Man, the more time passes the more I realize how brilliant each of these performance is and can’t pick a favorite. Giuteu’s “Even though at times, they go to extremes” becomes more and more haunting and beautiful the more I rewatch/relisten. Especially since he’s comedic relief most of the show and his smiling demeanor giving further life into his supposed Insanity.
There's no evidence that Trump was the target of the mass shooting on July 13 in Butler County. He just grifted off the outcome, and probably staged it to grift off it. So, no need to update.
This cast is always going to be really hard to beat. The looks, personality, and punch they have is as perfect as you could get for these figures and their portrayal.
I find it so funny how John Wilkes booth, whos main motive for killing Lincoln was the fact that he was trying to let slaves free, sang “everybodys got the right”
this is a very interesting aspect to consider. Sometimes you can get caught up in the sympathy for their human motives that you forget how hypocritical and cruel they are.
@@wheatleypurseYes. Thus forcing us to examine the American notion of what constitutes ‘rights’ and for whom, and this is what makes Assassins such a brilliant piece of satire.
Good lord I can't stop watching this Performance, this cast, them being captured on tv and the revival essentially workshopped around them, and it's only the ending number when every song in that musical is gold. It stings more knowing it happened in my lifetime but I missed out on it since I was a child in 2004 but I'd give anything to see this cast, proprietor as well. :(
American Musical Theater of San Jose did an excellent production of Assassins. At the end of this song when the gun goes of they projected above the stage a silhouette of Kennedys funeral cortège with John John saluting. It packed a punch, similar to the last scene of the revival of Cabaret
@@RAY296 I understand that Czolgosz's song is meant to be The Gun Song but I really wish he had more to do in the ballad about him like Booth and Guiteau do.
The first "attempt" was staged and there's no evidence Trump was even the target. The second "attempt" was just some looney with a gun who didn't even know Trump was going to be there. So, no. Unless you want a song about how Trump grifts off the "attempts."
Red Reels “Heart,” from DAMN YANKEES. Victor Garber played the show’s antagonist, Applegate, in the 1994 Broadway Revival immediately after originating the role of John Wilkes Booth in ASSASSINS.
So Michael and Victor played 2 of the same character Thomas Andrews and John Wilkes Booth they also appeared in 3 musicals 1 based on the Oscar winning movie Titanic assassins and Sweeney Todd how cool is that
Considering the current times, this show just gets more chilling by the year. At times it feels like half the country is turning into these sort of "dreamers". And not only "this" country.
@@annorabelle gosh, its so wild to hear it and think about the fact there were probably people in that audience that were alive and remember exactly where they were when they found at that was kennedy was killed. and for them to see that iconic simple white shirt and jeans, and it just immediately clicking ... wow. wild.
Deadralord777 I completely agree. I was listening to both soundtracks on iTunes yesterday and I discovered that I liked the original off broadway better.
I think Neil Patrick Harris and the guy playing Czolgosz are very good, and Mario Pantone is hysterical as the guy who went after Nixon(santa suit). But on the whole the cast from the original is much better, and I frankly don't care for Michael Cerveris' singing, it just always seems to be missing something.
When it comes to just listening to the albums, the original version reigns supreme in my book. The cover art is great while the 04 version is such an embarrassment. It does have one thing over the original by including more dialogue from the show itself, but yet they chose not to include “November 22, 1963” like the original did. Garber and Parry are better as Booth and Proprietor respectively, in my opinion. Sam Bycke is hilarious in this version, but he is hard to listen to in the few instances where he sings, which is made more aggravating by the fact that Mario can actually sing, but he had to do it here through a heavy character voice. Also, with all due respect to NPH, he’s no Patrick Cassidy. That all said, I still think this is a good talented cast, and after watching the full show from a bootleg, I can tell they really beefed up the show, especially with the Proprietor. Also “Something Just Broke” was a good addition.
Even though it's not very completely proven, imagine what would then happen to this musical! Would it have to be changed or would they keep it the same format?

I love Samuel Byck in this production. His monologues were equal parts unsettling and funny and the line delivery was impeccable
you've both just spat the absolute truth. they're both brilliant
Hello from the future, you've nailed it.
I watch this performance at least weekly as Assassins is my current hyperfocus. And you’re absolutely correct.
Time to update the show guys

That was not the main motive. The motive was revenge for the economic suffering and destruction of the south
You're here for the same reason I'm here. Let's not judge.
If Sondheim was still with us, he’d have to write an extra song.
Hey, I'm just glad I'm not the only one!
How’d that work out for you?

They have the opportunity to do the FUNNIEST thing
This musical is so underrated 😢
I can't believe I never knew Victor Garber was the original Booth.
Rosie4evr ya he was amazing!
I recently found out! I was so surprised
Would you believe there were Flash fans wondering if Victor Garber could sing?
I can
Imagine how surprised I was to first find he was also the original Anthony in the original Broadway production of Sweeney Todd!

Squeaky and Hinckley deserve more lines in this song.
So does Leon :( but yes I agree
They are unworthy of more lines. It was there and I said it.

The crowd gasp when NPH steps forward and it sinks in who he is portraying is incredible.
There's a murmur but I wouldn't call it a "gasp." Also, why is Oswald holding a pistol when he actually used a rifle? Doesn't make sense.
It’s weird - in the production itself he uses the rifle to shoot JFK and the pistol at the end. I’m guessing they wanted them unified at the end
@@SarahB1863 In the production, he arrives at the depository with just the pistol, but Booth gives him the rifle.

Okay but the costume designer popped off
For some reason I just love when Booth and Czolgosz look at eachother. I don’t know why.
