@@Vizzient The Zhaitan fight in the Core game is the absolute low-point of the game in all content ever, just so you're warned, it gets a lot better from there.
@@nielsjensen4185 HAH I have been told this prior. Honestly it's fine for the core story I more appreciate it for a little structure and good XP than the plot tbh. However come 80+ expansion content my hopes will be up 😉
As a launch GW2 player, the thing that GW2 does much better than any other MMO is the open world story telling with its dynamic event system. On later maps, there are also huge meta events that drives a narrative throughout an entire map. It's not just a smattering of random events followed by a boss suddenly appearing. The Shatterer (the purple dragon champion you showed in the video) was lured out there by the Vigil for them to try and kill it at that point in time. The previous event chain has you gathering materials and escorting recruits to the staging area so that they are able to shoot it down out of the sky. Even early game areas have event chains that tell a small story (i.e. the farmer in Queensdale whose moas are being stolen by the bandits has a small event chain that ends with you confronting the bandit's boss). As you indicated, these small things make areas feel more alive as NPCs will call out to you asking for help and it is up to you to answer the call for aid, instead of having a quest marker over their heads that you will just complete once and completely forget about what you did for them thirty seconds later. Downscaling is done so much better here than in FF14 as you're not losing any abilities and instead your stats are adjusted. In FF14, I'm often at a loss when my level is suddenly downscaled from 90 to 50, I lose two thirds of my hotbars and I have to remember my level 50 attack rotation instead. I love FF14's overall story telling, but some of its systems leaves a lot to be desired. There is no perfect MMO just like there is no perfect game, but GW2 has fit a niche that I love. Hope you fully enjoy your time in Tyria!
The scaling is so well done just a flat stat squish and no removal of your fun buttons definitely the best usage I've seen in an MMO. Honestly I'm going to have to start paying more attention to the events progression and story that's interesting. Thanks for watching :)
@@Vizzientit's really funny though cause even with the squish you go into dungeons sometimes and most people have their elite specs fully decked out, and they just start blasting
@@Vizzient Dungeons are basically GW2’s equivalent of WoW’s normal dungeons, you’ll do them once for some story stuff or just to see them and then be done with them (maybe with the exception of the final dungeon Arah which has some replay-ability). Whereas Fractals are GW version of Mythic+, where you work up to the highest difficulty (Fractal lvl 100).
I started back in April, Im at 143 Mastery now with 8 characters at level 80, but I will never forget that time in Harati where I escorted an Ogre to meet his friend inside a cave I was doing the event with 2 other random newbies like me. And by the time we got to the end we just stayed for a while spamming "/cry" 😂
The best part is that it only gets better. The meta events get more complex and involved as you get to the expansions, since you don't need to level up or get better armors anymore they can focus on simply making them entertaining.
@@CocoQuetzalCh. It's designed to be! Dragon's Stand on release was pretty brutal too -- flying mounts and power creep made it *much* easier. I'm of the opinion that they should prohibit mounts in Dragon's Stand so you're forced to use the gliders and updrafts.
@@wiefdiwbofdbw... Then don't play Guild Wars 2, I guess. Progression is definitely still present in Guild Wars 2, it just isn't found in leveling your character, or being on a gear treadmill.
Got bored of wow and started gw2 thanks to my husband. I love it so much! Even at max level i still have so much to discover and i always find something to do.
Forever love WoW but yeah GW2 just can give me all that which I can't get from WoW these days. Idk what it is but that feeling of MMO excitement and things being fresh its awesome! Thanks for watching :)
agree with video the thing about guildwars 2 is the freedom to do whatever you want, its easy to be "nice" when you getting rewarded for EVERYTHING, even reviving people. if someone asks for help with something and you not doing anything specifik its easy to go and help out and get rewarded for it and having fun. Other then GW2 my most fun leveling up was SWTOR, loved the 1-50 stories there im still amazed by GW2 when you are just taking a break, maybe eating by the screen and then you see 10-30 players rush by, and you go "hmm diner can wait, wonder whats happening?" go along for the ride and have tons of fun.
Awesome vid! One of the best things about this game I'll have to say is the way it respects your time as a player. You can come bk whenever after a break and your old gear doesn't lose relevance. No sub fee to feel like you have to rush and play the game like a chore to get your sub fee's worth for the month. It's a nice relaxing experience I've had since launch and definitely different after having played WoW bk in the Cataclysm days and FF14.
No Sub is such an underrated thing honestly. Between that and horizontal progression not instilling a high level of FOMO to get you to return GW2 is really so different from what I'm used to. And I love it!! Thanks for watching :)
One thing I still treasure in GW2 that now seems overlooked is how the resource nodes are shared. You aren't scrounging for that one iron node only to curse out some other player as they swoop in and take it from you. Since it doesn't matter if they too get it, you're actually encouraged to help others out with finding them. So it's a wonderful small community building kind of thing for folks to help each other out with finding the big nodes of ore or maybe that one damn truffle plant to get something they'll used to craft later. As for the downleveling, its one thing I want in every game. The bigger leveled players don't dominate the map when they step in, but they can still use their fancy powers. It kind of makes you feel like a hero for the lower leveled players knowing they're facing down this champ they stumbled but suddenly a couple of level 80s jump in to help stomp the beast. Then maybe they stay around the lowbie and have adventures together. I kinda like calling it "I'm playing Doctor Who today". Show up, help a lower leveled newbie, ride around on my turtle mount, tell them "Jump in nerd. We're adventuring today" and run them through the map's waypoints safely since Turtles allow folks to ride around with you.
The dynamic events are a cool part of them game. I like that they can go in 2 different directions depending on if it was a success or failure. For example (kinda basic but i think it's good one): A 'defend the camp' event: - If it fails, it leads to a 'reclaim the camp' event which leads to another 'defend the camp' event. If the reclaim event fails, it leads to another attempt to reclaim the camp, however, this repeats until the reclaim event succeeds (with moments of rest in between to rebuild morale)). Or if the 'defend the camp' event succeeds, it could lead to an 'escort more npc to the camp' event and then lead to a bigger event.
The chaining together of the events is such a small but awesome thing that really increases that immersion factor. Guild Wars crushes it with these! Thanks for watching :)
I’ve been a wow player from the very beginning and stuck with it.. dismissing all other mmo’s, I jumped into GW2 and the first time playing engineer was a little to much for me so left it. I’m back after 2 years and playing necromancer and I must say this has been a huge amount of fun, I have the 80 boost but have been told to use it for my it for my second character( when ever that will be possible lol) but I’ve just reached lvl 31 and it’s been an awesome experience so far and the community is so helpful. I hope it does t change towards end game…. Thank you everyone that’s helped me so far.
Same here I have 2 boosts ready to roll but I want one organic 80 before I do and now that I'm close I definitely am glad I waited! The community rocks though no doubt. Thanks for watching :)
Bro I watched the whole vid, Im like whos this awesome dude Ive never heard of, and scroll down to see you only have 2k subs wth. Amazing content brother!
im a huge fan of level reducing for older maps, especially when showing friends and family the game i can use my current character without making their experience worse from one shotting everything
I wasn't so sure about it at first but I LOVE it now. That's a great point about being able to show people around and not be too OP. Thanks for watching :)

I still remember accidentally walking into my first world boss event without knowing anything about them. That was what fully sold gw2 to me many, many years ago.
Hah luckily I happened to be recording my first encounter here and was just trying to take in what was happening 😂 very crazy very cool. Thanks for watching :)
Same here! I’ve been playing a week. My first experience with a world boss was at level 11 in the swamp in the human starting zone. Saw 50+ people all waiting. I died a bunch of times, but got the kill and loot. Was awesome! Been hooked sense.
what I love is, you never feel alone even if you play the game solo, you start an event, after a few secs there are other people joining, just to help, if you are dead, someone comes to revive you because they can see the symbol on the minimap :) there is allways something new, even after a few characters, you gonna explore something you didnt see or do before. I am completing the base game world map right now, even if I am 80 and can go further, but its just fun to explore, do the hearts or events, join a world boss event and you get rewarded for doing it, with sometimes lion chest keys or mats you can sell, its not like in wow, where its completly useless to quest and complete zones.. its even worse to do so and not run dungeons because you are much slower... I love the game and I love that there are coming more and more people to explore it too.
Good list! Here’s my Guild Wars community story from a couple months ago. Someone asked in map chat if anyone could send them a fishing buff since they didn’t want to lose their streak by taking a break from fishing to get the buff themselves. I craft fishing buffs and always have extra, so I sent them a couple and didn’t think any more about it. They sent me a very kind thank-you and a gold coin, which is a lot more than the market value of the buffs. I didn’t ask for payment and would have happily parted with the buffs for free, but it’s that kind of community. 🙂
for the longest period of time i had no clue of what i was doing in this game but get distracted and be all over the place but it was fun. because like you so well said; you get rewarded for it.
Honestly since I'm not looking things up as I go if it wasn't for twitch chat and comments I would be so lost and still just be having a great time doing it. Thanks for watching :)
8:40 something else really interesting about events is that they actually scale based on the number of players participating in the event! So for example you may come across an event where someone is asking for an escort to the next town over and if you do it solo you may get attacked by some base tier mobs but if some more players come to participate the event might start spawning more enemies and with higher tiers (veterans, elites, champions) so everyone can get better loot and more experience!
@@Vizzient Maintaining control of the Waypoint outside Ruins of Arah can get chaotic real fast as the enemies will begin scaling to above max level once you get enough participants. And if you lose control of it, you don't have access to that dungeon and have an entire meta chain you need to do to regain it.
lmao i laughed at the getting sidetracked part, since i got diagnosed adhd so i know how that feels, and with GW2 i get constant dopamine hits from getting sidetracked and i get rewarded for doing so. :D From hopping one event to another, all the time something to do. :D It goes even same for WvW (World vs World big battles, keep sieges and stuff, so might be from smaller group skirmishes to like 50vs50vs50 massive threeway fights that can last like 30 minutes on Stonemist castle. AND in GW2 you get LOOT BOXES from reward track continuously on WvW also, so it's not only pve, but also pvp feels rewarding all the time, after big fights i might have 20 different type of loots to send to storage and open all kinds of boxes that might have even Ascended/Legendary tier drops/materials. So the rewarding feeling is 100% there ALL THE TIME. ❤ PS. Love the quality content, keep it up! ^^ Agreeing with your list btw. But yeah, once one hits 80, the feeling does not go away, there is so much to do then, and it all has that same rewarding feelings. Even in the "grinds" for certain goal things that are supposed to take time, can still be rewarded with lucky things can get you a fortune in game gold, that can then use to convert to gems and buy some nice particle effect shiny from gem store completely for free by just playing the game. :)
Appreciate the support :) yeah I cant help but get lost out there just trying to explore! Super excited to try some WvW soon people seem to love it. Its interesting seeing pvp spoken of so highly when in most MMO's it seems to fall to the side. Thanks for watching!!
3:00 ish - I played a lot of different MMORPGs (not all of them though) and I can only advice to try out different MMOs and reflecting on what type of content you really like about these games to find the most fitting one. GW2 confirmed my hunch about me being the "explorer" type of player; and also GW2 is one of if not the best MMORPG for this type of players since it really rewards you for that. Way before GW2, even before WoW I played City of Heroes and was introduced to the mentoring system that allowed scaling to your group (just stats, no new / disappearing skills). Ever since that experience it baffled me when games didn't provide proper scaling (not even optional scaling). So when I started GW2 (way back on it's release) I was so relieved to see this being a feature and the effect it has on the liveliness of the zones confirmed my opinion about that.
Exploration is so key with MMO's and it's taken years for me to realize this. GW2 finally made me realize how much I appreciate this in my games. Thanks for watching :)
Nice videos, higher quality than you would expect from A Channel with less than 2k subs. Good and understandable script and all is clear. Keep up the good work
Dynamic events and metas are definitely what carries GW2 not only at leveling stage but also all the way later on. It's really strange actually that GW2 has basically no competition in this aspect - it's not like GW2 does the events and metas extremely well, just no other game does this even closely as much. And it's such an insane tool for world building, you really get an impression that the world of the game exists and lives on its own.
Yeah I love running up on stuff already in progress and just getting totally side tracked and tagging along. Keeps things so fresh. Thanks for watching :)
Also one cool thing about the GW2 is that it fosters a generally welcoming and helpful community since there's no fighting over resources or loot from bosses AND people are incentivized to support others (eg. you get xp for reviving players). Also there's the system of a commander tag that brings people together for an event that they may not have joined if it wasn't for the tag.
#1 thing GW2 does best is mounts. Mounts not only let you move around the map faster but let you fly, high jump, race, take portals, give barrier, make you immune to fall damage, shoot fireballs, heal other players, go underwater, and much more. The mounts only require you to buy the story and spend some time playing the game.
Which I would hope we would be doing anyways right! Yeah the mount interactions seem rad and I'm excited to see how deep it goes. Thanks for watching :)
When you said zone scaling, I had to stop and think about it for a bit. After a while you just take it for granted, and forget how fundamental a feature it is.
Coming in without this expectation I admit I was super hesitant but I really love it now and having people who have been 80 forever come join me while streaming and can help without carrying its great! Thanks for watching :)
Im always happy to see new players share their experiences, good and bad. No game is perfect, after all. But Im glad youre having a blast with it. I will say that once you finish the "Personal Story", the story does massively, massively increase in quality like you've heard, but it also becomes a bit more present in the gameplay loop. For one, theres no longer any 10 level gap. Once you're 80 you can blow through the entire thing witbout breaks. For another, it becomes more tied to getting to new areas. In the Living World Seasons 3 onward, getting to a new map without help from a friend does require doing at least the first instance of the chapter. And for expansions, its the same deal (Though once you're in the expansion areas you can generally just walk)
As a veteran player who enjoys crafting legendary weapons, I enjoy having to go back to early zones as part of the journey. I end up meeting a lot of new players and oftentimes end up with new friends while just working on my map completion.
Most MMO's do scaling by scaling zones up or doing some behind the scenes calculations wich both are buggy and hard to balance. GW2's scaling is brilliant in it's simplicity. Scaling players down means that a) zone once set is done forever and don't require balancing after every update and b) numbers you see on screen are real numbers and thus feel impactful
Yeah it's funny how hard other games make it seem and then GW2 makes it so simple and it works better than any of them 😝 love having folks come join me on my leveling journey while streaming and be able to help but not just carry. Thanks for watching :)
As a Guild Wars 1 fan/Veteran, Guild Wars 2 has really brought in all of the amazing mechanics from the previous game and enhanced every aspect. I played GW2 on and off quite hard back in 2014, but 3 years ago I fully go invested into this game and ever since it's been nothing short than a blast. This game has so many things to do and fully rewards you for your time invested into the game, it's so fulfilling getting the Elite Spec or Mount that you've always wanted and now, you get to try out different builds with your Class and Abilities. Amazing game.
I've been playing for a few weeks and having blast. Just wish my gaming buddies would play😂 i played WoW with my wife for years and GW2 is such a breath of fresh air and so much fun!
Cool feature of those events is that they often have story triggers that occur before and after that can lead to event chains and even unlock world bosses, jumping puzzles, and overland dungeons.
Ah yes! I always love seeing videos of other MMO players trying Guild Wars 2 for the first time. It's such a treat. :) I really hope you end up getting to the story content after the vanilla story. The writers really leveled up their game with the post vanilla content in terms of story.
I haven't played GW2 in a while, but I still have it installed on my PC. I bought the game when it first came out and even from the very beginning, they did a lot of things right in GW2. The level sync that they have in GW2 was the first experience I had with that system and I still think they do it better than anyone else. I absolutely love how they did the world bosses and I will never forget the very first time I encountered the Shadow Behemoth for the first time. It blew my mind at the time...I didn't even know what was going on, I just happened to be in the swamp and saw a ton of people and was wondering what was going on, the next thing I knew this massive shadowy figure erupted almost from nowhere and I had so much fun fighting it. I then learned that there were more of them all over the world and went about finding them. My favorite is Tequatl, who will always be known to me as Tequila because the first time I saw his name, I read it as Tequila and from that moment on I just kept calling him Tequila. I love the story in GW2, but I think it is a shame that season 1 can not be experienced anymore and I think people are missing out on the fall of Scarlet. The leveling process used to take a lot longer, but I never felt bored while leveling a character, or that I needed to grind XP. I just went around exploring, doing the story, completing each maps points of interest and doing the random events in each map...Just playing the game and doing whatever random thing happened to be going on to be honest...GW2 really captured a just play the game and have fun kinda feeling for me rather than a grind, grind, grind kinda feeling and I really liked that.
I think season 1 has been reimplemented! It's in my story journal with all the steps/chapters, where before it used to be a "Visit this npc in Lions Arch to watch a cutscene summary".
@@VerticalForklift Oh, I didn't know that. The last time I was playing the game, season 1 was unavailable. That is great that they made it available again.
Yeah, the GW2 community is easily the friendliest community I've experienced in an mmo. I like how the game generally doesn't pit players against each other in pve. Like resource nodes don't disappear when another player gathers them or how renown hearts usually aren't more difficult to complete if there are more players in the area because you're usually not having to farm one particular mob for an item they occasionally drop for an hour just to complete a quest because there's five other players grinding the same mob for the same quest item..
I love the leveling experience and the world exploration - I've done is a dozen times. I find it relaxing in an odd way, I suppose. I'm fond of telling people that in GW2, unlike most other MMOs, when you hit max level? It's not 'Welcome to the End of the Game.' 'It's 'Welcome to the REST of the game - now go, explore, live, die, repeat - and have all the fun you want!'
GW2 has always had cool maps some of which are these huge meta events that really stand out like Auric Basin, Dragons Stand, Grothamar Valley, Dragons End.
I'm a veteran GW2 player that's re-experiencing the new player experience of gw2 with a friend. It's been a blast leveling up, going through the story, and finding the story dungeons actually being difficult when we're doing it at the lvl we are unlocking them.
GW2 is so big and there is so much to do, it's incredible. You can't focus on just the 4 main expansion stories. That's not even half of the game. Playing with different weapons, different skills, and different specs is just awesome. The other MMOs lost that years ago. You can be who you want to be here, and switch on the fly at any time in any place. I'm mad at myself for not quitting WoW and FFXIV sooner to come over here. So much time and money wasted over there. Yes the story in FFXIV is pretty good, but, the story here is pretty good also, and here, I can pick what my character goes into a dungeon or instance as. I'm not forced to be the tank or healer because of my class.
Thank you for sharing, great video, love the comment about revisiting Old Zones, I totally agree with scaling, (unless it means you can one shot in Uldum to try to get mimirons bloody head mount or Time Lost Protodrake LOL ) Subscribed as I am liking so far, btw Jumping Puzzles are either easy or impossible (JP in Lions Arch in the dark, or Aetherblades in Gendarren Field LOL) Or the new one in the Volcano, yeah, a JP from hell - Best thing about GW2 is Horizontal Levelling, not constantly chasing the latest "Mythic gear" if you take time away and no bloody subscription for empty servers
Jump puzzles are so fun it's such goofy content but I love it and little stuff like that really goes a long way! Almost 80 and super excited to see how this horizontal progression works out soon because it is totally new to me. Appreciate the support and thank you for watching:)
damn, I love your Gw2 vids so much! (just caught myself rewatching them like the tenth time...) honestly waiting for more gw2 content, obviously only if you still play/ enjoy playing the game. thanks for the vids so far and good fun gaming!
Yea dude this game…….even tho I spend 99% of my time doing PvP I routinely just head out into the world and pick a zone and then head off in a random direction. Every single time it ends up turning into some hours long gran adventure where I save some weaker players from certain death, drive creatures out of a village and fuck the shit up of some giant dragon or beast. It’s seriously the best game for just adventuring around and sort of letting yourself get immersed in the actual world. It’s amazing
I remember when i have just started my 1st toon and was runnin around queensdale doin random events and then suddenly a big red circle appeared on the mini map and everyone was rushing to the behemoth spawn, and i was feelin kinda fancy towards the game until boss spawned and boi lemme tell you how fast i put the ring on the game when i experienced that, and from there it just keep getting better and better
Levelling in GW2 is the tutorial, it doesn't hold your hand, you can literally run in that direction and never stop, but should you let it guide you, then you'll get a taste of everything the game has to offer and how to make it happen with your class ;7
I have been playing GW and GW2 since Prophecies (2005). I've tried, WoW, the FF MMO's, ESO, SWTOR, And a handful of other MMOs... Nothing has quite hit like GW and GW2. The story of GW was just awesome with such rich and original lore. GW2 backed it up with a fantastic MMO experience (original GW wasn't quite MMO) ... The story, the pace of gameplay, the strategy, the builds, WvW, the respect of players' time and, in general, the players are just wonderful. It has a fostered a great, diverse and genuinely helpful community. And it is the game that encourages that kind of community in how it plays. Truly a beautiful MMO.
Let me tell you what my number 1 thing that I enjoy about the gw2 lvling is. No kill stealing, in wow of you weren't the on one to land the killing blow you didn't get credit. In gw2 as long as you land a hit, you get credit for the kill. This even extends into the pvp side of the game.
The game actually directs high lvl players back into the low level zones , because as soon as your lvl is high enough to go for the shinies ( legendary weapons etc) you get collections that demand you to "find" something in a starterzone.
The biggest and most underrated thing about Gw2 leveling is that there is minimal back and forth. This is my biggest issue with WoW or even FF14. Go find NPCs, they send away to kill mobs or pick items. Find the mobs and kill them. Now return to finish the quest. Do that 4 more times before moving to another place. GOING FROM PLACE A TO PLACE B CAN TAKE MORE TIME THAN EVEN THE KILLING AND COLLECTING, THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST BORING AND MONOTONOUS THING IN MMO LEVELING... THE BACK AND FORTH WALKING (even with mounts). WoW maps, especially early on, are even longer and more empty. In Gw2 you never have to do that. Go to a heart and just help around. Even after finishing the heart, the NPC will send you your reward IN A MAIL! The heart area is also pretty small. It takes around 10 minutes and then you can go somewhere else. Locations feel distinct, they tell a story through the world and the enviroment not through a wall of text. Traveling in this game never feels boring. The maps are perfectly sized and populated with things to see and do to not feel either long or clutter (for the most part).
The best part about guild wars leveling: you only have to do it once! (in a good way) I found it can get really annoying to level multiple characters BUT, i play world v world, so i get tomes of knowledge (free levels) and a currency you can exchange for mastery points so i can level new chars "for free" by playing my main. You also get tomes of knowledge from dailies (or now the astral vault), you get free lv 20 scrolls every now and then and if you buy an expnsion you get a level booster, so you can level one char per expansion fully + get a full all round gearset. So you can have fun while leveling and then if you dont enjoy it you can decide to skip it (or run around and level by just doing map completion if you dont have the tools which is easy with a path of fire mount).
Oh yeah I have 2 boosts just waiting for use right now I just wanted to hit 80 the natural way at least once. However once that's done the choice of new 80s begins 😎 the tomes of knowledge system is interesting I'll have to look deeper into that. Thanks for watching :)
I played WoW back in the day until level 33 or so and switched to Guild Wars (1). I have been playing GW2 since launch and it is still my favorite game. You can play it however you want in regards to pvp/wvw, solo pve and organized pve. The base game is free, so just try it out! PS: For me the jumping puzzles are the worst part of this game ;)
HAHA I love the jump puzzles!! Then I fall and hate it 😂 Been on basically only WoW since 2009 and this genuinely makes me not miss it at all. Thanks for watching :)
Dont forget to try action mode. You can assign button for it in control options - camera section([F11] - mouse icon - camera section - toggle action camera). Naturally it gives you free mouse look and aimsight dot. Actually, most part of players(~3/5) play GW2 in action nontarget mode with fast ground targeting(config could be lil different, experimenting helps alot) just like any 3rd person adventure game. As you can see ~95% of player's skills dont need selected target to be used and works better without target selection at all. Just like warrior swords skills - just to jump out of combat, jump over lil pits and so on. Or engineer flamethrower. Manual aiming could be usefull for ranged combat too - if your ranged attack create non homing projectile on shot it will just follow your aiming or just pretend to hit middle of enemy's hitbox of selected target. With manual aiming you can hit targets which just stick out of obstacles or helps hit much more targets with piercing attacks(like shroud or staff 1 "auto attack"). Sadly, but other necromancer's default ranged weapons(scepter, axe and skills 2 and 3 of dagger, etc) are nonprojectile weapons and they are still need selected target to hit. But you always can try other classes - they are all different in playstyle. P.S. The main advice - dont rush. And especially with mount. Central tyria and maguuma jungle were created without mounts in mind. You can easly miss a lot of content. Especially - hidden ones. There are alot of hidden, non marked locations which do not count for map/zone exploration process. Underground and underwater caves, paths, dungeons and puzzles or just interesting surroundings... All of these could easly be missed just coz you didnt check cave entrance or just rush through the crowd of enemies on mount.
I still remember when I was asking for help to clear one of the content for achivement to get the skyscale. I plead in chat /map and one mesmer showed up... I think well I guess we both died. but No, the mesmer is opening portal for the other to reach my area. Damn man, I wish I could record that, like a real chivalry is here. the boss is friggin strong. I can't solo it. at least need to get cc'ed so hard before it unleash his devastating attack.
The loot system is great too. Everyone gets their own loot as long as you hit the creature at least once. There is no fighting over wanting to kill something or wanting to get that last hit.
I have not leveled a Character in a few years, over all the time I have gathered so many books of knowledge and experience scrolls that bring you to level like 20, 50 on use. You get Achievement points every day for doing daily's thats another thing I like about GW also, I only just hit 452 mastery just got back from a really long break and still feel just as strong as the day I left. The Achievement system on gw2 seems like it would be super hard but they really are not and I find alot of fun in working on them and some reward you very good. I have crafted 2 legendaries so far and earned the necklace through achievements. Building the wepons took a while but the journey every time gives me an objective, with gw2 working towards all the "Gifts" to build Legends to me is the real game.
I came back after 9 years away. I didn't like the personal story gameplay all that much with a bunch of busy work. It was the SOTO expansion that got me interested. Gliders, land mount, flying mounts got me interested. I bought all the expansions and the expansions is where it's at. The ongoing storyline is really good if you can get through the personal story. I suggest you get used to your class first and then boost to 80, find a meta build online and then go through the personal story points only until complete and then go to SOTO and get into the fun stuff. You can go back to Living Seasons and HoT later after you get your land mount at the beginning of SOTO. Join some HP Trains in the LFG. Keep some Teleport to Friend on you. Level those mounts up.
I'm always surprised after watching videos like this how can anyone even play other MMOs than GW2. I'm a GW2 player and I've never even tried WoW but after finding out what players of other MMOs take as an advantage of GW2, I don't even want to try those other games.
I enjoyed your perspectives :) I'm an EX WoW refugee as well, quit it for Guild wars 2. The game is very high tier and superior to WoW for sure ! The downside is content release as Blizzard are filthy rich and for hardcore competitive content the community is pretty small, I for example created my own content and I found a new game style after so many hours in guild wars x)
Yeah blizzard is freaky good at competitive cutting edge content truly no one does it better. However that grind definitely wears you down and GW2 is the best fix for it IMO! Thanks for watching :)
I've been saying since GW2 originally came out its event system and the leveling alongside it was are the best out of all MMOs. And they still are in 2023. People just need to try it since base game is free.
Yeah so much of the game is free no point not trying! I wish they just didn't start with that post processing setting on I feel like it turns people away graphically 😅 thanks for watching :)
Zone scaling is great. It is like you said, you can revisit starter zones and you can still die if you try to take too many mobs at the same time. Of course you will be a lot overpowered compared players who are playing zone at the zone level compared lvl 80 player downscaled as you will have all the skills and maybe even highest stat gear you can get. Also you can help friends to level up their character and same time you won't explode every mob just by looking at them. I rather have this system than there wouldn't no scaling. Imagine you are leveling your character and friend comes to help you with max level character equipping all the bling and the oneshots everything. That would lessen my experience for the game immensely. Anyway great video for such a great game.
And if you got the weapon master from Soto, even if your character is under level the can use elite spec weapons, not the spec but that is still cool as a vet
Leveling in GW2 is fun because it basically is part of what you're doing in endgame too, like doing World Bosses or 100%ing maps. Typically you only really level your first character because Tome of Knowledge exists and there's no upside of doing all that without having all traits/skills/elite specs unlocked. That's why leveling never really was a great deal to me in GW2. You're not leveling, you're just playing the game.
That's a good way of looking at it not that leveling is a separate entity but you're really just playing the game as you will I like that. Thanks for watching :)
The one caution I will give you is that you may have a bit of aimless "now what?" feeling once you've hit level cap. Coming from other MMOs, you've been well trained to constantly run the treadmill looking for the next advancement, the next piece of gear, the next level cap... It can be really disorienting to go from a game that tells you constantly "go do this" to a game that tells you "here's a whole world full of things to do, what do you feel like doing?"
@@Vizzient That's kind of a long form video topic all by itself! ;) Broadly, I would think of two main axes: Competitive vs Co-op/PvE and organized vs casual/solo. Depending on where you fall on those, there are a lot of different types of content that could appeal, from organized PvE (raids/strikes /fractals) to drop in PvP, or conversely organized WvW to dungeon soloing. If you want a large, long-term goal to work towards that will take you through all of those, you might look through the list of legendary items, find one that speaks to you, and start working towards it. That will take you through world completion (every heart, poi, waypoint, and vista in core Tyria), through a bunch of WvW for a gift of battle, and farming a ton of gold or materials to put together the rest.
look, I loved leveling up, until I got to fractals, strikes and raids... before I raised a character to level 80 in a few days or less, now I have a character at level 45 for 1 month and I'm not raising it, Because there is so much to do and so many fun things that i hardly ever play that character
Well that just means lots of great stuff to look forward to! Seems like I'll definitely be able to keep myself busy once I get 80 here shortly. Thanks for watching :)
A lot of this game is "dynamic" compared to others, even the leveling. As a launch-era veteran who stopped playing for a bit, I came back a couple weeks ago & got 3 more characters from 1 to 80. I didn't mind doing the level up again, especially since I used it to learn the systems of those classes. (And, yes, combat is more than standing one place and pressing a button at the right time.) No game is perfect, but GW2 does a lot of good things and they got a lot of things feeling "fun". It's entertaining and fun. Yes, this class might be OP, and that might need to be tuned better, but on the whole? A fun game that still feels relevant & looks good in 2023.
First time levelling is great, but levelling subsequent alts gets tedious real fast. It's still advisable, as levelling is the best way to learn a profession, but I could understand if you decided to skip it on your 3rd or fourth character.
I will say when it comes to trash mob killing I pretty much one shot anything in any zone because I am one of those that refuses to use defensive stat armor. I don't need to dodge much when everything is dead, in the rare moments I need more survivability like soloing certain champions I just change traits to make myself more beefy. I think that is the true gem of this game is the versatility to play how you want, don't get me wrong if you are a new player and want to do instanced content in public groups there is definitely a expected "meta" to follow and for good reason but don't be afraid to experiment while you are out in the open world or with your friends.
I never played WoW, but i hear a lot how people thuoght "thats what a MMO is like", but of coruse i played many MMOs before WoW was even released But GW2 has stuck out among the best, it might even be the best ive ever played, and i only came to it a month or 3 ago I too enjoy the levelling process, and dont see it as something that needs to be rushed through, but it is true that hitting 80 is the real start of the good stuff The other great thing is Gear, no Gear Treadmill here, form 80 you can wear Exotic, and thats good enough for almost every single thing, you can upgrade to Ascended, which is on averagae 10-15% better, after thst if you REALLY want to, there is Legendary, which has equal stats as Ascended, the only difference with it is that you can share it among your characters and you can re-roll the stats almost any time you wish, but this shouldnt be rushed either, and indeed im not even bothering with it any time soon, as ive told my guildies, i will wait 5 years before embarking on Legendary - that might not prove true, but i just dont see the real point in it, it will come to me as it comes Also when you get to 80, you have the choice of doing instanced content such as Fractals of the Mists, and Strike Missions, as well as Raids, all of which reward you Exotic, Ascended and materials for Legendary. But you can also do World V World (wvw) which is sort of pvp, but on a mass scale, and you fight 2 other neighbouring "servers", 3 teams constantly battlling over a Huge map, because its massive, its unliike a lot of PvP in its experience, you will rarely find yourself alone, (unless you choose to, as some do) youll have dozens of people with you. This too gives you Exotic, Ascended and materials for Legendary. Then theres more familiar PvP and you can start doing this at level 1, because in pvp everyone is level 80, and your gear is selected from various "gear sets" its not actual gear its a token that repesentss a full set of X or Y, and there are dozens of variations This not only levels you up with XP so you will be higher level outside of PvP but like the other 2 modes, also rewards you with Exotics, Ascended and Materials for Legendary In pvp and wvw you can also purchase your Hero Points, so for those who really dislike levelling or doing stories, they can level up their own way and are not forced to do things they dislike I personall ylike the more traditional, but when ive done more zone unlocking etc, and can play more "sandboxxy" i will probably choose to spend a lot of time in WvW Apologies for the essay, i honestly tried to keep it short Oh, did i mention once you got your gear, you got it for life, the next expansino will not raise the level cap and make you grind more, you can just continue to enjoy the content
The wild thing is that all the content you're experiencing at the start is well over a decade old. Sure, it's been polished here and there over the years, but it's pretty rough compared to the content that was developed since then. I have well over 3000 hours into the game and I play old zones still and notice how rough the events are compared to the later stuff.
I'm kind of sporadic with schedule to be honest but I definitely want to get into more of a routine! 3-4 times a week to hang with the peeps, chat and catch up. Keep an eye out I'll be on there :) thanks for watching
Veteran here. It only gets better guys, trust me!
Love to hear it! Thanks for watching!
@@Vizzient The Zhaitan fight in the Core game is the absolute low-point of the game in all content ever, just so you're warned, it gets a lot better from there.
@@nielsjensen4185Yeah, it is kinda disappointing but then the end fights for every other Season and Expansion are an order of magnitude better.
No one told me I had to world complete for leggies tho lol
@@venny1689 I've been told dungeons get a little wonky and people just go god mode 😂
I started back in April, Im at 143 Mastery now with 8 characters at level 80, but I will never forget that time in Harati where I escorted an Ogre to meet his friend inside a cave
I was doing the event with 2 other random newbies like me. And by the time we got to the end we just stayed for a while spamming "/cry" 😂
The best part is that it only gets better. The meta events get more complex and involved as you get to the expansions, since you don't need to level up or get better armors anymore they can focus on simply making them entertaining.
Dragon's Stand, Fall, and End are gonna be a *trip*
@@CocoQuetzalCh. It's designed to be! Dragon's Stand on release was pretty brutal too -- flying mounts and power creep made it *much* easier. I'm of the opinion that they should prohibit mounts in Dragon's Stand so you're forced to use the gliders and updrafts.
I'm super excited to get into it! Hearing it only gets better when you're already having great time is awesome. Thanks for watching :)
horizontal progession is horrible to me. The entire point in playing rpgs is to grow your character
Thanks for watching :)
agree with video
the thing about guildwars 2 is the freedom to do whatever you want, its easy to be "nice" when you getting rewarded for EVERYTHING, even reviving people.
if someone asks for help with something and you not doing anything specifik its easy to go and help out and get rewarded for it and having fun.
Other then GW2 my most fun leveling up was SWTOR, loved the 1-50 stories there
im still amazed by GW2 when you are just taking a break, maybe eating by the screen and then you see 10-30 players rush by, and you go "hmm diner can wait, wonder whats happening?" go along for the ride and have tons of fun.
LOL Whenever I see a big group forming I'm like yeah whatever I'm doing can wait something's going down 😂
Awesome vid!
I have quite literally been told to jump in a turtle I'm pretty sure it's in the video 😂 thanks for watching!!
The dynamic events are a cool part of them game. I like that they can go in 2 different directions depending on if it was a success or failure. For example (kinda basic but i think it's good one):
A 'defend the camp' event:
- If it fails, it leads to a 'reclaim the camp' event which leads to another 'defend the camp' event.
Engineer is a bit advanced for a new player, good thing that for the second run you chose Necromancer🎉
Bro I watched the whole vid, Im like whos this awesome dude Ive never heard of, and scroll down to see you only have 2k subs wth. Amazing content brother!
Appreciate the kind words! More to come that's for sure. Thanks for watching :)
im a huge fan of level reducing for older maps, especially when showing friends and family the game i can use my current character without making their experience worse from one shotting everything
I wasn't so sure about it at first but I LOVE it now. That's a great point about being able to show people around and not be too OP. Thanks for watching :)
Not sure about that, that's how ESO works, you can go nearly everywhere if not everywhere with new character, it is kinda janky.
@@wiziek it does not upscale you, only downscale, so as a new character you DEFINITELY cant do high level zones, you will get obliterated
I oneshoting😂 in older zones with vindi but yes i know what you mean
@@egoszmotyike Uhm no? You can go to high lvl zones from start, you have max lvl stats regardles of your level, until you reach point of earning champion points.
Love to hear peoples positive experiences like this! Been having an amazing time myself. Thanks for watching :)
Love hearing stuff like that. Folks are actually genuinely so helpful in this game its wild. Thanks for watching :)
for the longest period of time i had no clue of what i was doing in this game but get distracted and be all over the place but it was fun. because like you so well said; you get rewarded for it.
Honestly since I'm not looking things up as I go if it wasn't for twitch chat and comments I would be so lost and still just be having a great time doing it. Thanks for watching :)
Gw2 is a true gem, so much to do and everything at your own pace.
Loving the take it at your own pace feeling of the game. Seems loaded with content. Thanks for watching :)
Welcome to Tyria! You have a long and fun road ahead of you. once you hit the first expac things are gonna scale up in quality for sure.
That's what I keep hearing! Super exciting.
Oooh lowkey didnt know that but it's good to know! Thanks for watching:)
PS.
Keep up the good work
Appreciate the support friend! Thanks for watching :)
Loved the video! Glad you're enjoying Guild Wars 2
Hah about the same thing happened to me with Shatterer and I was so overwhelmed but in the best way. Thanks for watching :)
Very excited to get into and see what it's all about! Thanks for watching :)
As a veteran player who enjoys crafting legendary weapons, I enjoy having to go back to early zones as part of the journey. I end up meeting a lot of new players and oftentimes end up with new friends while just working on my map completion.
I really need to get deeper into crafting! Seems pretty awesome overall. Thanks for watching :)
I started initially at launch but due to school just couldn't stick with it. Coming back now has been such a good experience! Thanks for watching :)
I've been playing for a few weeks and having blast. Just wish my gaming buddies would play😂 i played WoW with my wife for years and GW2 is such a breath of fresh air and so much fun!
Happy that you start loving and appreciate this amazing mmorpg, it's my fav!
Becoming my favorite as well! Thanks for watching :)
Cool feature of those events is that they often have story triggers that occur before and after that can lead to event chains and even unlock world bosses, jumping puzzles, and overland dungeons.
Honestly I'm just starting to realize the extent at which they do this. Crazy! Thanks for watching :)
Ah yes! I always love seeing videos of other MMO players trying Guild Wars 2 for the first time. It's such a treat. :)
I really hope you end up getting to the story content after the vanilla story. The writers really leveled up their game with the post vanilla content in terms of story.
Oh I'll be there soon 😎 80 prob today or tomorrow! Thanks for watching :)
Honestly sounds similar to how it is now just with some modern improvements! Thanks for watching :)
It's always nice to hear positive impressions of my favorite MMO. :)
It's a great game!! Thanks for watching :)
Can't wait to see them!!
Really happy you enjoyed this game! Hoping to see more folks have the same experience!!
Appreciate the support :) Thanks for watching!!

(just caught myself rewatching them like the tenth time...)
honestly waiting for more gw2 content, obviously only if you still play/ enjoy playing the game.
thanks for the vids so far and good fun gaming!
Second to none for that feeling of being an adventurer doing all the fantasy staples that's for sure! Thanks for watching :)
It's funny I feel like we all have the same core experiences that got us hooked in the end! Thanks for watching :)
As a veteran wow player gw2 is awsome
WoW will always have a huge chunk of my MMO love but GW2 has me MMO excited for the first time in ages! Thanks for watching :)
My top 3 mmo FF14, GW2 and OSRS
Been feeling like an OSRS return possible soon...
I got at level 80 like 2 months ago and I still have a lot to do and improve, I got a flying mount yesterday, the game just gets better and better
Things really turn up after 80 for sure! Thanks for watching :)
Levelling in GW2 is the tutorial, it doesn't hold your hand, you can literally run in that direction and never stop, but should you let it guide you, then you'll get a taste of everything the game has to offer and how to make it happen with your class ;7
Definitely the best MMO tutorial then! Thanks for watching :)
I always come back to gw2 from time to time. I love WvW!
Excited to try it myself!!
Doing collections for legendary precursors also breathes a lot of new life into older zones
What's that all about??
I’m a returning player and finally decided to step out of my comfort zone and play the elementalist and I’m having wayyy too much fun right now!
Love to hear it!! Thanks for watching :)
I started playing in 2014, I have lvl 80 thief, revenant and warrior. I love iiitttt. I need to get back into it tho.
New xpac getting tons of love might be a good time!
That's definitely a positive! Thanks for watching :)
The game actually directs high lvl players back into the low level zones , because as soon as your lvl is high enough to go for the shinies ( legendary weapons etc) you get collections that demand you to "find" something in a starterzone.
Ahh I like that good to know! Thanks for watching :)
Great point never really thought of it like that! Thanks for watching :)
The best part about guild wars leveling: you only have to do it once! (in a good way)
I found it can get really annoying to level multiple characters BUT, i play world v world, so i get tomes of knowledge (free levels) and a currency you can exchange for mastery points so i can level new chars "for free" by playing my main.
@@Vizzient i usually raise my chars normally up to around 50 just so i get the feel of them before levelling them with tomes or boost.
Just started and will continue for many more years to Come 👍🔥
Love it!!
Welcome!
Appreciate that and thank you for watching :)
Mesmers are the real MVPs 😂 thanks for watching!!
The loot system is great too. Everyone gets their own loot as long as you hit the creature at least once. There is no fighting over wanting to kill something or wanting to get that last hit.
One tipp: you can rightclick the chests you get on the right side to get the items fast
Love it thank you!!
6:00 lol nice, you have the telent in using trebuchet in WvW I believe xD

Just beat the personal story today! All legit no boost to 80 but now I have 2 boosts waiting for me which is sick. Time to get the cool mounts ;)
Welcome to GW2!
Thank you friend! Appreciate you watching :)
fantastic list and thoughts... very accurate

I'm always surprised after watching videos like this how can anyone even play other MMOs than GW2. I'm a GW2 player and I've never even tried WoW but after finding out what players of other MMOs take as an advantage of GW2, I don't even want to try those other games.
Most other games just push leveling to the wayside and haven't tried to improve in years unfortunately : / but yeah GW2 kills it
I miss playing this game. I played on my bros PC but after i moved out, i had to leave the pc behind 😭
Time to get yourself a PC it sounds like 😄 GW2 awaits!!
I enjoyed your perspectives :)
I'm an EX WoW refugee as well, quit it for Guild wars 2.
Appreciate the support friend! Scaling is so well done in this game honestly. Thanks for watching :)
I played wow 20 years ... ...start playing this ..now I love guild wars2...and in many ways is so superior to wow that I think I never touch wow again

And if you got the weapon master from Soto, even if your character is under level the can use elite spec weapons, not the spec but that is still cool as a vet
Oh that's nice a bit of a reward for the long time players
@@Vizzient yeah giving some variety for key farming
Leveling in GW2 is fun because it basically is part of what you're doing in endgame too, like doing World Bosses or 100%ing maps. Typically you only really level your first character because Tome of Knowledge exists and there's no upside of doing all that without having all traits/skills/elite specs unlocked. That's why leveling never really was a great deal to me in GW2. You're not leveling, you're just playing the game.
That's a good way of looking at it not that leveling is a separate entity but you're really just playing the game as you will I like that. Thanks for watching :)
I do like the jumping puzzles, though.
What would you suggest I look into once I do hit 80 here soon? Thanks for watching :)
@@Vizzient That's kind of a long form video topic all by itself! ;)
Broadly, I would think of two main axes: Competitive vs Co-op/PvE and organized vs casual/solo.
Don't fractals give you tomes of knowledge? Why not use them on your alt? I think I've only legitimately levelled from 1 once xD
@@daze4135 Yes, but i have 6 alts now. and doing raids and strikes. Plus the new expansion.
My 1st character literally got to 80 by only doing the required story missions and map exploration. No grinding whatsoever.
Sameee I've just been bopping around and doing story every so often and I'm just about 80!
(And, yes, combat is more than standing one place and pressing a button at the right time.)
No game is perfect, but GW2 does a lot of good things and they got a lot of things feeling "fun". It's entertaining and fun. Yes, this class might be OP, and that might need to be tuned better, but on the whole? A fun game that still feels relevant & looks good in 2023.
welcome to GW BIG family
Ayy appreciate it friend!!
First time levelling is great, but levelling subsequent alts gets tedious real fast.
It's still advisable, as levelling is the best way to learn a profession, but I could understand if you decided to skip it on your 3rd or fourth character.
Yeah definitely glad I did it the OG way first time but who knows goin forward!
I consider myself a veteran mmorpg player, 13 years and counting. I found gw2 to have the best leveling system
Yeah right around that timeline myself and at this point I might have to agree! Thanks for watching :)
GW2 has the best model of any mmo to this date. Sad some ppl won't give it a try.
Sad I waited so long to try it!! Thanks for watching :)
My adhd loves this game.. i was doing story and found myself killing huge dragon in somekinda event 😂😂
Legit had the same experience 😂
I never played WoW, but i hear a lot how people thuoght "thats what a MMO is like", but of coruse i played many MMOs before WoW was even released
But GW2 has stuck out among the best, it might even be the best ive ever played, and i only came to it a month or 3 ago
I too enjoy the levelling process, and dont see it as something that needs to be rushed through, but it is true that hitting 80 is the real start of the good stuff
The other great thing is Gear, no Gear Treadmill here, form 80 you can wear Exotic, and thats good enough for almost every single thing, you can upgrade to Ascended, which is on averagae 10-15% better, after thst if you REALLY want to, there is Legendary, which has equal stats as Ascended, the only difference with it is that you can share it among your characters and you can re-roll the stats almost any time you wish, but this shouldnt be rushed either, and indeed im not even bothering with it any time soon, as ive told my guildies, i will wait 5 years before embarking on Legendary - that might not prove true, but i just dont see the real point in it, it will come to me as it comes
Also when you get to 80, you have the choice of doing instanced content such as Fractals of the Mists, and Strike Missions, as well as Raids, all of which reward you Exotic, Ascended and materials for Legendary.
Then theres more familiar PvP and you can start doing this at level 1, because in pvp everyone is level 80, and your gear is selected from various "gear sets" its not actual gear its a token that repesentss a full set of X or Y, and there are dozens of variations
This not only levels you up with XP so you will be higher level outside of PvP but like the other 2 modes, also rewards you with Exotics, Ascended and Materials for Legendary
In pvp and wvw you can also purchase your Hero Points, so for those who really dislike levelling or doing stories, they can level up their own way and are not forced to do things they dislike
I personall ylike the more traditional, but when ive done more zone unlocking etc, and can play more "sandboxxy" i will probably choose to spend a lot of time in WvW
Apologies for the essay, i honestly tried to keep it short
Oh, did i mention once you got your gear, you got it for life, the next expansino will not raise the level cap and make you grind more, you can just continue to enjoy the content
No need for apologies love the helpful insight friend! So much new stuff to take in right now in game all tips are appreciated. Thanks for watching :)
Is it like Eso? I'm afraid because it's sounds Like " enjoy the Story/world but you dont feel strong or getting stronger. No grind.
Do you mean to say you don't get stronger in ESO? I have no idea as I've never played so I'm curious.
Well even so I'm still having a blast in it. But can't say that's not exciting you think it gets better! Thanks for watching :)
As a gw2 boomer, these newbies have it easy!
Back in my day we had to keep perma swiftness to get across and do crafting to get to 80 quickly.

I used to leveling in this game by just doing PVP and WvW , idk if this still works.
I think so I've definitely seen people mention it!
I'm wondering if you have specfifc times, or timeframes where you stream :D
I'm kind of sporadic with schedule to be honest but I definitely want to get into more of a routine! 3-4 times a week to hang with the peeps, chat and catch up. Keep an eye out I'll be on there :) thanks for watching
