Happy to see these analysis videos! Our Season will start soon so maybe I can learn from yours! Excited for you 2021 keep grinding bro! Let’s get this collab going!!
I've always wondered if he could use his channel to help get signed. Most of us probably have never heard of his clubs so it seems like free advertising. Plus 400k is probably more fans than they have anyway lol
Hey matt, I’m a right back, and I would love it if you made a video on different crossing techniques and when/where to use them (TAA, Vazquez, James Ward-Prowse, etc) Love the videos!!!!
Getting to watch more of your video. I'm glad you're honest, which is refreshing , when you make a mistake which is much more important for those who are learning from your videos, than playing perfect. Because the only way to learn is through mistakes. In Holland we always look at players through a half empty glass never half full. The dutch are very critical and employing that aspect to improve the players. Just to go back to 1:07 for a second. You notice what happens when you make that straight up pass to the right wing along the sidelines, to the wing who comes back for the ball with his back facing downfield, which is just a TERRIBLE pass, for it accomplishes nothing. The result of this play is that your team gave SPACE AWAY by the wing coming back...Notice how all the opponents were able to move to the midfield line and thus contain your team better. One of the Golden Rules is that the wing should stay as deep as possible downfield thus giving you and the team as a whole more space to operate in. You stated it is 'SUPER CONGESTED" but that is because you and the wing caused it, by him coming back and you passing to him. At 2:46 WHY was the ball passed to your feet instead of the wide open space ,and WHY didn't the wing go inside instead of blocking your attempts to go down the flank. And realize by the wing coming to the sideline , he brings with him an extra defender. And why did you pass to the wing when your pass won't accomplish anything for the pass to the wing in that area you and the wing were outnumbered 3v2. At 2:46 situation and the at 1:07 and some other ones, you tend to make yourself too predictable by always tend to look at wing and the center back in your manner of play. Look at 1:45 and see how much space you initially had, but the wing by coming back is denying you space and time you need. This is one of the problems in American soccer, the wings are not taught how to play that position properly. Also, technically speaking in that situation ,you should have asked to have the ball come to your left foot with not right foot and with more pace to it, for it would have giving you a couple meters and less steps in the second touch to the ball in the sprint... You guys are killing yourselves, which effects your game, all due to poor positioning and movement off the ball. At 1:28, the center back attempts a pass to you. But look at the halfback moves towards the sideline to want the ball as well. As you check back, the halfback only has eyes for the ball, not noticing you checking back causing to almost block the passing lane to you as well as bringing a defender with him allowing him to come near you. This is one of the problems players here have is that they don't think as far as off the ball and continuity to other players but are very ball oriented as related to themself. One thing I noticed , technically speaking, is for you to give more fake passing attempts at times otherwise you become too predictble. I that know the moment you make a pass attempt , you will pass it.
QnA: what to do inseason if league gets cancelled due to virus? Do you switch up your individual training? Is it a good time to bulk up or just maintain muscle? Is it good to ramp up cardio or just maintain it before games resume?
@@thierry18 thanks for reply bro but on the ball i know what to do. Was curious if in times like this should I try to improve my muscle mass or cardio or just maintain it, it since the resume of season is unpredictable unlike in usual off seasons
12:41 Good decision Matt, I think the reason it got tight is beca your touch was inside and ther was a man there in that space, so what I would have and usually do is take the touch down the line going backwards which could result in you playing the ball inside with your left .
My team has lost all its defenders and we were #1 last season i stepped up since im one of the most skilled players after watching your vids of course and now im starting back there at rb as well as striker
Q & A: What is, from your standpoint, the biggest regret of your career and why? What is the best/bravest decision (one that the majority of players might neglect or be scared to make) you have made throughout your career and why?
When you said he doesn't speak English, I think this should give players a reason to learn more than two languages when it comes to playing football and traveling. That way it doesn't become a barrier in your career and you can make better communication with the people you meet around you.
great defensive game for you matt. Also, great build up play as well. But one thing, i know im not in the position to give you advice (ur a pro) but make sure your not scared when blocking a shot.
I know I shouldn’t be giving advice to an mls player but one thing i see that you can do is take it down the line. i believe when they crowd the inside you can just sprint down the line for a counter attack and create more opportunities for your strikers. just a thought.
Q and A: I’m a LW at la surf mls next academy and I really want to know what would you say is the best attribute and attacker could have other than speed
Hi, Matt Got some idea to share, just personal. Please don't hate lol. The play at 11:23 you can actually go up. However, your CB need to have the awareness on covering you. Same as ur another CB and Left back. Midfield need to fill up the space. This kind of defense happens very often in EPL or Europe top 5 league. But consider your CB seems not covering you. You did the correct choice. So lol, just sharing
Hey man, just wondering. How hard do you pump up your footballs? In psi. I’m younger and I just want to be able to get used to the harder and heavier footballs for the future. Appreciate it
At 8:12, You are taught at Ajax, as a wing when facing two defenders , "YOUR JOB IS DONE, PASS IT OFF'. ,but instead the winger wants to take on the defenders. Look at the situation it 5v2 in favor of the opponent. The winger should have passed inward to running midfielder, who could have passed to the left side where we had a 2v1 advantage... At 9:16 , 1v1, you allowed him to use his speed by cutting too soon. You should made him move his right leg to his right first by dribbling a step (at least two inwards) and then cut ,because then he would have to not only make a bigger angle in turning to his lef but go against his momentum, to chase you. Instead ,the way you move towards him , he had his body prepared to sprint with you and there is no way you were going to win that. When you play wing , it is not about speed but balance and angle... The counter attack stunk, at 9:52 . That pass should have been going to the right , diagonally forwards between the 2centerbacks. Also the pass was given way to slow and the attacker on the left has no eye for the open player on the far post.. At 10:14 the intend was nice but your intended one-two would not have been successful . You passed the ball way too soon, there was too much space given to the defender to cover you and adjust. But fortunately, your run, unintendedly created space for your teammate. Also ,note Aureo was way too slow ,he should taken the advantage of making a bending pass with the inside of the right foot , not the outside of foot, this way forcing the central defender to choose of either tolook at the ball or their men, but couldn't do both. This was a wasted opportunity... At 11:42 you could have a created a give and go ,but you didn't even attempt to move. At 12:40 , you should one-touched the ball with either outside of right foot or inside of left in the air toward to the running midfielder, but by receiving it and thinking what to do next reduced the time and space to make the pass. This is one of the problems of todays defenders ,specifically the backs , they don't feel comfortable wiith short pass in the air going to to teammates feet or in front of running teammate. At 13:08 why not trap the ball facing downfield instead you cut down your options. Should have pushed it forwards a little facing downfield thereby increasing more passing options for attack, instead you passed it back, taking the easy ,safe way....At 14:51 you have an option which was #6 the best option...
defending and tackling is the most important.if you are a wingback then should focus more on attacking. being faster and a good passer is always a bonus tho.
At 1:07, you have broken the Golden Rule that Ajax backs are taught, to never pass striaght up to the wing, Why? Because the wing will to reveive the ball with his back facing which reduces the field view, places the wing in a very tight spot next to the sideline, reduces the momentum of the attack, and it result in a back pass. You should have passes to a halfback because he's not only has more options but also for he is able to pass to a wing allowing wing to face downfield.Rinus Michels when Johan Cruyff at Ajax, would bench you for this pass, for at Ajax this is one of worst passes you can make. In your momentum, why didn't you pass to the open player in the midfield circle, who could have chipped the ball with a counterclockwise spin over the defender to an open player on his left...realize you would taken advantage of the 2v1 situation. Note also, the wing could make a run towards you to pretend to want the ball but actually draws his back with him in order to let his teammate next to him to make a run in the open space left by the leftback moving( you need to discuss this play with your teammate)... Although this the second video I've seen of yours, I see you have become to predictable with your passes along the sidelines. One good thing for you to work on is the instep pass along the ground, not with the inside of the foot but with the instep, for the ball will travel faster to an open midfielder diagonally in middle. I would reccommend to watch Daily Blind of Ajax, usually on ESPN+ and study how he passes the ball. According to Cruyff he has one of the best passes coming out of the back coming from a defender going forwards. Note ,especially which foot the receiving foot the halfback receives the ball in relation to what should happen next......Don't see this as criticism of your play but just trying to make you better.... Note, the pass you made to the winger should have been followed up by a one-touch from the winger to his nearest teammate who is unguarded almost next to him ,inside. When you make a pass like that ,do it in a way that the wing is position to make a quick follow up pass or warn him by saying one-touch to so and so. I can tell when passed it to the wing, you didn't have in mind what the winger could do next with ball; instead your were happy to pass it up. You don't pass to pass but pass in a manner your receiver can improve chances for a continuity pass , instead of having to pass back to you. Or if the wing does pass back to you, youneed to work on a one-touch pass in the air allowing to go over the defender, dropping in front of your teammate in the triangle, (you, the wing and nearest teammate). REMEMBER A DEFENDER DURING THE BUILD UP IS SOMEONE WHO GIVES PASSES THAT BY PASSES OR BEATS AN OPPONENT . IN OTHER WORD SQUARE DON'T DO ANYTHING....
From the all the games I’ve seen of lower division teams in the fa cup throughout the years, I would say usl is comparable to football league 2(fourth div) or national premier league(5th div) in level.
At 3;09. WHY, did you blast the ball up to midfield line creating ball loss when instead, You had a 4v1 situation in your favor and a teammate several meters in front of you to pass to??? At 3:20 why pass to the centerback whose is facing the sidelines with really field view. What you did is so predictable. You were in a much better position to see the field and more options than the center back. Also , WHAT can't you do ,technically, that the center back can do. Did you notice your 2 teammates positioned BEHIND the opponents at midfield with SPACE in front of them.....You couldn't take advantage of the situation? Instead, you just stood giving yourself away that you're going to pass to the centerback. At 3:23, WHY did you pass all the way back to your center back thus giving away all that space when in fact you had 2v1 with your centermidfielder at midfield. This happens so often in games ,just passing back to the centerback .....it is not a solution, but in a way saying, "Phew, I got rid of the ball, you do something with it" At 3:47, your were lucky for all three of you guys had eyes on and committed to #7 and leaving #45 wide open; lucky for you guys #7 didn't see #45 Your move was nice at 4:55 but at 5:36 , another attempted blast to nowhere, while you could have FAKED the pass or cut back sharp. This looks like a U14 attempt, you can do much better than that, need more confidence in yourself..At 5:40, your centerback should have been more assertive to ask for the ball for you had a 5v2 situation. At 5:56 WHY, pass to player with his back facing downfield with a man in his back at midfield when instead there is a Wing WIDE OPEN on the flank. And worse the passer had full field view..This just shouldn't happen. At 7:53 , you should not have stopped the ball and then proceed to take and push it with the outside of left....TOO SLOW! You should have one-touched it with inside of rightfoot diagonally a meter or so and passed to WIDEN OPEN midfielder in center circle. In my days the pass after the one-touch would have been made with the outside of foot Hard and on the ground a step or two, thus increasing the pace of attack...But today it so rare to anyone employ the outside of foot whether in the air or on the ground pass....That whole play ended up going square to other with the effect of having beating no opponent and it allowed the opponent to shift sideways. The pass should have gone to that OPEN midfielder in the first place for it had the effect of beating or by passing at least 3 opponents... Also notice how the Wide open midfielder in the center circle is positioned with his back facing downfield, along with his body stance NEVER thinks about the follow up pass or dribble to the next station; in other words he is so ball oriented and wants to the ball first and then sees what he's going to do next. There is so much that goes out there that is not taught to do players of today.....
This guy never owns up to his mistakes lol. I get it, he's professional I'm not etc. But every time he says something negative about himself, he ends the statement with "but it wasn't that bad" or "it was okay, it could've been worse" like bro lol. Just say you made a mistake and move on

It was a pen in the 32 min
I love leaening more
why did google say you are 28? lol
6:55 is a blatant penalty awful tackle
Minute 32??? Hows that not a penalty? Not even grazing the ball
This happens so often in games ,just passing back to the centerback .....it is not a solution, but in a way saying, "Phew, I got rid of the ball, you do something with it"
At 3:47, your were lucky for all three of you guys had eyes on and committed to #7 and leaving #45 wide open; lucky for you guys #7 didn't see #45
Your move was nice at 4:55 but at 5:36 , another attempted blast to nowhere, while you could have FAKED the pass or cut back sharp.

Just say you made a mistake and move on
I disagree. I am impressed with his honesty. He could just keep those plays out of the final edit.
@@shantiescovedo4361 I'm not saying he's 100% shedding off the blame, I just wish he'd give himself the criticism and move on you know? It's like he criticizes himself but then ends that statement with something to excuse his actions
You are playing too simple
bro no hate and stuff but you talk like you are so good but actually i don’t see anything special with you in terms of your game
Boring ass football mate yea take some chances
Congrats on 400k
