Thanks Brian, you helped me locate my vacuum pump which helped me locate a huge vacuum leek which helped me fix my 4wd which was not engaging. Your the best!
LOL....I've got 285,000+ on my original injector pump, vaccuum pump, and power steering pump. Installinga new injector pump tomorrow. Really appreciate Brian's videos. Jim
You're the man you have no idea how many videos I go through with dip shits trying to explain what they're doing, then I come another one from you and it's fixed. Thank you for your help.
Just hit 300k miles on my 99 2500 5 speed. Original vacuum pump & power steering pump. Replaced VP44 about 10k miles ago. Old girl is still kicking butt. Thanks for the video. Huge help!
im just about to hit the 300k mile mark myself , replace the VP44 about 60k miles back , its just a time bomb ticking away . bosch built it on porpose to break down after 75k miles
The bottom bolt on the power steering pump really FUCKED me!! Thank you so much for mentioning that. I’ve watched so many videos and nobody mentioned that. From the bottom my heart, thank you!!
@red93yj They just generate vacuum for your HVAC controls, 4X4, etc. Diesels aren't like gas engines. They don't have a throttle butterfly. The injection pump does the work of that by directly injecting the fuel and then it gets squished and the compression ignites it.
Yay I'm bout to try to find the whole vacuum pump assembly to replace on my 94 Dodge Ram Cummins 12v . Salute, blessings to everyone grind and motivations....
Thanks for the good show. I will be replacing my seals next week. Did some research on the seal kit and got mine off E-Bay for less than $20.00 because I had time to wait. Part #4089742 Geniue Cummins part origin US Date on box 27-Feb-2014. Don't tell me the dealers don't mark up their parts price. Good show.
thanks man. your video helped a lot. I couldn't figure out how to take that damn thing off I felt like spiking everything into the ground today. thanks again.
Good vid man ! I got a question tho... can I put this type of vacuum pump p/s pump combo on a first get 5.9? It has the big diaphragms on the top & bottom of my vacuum pump and the both get in the way of my steering shaft (motor isn't in a truck i did a swap into my 1950 dodge sedan) so I wanna put a newer style p/s pump and vacuum pump on to open that space up... But basically I'm askin if the new one (94+) will fit my 91 motor?
Great video. Today I finally decided to track down a nasty oil leak on my '95 3500, and found oil coming from the rear gasket on this pump. I have to race the engine to keep power steering while turning and the brakes are good for one hit, if you try to brake again with 20 seconds you have to stand on the pedal.(and it doesn't do much then!) It sounds to me like this seal kit will hook me up. Think you could throw me a part number and place to buy reasonably? Thanks
Hey Brian, I have a question about my 99 2500 Cummins brakes. I've been having stopping issues for a while now, I replaced pads 3 times with different types ceramic, semi metallic, now extreme something. Still no difference. So this weekend I replaced everything rotors, calipers, shoes, drums and fluid dot 3/4 synthetic. I bled everything properly. The pedal feels better but still doesn't wanna stop good. Any ideas? It's driving me insane... Thanks avid watcher fonztheman..
i have a 95 cummins 12 valve. I was backing a trailer on a job site this am and suddenly lost power steering. Any idea on where to start on this project or should I just throw a new pump on. thanks
Mine is starting to whine and become hard to steer but I've never changed the power steering fluid either, should I try just flushing the fluid before I go and swap out the entire pump?
what tools do you use to remove the two bolts on the vacuum pump flange. I cannot get any ratchets to fit up in that area. I removed the driver side bolt but the other one is near impossible to get to. I am stuck!
Would a bad vacum pump cause the power steering pump to loose its fluid quite a bit. ? My 01 cummins has almost the same problem. Small oil leak. They told me it was the power steering pump. So i replaces it but still leaks and now they say its the vaccum line.
The seal that he is replacing should usually be replaced every time you replace your power steering pump even if you don't have a leak. Why not you're already in there?
You're welcome! Check out my Posi-lock video on my channel. Then you can have 2wd low for backing heavy trailers on turns etc. (when do you not turn when backing trailers?)
I used this number at dodge in Manitoba Canada and all I got was the gasket that goes between the vacumm pump and block, didn't come with the seals and o rings. Dodge told me they don't exsist.
Cracked Engine Block 2001 Dodge Ram Cummins 2500 The infamous Cummins company decided to allow one of it's outsourced vendors from Brazil to "save some weight" by thinning the walls of the outside of the engine block from 11 mm down to 5.5mm. The result of that "weight savings" (really money savings) idea yielded what is known as the #53 block. They crack...if you tow heavy loads, or hot rod the engine, the block will crack. There is no permanent fix for this except for replacing the engine, which Cummins offered me $500 for if I agreed to not write and publish an article about the problem...that ain't gonna happen...stay away from any 1998.5 to 2002 Cummins powered Dodge wtih the #53 block in it...or at least, negotiate a far better price for the truck based upon the record of this particular engine. NOTE. Cummins 5.9 Blocks also was available with #54 and #56 Blocks and I think the #54 was made in Mexico thicker walls
I'm currently replacing a cracked Mexican block in an 01. Split exactly where the 53 blocks crack. Best I can tell it's one of the only taco blocks to have cracked a block
I've never seen a poersteering pump on gm/dodge go bad unless run low. the one you replace it with will be of dubious origin and you'll be worse off then the factory one you have.
hey i was wondering if you can watch my last couple videos on my cummins 2nd gen its blowing oil out the breather tube like crazy maybe give me a ideal what is going on with my truck unknownbogey sent me thanks
@@DieselRamcharger wow, I hope that diesel ramcharger doesn't have a Cummins after reading that comment. Nah, it can't, otherwise you would completely understand why he said that. Actually, you made that comment on a video showing how to repair the vacuum pump on.....wait for it.....a diesel engine
its 60 bucks at genos for 94/95 trucks. 96-up is like what you see here. By the way, this kit from the Cummins dealer is 21 bucks over the counter, bought one last week.
Cant stand this guy, but aside from that this DOES NOT WORK on 94/95 trucks. Even though the body style is the same, 95 uses the 91-95 style vacuum pump because it uses vacuum operated brakes, not hydro-boost. Also, its not that you shouldn't pull vacuum off a diesel, its that you CANT. There is no throttle plate, therefore no vacuum.
Thanks Brian. Over a decade later, this video keeps on giving.

You're welcome Phillip! Glad you liked it enough to comment. Thank you!
My power steering pump was leaking so I replaced it and when done the engine oil was pouring out , wish I had seen your video first, Thanks Jim

You're most welcome Derek! Glad I could help you get your truck up and going again and help get you through the ire.
Happy to see Brian owns all the cars I need help on. Thanks!
Brian, this is my truck with my problems. Keep up the good work dude. And thanks for spending your time to make us these videos. Great work.

Brian, thanks for that video, it just made my day knowing I can do this, I'm going through a half gallon a week in oil. Thanks again.
Is this fixing the power steering oil leak or is it an engine oil leak?

@A50FREAK I wish I knew for sure to be able to tell you. Unfortunately I don't don't know, but I have my doubts due to drive origin.
@MrFchivo It's Cummins brand from the dealership.
Brian, were these seals inside the vacuum pump the direct reason for the crankcase pressure, causing the blowby? thanks.

Where do you get the seals kit...nice video thanks
Does this vacuum pump receive any lubrication from the power steering fluid? Sorry if you mentioned this.

Halffast719 look into hydroboost unit or vac pump
@charliebartz1 You're welcome- thanks!
Was motor oil getting in your power steering Reservoir
Great Information.. Thanks for posting this Video; It's going to be a Life-Saver for me, because Lucky Me gets to do this on my 2001 Dodge Cummins.
Would it be easier to replace the whole vaccum pump since i have one rather than just the seal?
It could be the gear box if the brakes still work good. The brakes and steering both run off the pressure that pump generates.
Helped me understand my leaking pump problem.
@Jerroh6 Will do.
@supercannon2 Thanks- the guy who had it before me put one on.

Just got my first diesel and I need to do this how much I’m I looking to pay to get this done? Vs doing it my self???
Where does the big gasket go? I can't find a home for it anywhere
Mine is starting to whine and become hard to steer but I've never changed the power steering fluid either, should I try just flushing the fluid before I go and swap out the entire pump?
is this the same set up as my 98 12v
HOW LONG DID THIS ALL TAKE

Couple years later but an style wrench or half moon worked for me

I watched this so i could make fun of you......but i couldn't? On point and very informative. Great job!
Dude I think you'r my brother from another mother! But your allot more helpful than I am.... SPANKS AGAIN!
Thankyou, Brian.
Welcome
Thanks!
Thanks
Hey guys when I look up the part # the price I get is around $13. Is this correct? I do believe Brian said he paid around $80.
very helpful. Thank you
So I replaced the seal kit and it still leaks like crazy any ideas!

The 2 flange bolts are 1/2 with crud on em
Dude, it's $18 from cummins.
But thanks for your assembly video.
I just went to dodge dealership and the part number you have here is not the right number do you have the right number
Thanks for the vid.
Diesels don't have engine vacuum because there is no throttle butterfly - it's just an open shot to the valves all the time.
thank you for you know knowles
Wish there was a part number for these seals since their sold cheaper
thinking this might be my problem with mine but just wondering to try and be shure
345K on my 2001 with original vacuum and ps pump. Doing this fix on Saturday...

thank god i have the mexico built one but the wiring was stripped in it for my headlights

@Jebbadog My dog ate it.
With this leak is the left side of the engine from top to bottom wet with oil
Or would anyone know what kind of leak that would be
130k miles makes me feel old with 230k miles, tell me theres someone out there with more miles! :D
I know your post was two years ago but I am doing this job on my 01 with 680k

I thought he was saying the vacuum pump actuates to waste gate.
waste gate?
I get that.
hey i was wondering if you can watch my last couple videos on my cummins 2nd gen its blowing oil out the breather tube like crazy maybe give me a ideal what is going on with my truck unknownbogey sent me thanks
you either have a severe vacuum leak or you have bad rings
jared lehman diesels don't have vacuum mmmkay.
