sorry.
He was such a handsome bright soul :) RIP💖🕊️
damn this really hurt, thank you for sharing
Omgg his eyes there soo beautiful
R.I.P Jonathan Brandis ❤❤😢😢🥺🥺. We love you
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! THANK YOU
Thank you so very much you have no idea how much this means to his fans my heart hurts so much he is missed so much by so many Rip sweet angle with blue eyes sunkissed freckles contagious smile and the most cutest side smirk Jonathan Brandis 🖤🖤😢💔
To this day I don't understand why he hanged himself, there were so many women who were fans of him
Geez, this was River Phoenix stuff. So terribly sad that he died.
Hollywood forgot about him after he finished with Seaquest DSV. Such a talented guy!
Apparently he was considered to play adult Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars episode 2 and 3, but they decided he was a bit too old. Shame, because the opportunity probably would have kept him going. And nothing against Hayden Christensen but I would’ve loved to see what Brandis would have brought to the role. He had the perfect blend of good guy with a good heart, but with a brooding darkness bubbling under the surface.
I’d never seen this footage before. Bless you. Miss him unconditionally ❤
I love him very much I feel bad for him RIP You will never be forgotten
This so amazing love this soo much 👼🏻☁️
he is amazing. that’s all i can say.
Very talented, cool guy. These interviews reflect that, and how respectful he was - of his work and other people. Thanks for sharing ❤

Finally something I haven't seen. You are awesome. Would love to see Vinessa Shaw's part of the interview. Thanks for the upload.
I can't imagine how uncomfortable he must of felt about those notes and the comments he got sexualizing him and when people would grab or touch him without his permission
REALLY?!??!!
He's so special ❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍
I love him sm😭✋
his smile saves me❤️
He was extremely handsome. Like Edward Furlong. 90s had the most gorgeous young actors ever.
Thanks for the upload. He has been in the camera so much his whole life new stuff i havent seen comes around all the time. Its almost like hes still alive in a sense.
i haven't seen this interview before thank u it made me so happy
Jonathan Brandis and Edward Furlong are my crushs of 90s.

Seemed like such a good dude! Ladybugs was hilarious!
Thank you for sharing it means so much to us! ❤️ loved these interviews
Thank you so much for share🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm a big fan of The Neverending Story (more the novel than the films, it's much more profound). I feel it's ironic that that book is about human longing, of the painful experience of wishing to be different, of wanting to re-write our histories. Unlike the character he played, I guess Jonathan was never able to pass through those feelings.
I wonder about what Jonathan wished for, especially near the end of his life. It must have been so painful, all that unfulfilled longing. I hope he found peace, and wish his story had not ended.
Rest In Peace man
Thank you!
I had completely forgotten about him until today. I had no idea that he'd passed.
RIP sorry you didn’t realize how good of an actor you were
Thanks for sharing he was brilliant
Tragic what happened to him.
BABY😭🥺🥺🥺
Love Hayden Christensen BUT Jonathan should have been anakin skywalker. He was so close to getting the part that there is concept art for Attack of the Clones that had Jonathan Brandis as the character. I unfortunately think his suicide had something to do with losing the part. It would have Re-Launched his career to be in Star Wars.
He would have been the perfect anakin. Goodlooking and charming but a darkness and tragedy behind the eyes.
Love him. So heartbreaking still 💔
Seems like a sweet heart
His voice 😍🥰
thank you
Wow Johnathan how interesting listening nice to know great hunk
man i miss him he wouldve been Aquaman the superhero despite him doing the tv show Sequest DSV
ahh! thank you so much
May god bless is soul.
Really sad to learn he's gone. He really should've seen a therapist back then, if he really felt that way.
He killed himself because of waning fame and fallen career. If only he knew, if he would have waited, the way social media and the modern world is now, everyone is instagram and RUclips famous and all these channels like Netflix and Amazon Prime are well known for reviving actors' careers. So sad😢.. he made a permanent decision over a temporary circumstance. in this modern world, you technically don't even need Hollywood to be famous, you can be self made these days...
That’s not why he took his life but, it may have contributed to it.
He was drinking excessively for months prior and there were symptoms of schizophrenia which he was predisposed to due to his uncle having it.
We don’t know why he did it.
@@baybeegalkk I believe “drinking excessively” was thrown around because that’s what people can understand.
I agree, I wish he would have waited because 2003 was less than a decade away from RUclips famous... but in those days, I would have watched anything he was in, I was infatuated with him... if he had just gotten a little older, I could have seen him taking the 007 torch... he did drama, he did comedy, he did everything, he was capable of so much more...
Hey ı saw your commemt Under another video
Omg I thought this yt video was old but it was posted a day ago
It is old.
Meu tudo 🥺
Funny that he was asked about taking props in multiple interviews :)
Did he really? (Don't ask - don't tell!)
It's the same interviewer. 😄
Yes it is very sad he passed away at a young
age
I think I’m about the same age as him. This didn’t have a big effect on me when it happened but looking back now and watching these interviews, I’m extremely heartbroken
California closer to me moved liked Connecticut thanks sending him closer love him
I always thought he should of been cast in Apt Pupil as Todd instead of the also late Brad Renfro, shame both came to tragic ends
This is amazing
❤️
Really miss this guy
