    No good axes were harmed in the making of this video. Except for that tiny nick in the granfors. xD

    Hah! Great minds think alike; I bought a no-name Ebay axe, same head size and shape as yours (800g), and cut the handle off, polished off all the paint, ground it to a bearded shape and fitted a super 600mm hickory handle. Gives a really light axe good for one-handed fine work, but the handle's long enough to put a real two-handed swing in and do some work. S'been great for light hedge-laying but used it hard for the first time today, on a heavy thorn bole, and the cutting edge bent sideways til it looked like a rose petal; 1/2" waves! Apparently it's chocolate metal. I'll cold forge it straight and it'll be good for the light stuff but yesterday ordered the 500mm handle 800g bahco axe to do exactly what you did with it then just saw your vid. Good work! Hope ours is good enough steel.

    Interesting video, Artisan Tony. The Bahco has an old time look to it, now that the paint and finish is removed. I don't think I've ever worked on a tool like that before. In fact, for a sheath on my camping axe, I just stuck an old sock on it.

    My favorite part. "Yeah, we may a little problem with the edge there. But I didn't do as much chopping as wranglerstar." You just don't want to admit that it's a piece of crap do you tony? Kinda shied away from that part didn't you? I believe Cody is spot on with his assessment of this hatchet.

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  10 лет назад

      You saw all of the chopping we did and I would hope that it would take a little more to make the edges roll. I never said it was a good axe. I said for the money it would be a fun hobby axe and it is. I am going to try to heat treat it and if that works then it should be a decent axe for $20. You can't expect the same quality for a fraction of the cost. That was my whole point to begin with. Cody is a good guy. He can take care of himself. I have already spoken with him.

    ever seen the sexy look along the edge of a samurai sword? where they heat treat the edge. it would harden that butter metal edge making the bahco axe a much better tool. they use some kind of clay to keep the heat off the rest of the blade. in this case you would be keeping the heat off the head and not the blade. subjecting the edge for heat treating only. then quench the edge in a hot water brine of sea salt and a water wetter/dish soap. water wetter/dish soap s a surface tension relaxer, where the quenching water would be more apt to stay in contact with the hot metal. as to not create so many bubbles along the hot metal surface. giving a more uniform/consistent heat treatment of the metal. then the axe head would be a fitting tool. for the price it's worth the time to heat treat the metal edge yourself.

    I really wonder why everybody puts the "S" in Bruk. The Swedish word "bruk" means "works" (as in the "works" in "ironworks" for example), and as far as google translate is telling me "bruks" isn't a word. And "Gränsfors" is the location.

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  10 лет назад

      It is easy to do if you are not thinking :)

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 10 лет назад

      ArtisanTony But I bet many of us pronounce it with the S because we think that's what the company is called. I've even seen the Gransfors Bruk logo and with "Gransfors Bruks AB" under it on a canadian website.

    • @knummirs3870
      @knummirs3870 9 лет назад

      +mrkiky I think they say it with an "s" because Gränfors Bruk is the brand but ita a Gränfors Bruk's axe, meaning they are the makers of it. This is coming from me, a finnish guy who speaks swedish :)

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 9 лет назад

      Padimir Vutin If that's it, they still spelled it wrong in the catalog.

    • @edwardcharles9764
      @edwardcharles9764 8 лет назад

      +mrkiky Gränsfors Bruks AB as on their website so if they pronounce it with an "s" don't see a problem if others do. Besides that, as were on the subject of letters where they shouldn't be, it spelt, not spelled!
