    I am glad to see so many references about Jonathan Brandis.
    What many of you may not know is that Jonathan also documented a large part of his life with his trusty camcorder. He and his friends would make home movies. He would film them while they were hanging out and having fun. He would film their outings and there were several mini documentaries, for lack of a better word from the teen mags.as I understand it, most of them are in the custody of Greg and Mary. A few close friends and family members got some. There is even rumoured to be a video of Jonathan singing Bohemian Rhapsody st a karaoke bar floating around somewhere.
    The story of Jonathan Brandis is a story that needs to be told.
    The sooner the better.

  • @orion8835
    @orion8835 3 года назад +134

    I was skeptical about this upon hearing about it. Frye was like many successful child actors whose talents did not transition, despite efforts, into a successful adult actress. Her lifestyle was very Bohemian and her funds modestly spent in how she and her single mother lived. Their house was full of people and lots of minors all being allowed to eat, drink, smoke and party in the pool. Her mother created an environment that was the backdrop for what Frye lived. Her video doc of her party years in LA and NYC and reunions with old boyfriends and friends were very intense. Her recognition of friends who committed suicide and or died was incredible. Her written musings in the 1990’s were very poignant. In short this was a great documentary that certainly made me cry and think of my old friends and what it was like growing up in the 1990’s. A very powerful piece from an actress I think many of us forgot about. Not anymore. Watch it.

    This was such a sad but honest point in the movie. Yes they were her friends and because of that she carried guilt with their depths which is understandable but at the time she had so much of her own life events going on it wasn't her burden to bear. I'm glad that as an adult now she's able to use her healing as a platform to reach out to others.

    These private new recordings from Jonathan only stir you up even more. We only know a few specific time frames from his life and only from the media, television and old youtube videos. I am now 45 years old and followed Jonathan's career as a fan and voice actor for him in Germany for a very long time until the mid-nineties. At some point my interests also changed and as a young man I pursued other things. Of course, Jonathan always stayed in the back of my mind, but I didn't deal with him anymore, so years later it was a shock and a great loss for me to learn that he had passed away in such a tragic way. May God give his soul the peace it needs and ease his parents' grief. Now I came across Kid90 by chance and saw these private recordings of him and all sadness and loss came up in me. He was a big part of my youth. We have to let Him rest.

      the thing is, they will always stay close in spirit when we connect to them; be it through their videos, their voice, pictures... Jonathan's spirit is probably around you since you connected to him. so when they cross your mind for a second, or you think about them, that means they're with you.
      He was just one of the guys who liked a simple life; on the other side he talks about his dad's love of condiments (ketchup) and how a barbecue should always have lots of sauces. Also he will take a giant bottle of orange juice with him wherever he goes.
      So if you have a bbq with friends and think about him all of a sudden; it probably means he's there as well, drinking beer and hanging out with you guys. 🍔🍺

    • @gypsywoman9140

      Punky Brewster was an icon, and Soleil appeared on a lot of iconic shows from the 80s and 90s. She was that girl who used Screech for his pizza sauce, she was on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and plenty of other shows. She was literally everywhere in the 80s and 90s.
      I can't speak for anyone else, but I found Soleil herself to be awesome for not being like other Hollywood types. I think she chose to fade into the background to focus on marriage (she married in 1998) and raising her children. She did start an organic baby shop or some such thing long before Jessica Alba (if I'm not mistaken), she was unafraid to be photographed in stained shirts with messy hair like "This is the reality of raising babies hands on." She also chose nice yet unique names for her children, like Poet, Lyric and Story. (Jagger is cool but too Rolling Stones and doesn't fit the flow of the other 3 names.) She seems like a genuinely kind person, but maybe she's just a really good actress. Still, some famous folk ooze their assholery in interviews. Soleil seems like she's just happy to be there sharing her experiences.

      Punky Brewster, Silver Spoons, ALF and Small Wonder were my sh&t !!! I love personal video docus from the 80’s ever since I seen Mel Gibson’s unauthorized Lethal Weapon 2 HBO special. Though, rouge non studio meddling is raw. Seen one the other day of Avril Lavigne doing a on the run set up performance of her 2000 live set in Times Square. The people she encountered off the record is fascinating. Jonathan Brandis is something that still pains. He auditioned not too long before his death to play teenage Anikin Skywalker in AOTC. He didn’t get the part. No offense to Hayden Christiansen but those prequels would had been completely different.

      @@tobeyntucker Pretty much everyone even remotely castable auditioned for Anakin Skywalker (Some time see the auditions for the younger version and see if you think they chose the right kid - extend that to the choice for the older version.) Hayden wasn't helped much by the script or direction, but check out "Life as a House" to see if you think he had the acting chops.
      True, JB would have been better, (scarier for one) but given the same script and directorial restrictions...
      Jonathan went to an audition for a TV show once where they were looking for a "Jonathan Brandis type", and didn't get the gig because he wasn't (?)
