      Good deal! Those things are way too expensive at the dealership.

    The one thing that gave me trouble was,90 angle backed holding the ps pump to block

    What was your issue before you did this fix?
    I have the same truck and have swapped every single part out of the system except the Vacuum Pump and at a stand still it’s as if I have no power steering, if I push down on the breaks it’s even worse. Backing up a trailer sucks. I’m hoping if I swap out the Vacuum Pump this will fix my problem,
    Thoughts? Thanks!

      Okay kind of a long story but... originally my power steering got weak on me. I ended up over a week or two replacing the pump, both lines, steering box, and my hydro boost had been replaced a year prior. I still had a very similar problem as when I began. I decided the pump must be bad. I replaced it again (which is this video) and bingo that fixed it. The original pump I’d purchased was just bad. It happens. There can be several things but the first I would do is jack up the front end and turn the wheel lock to lock 20 times or so. Be careful of course jacking these things up. It could be you have some air in the system. Other culprits could be the hydro boost or a bad steering pump. When I’ve had a vacuum pump go bad it’s usually caused several different problems at once.

      It's your hydro boost

    thx for the vid, but--- oil line-- take off under the vac pump or the engine block? Pointing to one, referring to the other and saying 'there' is confusing...

      Off the vac pump is much easier I’ve done it multiple times already on a couple different trucks

    If you rebuild vacuum pump buy cummins kit for it runs about $80-100 bucks or pep boys has rebuilt vacuum pump 1yr warranty and best price out there.

      I'm doing this right now. I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but there's another bracket that mounts the power steering pump to the engine block. You can see it in his video because he removed the bracket from the block. I left the bracket on the engine block and removed the nut from the power steering pump to get it free. I think that will make it easier to line it back up when I'm reinstalling.

    You talk about the 2 bolts that hold the vacuum pump to the timing cover but you don't talk about the bracket holding the power steering pump to the engine block! Took me a while to figure out why I couldn't separate the assembly from the motor! Great video otherwise! Thank you.

    Would a bad vacuum pump cause my brakes to be stiff and lock? Should i replace my hydro boost, vacuum pump, and power steering pump all at once?

      Look at 2001 Cummins 24 valve hydroboost power steering line leak. It shows you an easy way to see if fluids coming through your power steering pump like it should and had to clean it

    I did all of this and now my brakes are locking. It all stared with a leaky power steering pump. So I decided to do as this video instructed and now that I have it all put back the breaks wont release. Can someone help.

    • @airkilroy23
      @airkilroy23  5 лет назад +2

      First thing I’d try is to make sure the power steering pump is full, then turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times and see if the brakes don’t free up. It’s a lot easier to turn jacked up. The hydrostat boost could be locked up and that might free it. If that didn’t work I’d check those seals in the vacuum pump and make sure they are in correctly and not leaking.
