Kevin is homeless. His mother kicked him out when he was 15 years-old

- Kevin is a homeless youth living in a Chicago youth shelter. Kevin's mother kicked him out when he was 15 years-old, and he spent the next few years couch surfing. At 17, Kevin went and moved in with his dad, where he says they both put a lot of their feelings in a bottle. When that relationship exploded, Kevin found himself back out in the streets.
Kevin shares a candid story of sleeping outside and the realities of being a homeless youth.
When I asked Kevin what his future was like, he responded that he had been in so many places the last 3 years - that he didn't know, but at 18 Kevin is a young man with a world of experience. You only have to listen to him for a short time to know he's on a good path now, and if he stays the course, Kevin will do just fine.

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as RUclips, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

He's 28 years old, has his apartment, and lives with his dogs. Even though it has been almost 10 years, he's still as cheerful as he is in this video.
Thank you so much for this update ❤ I wish him and the creator of this RUclips channel could get together and have an update video! Would love to hear from him and his story how he made it and just to see his cheerful personality again

My brother was tossed out by my mom when he was 15, 35 years ago, after my dad left us to have affairs. My bro ended up being sexually abused and completely destroyed by men on the street. They began to ply/groom him with drugs and alcohol, and he was raped by one of them when he was 14 or 15. After that it just got worse. He even spent time on Skid Row. I am surprised he still alive. He ended up as an alcoholic and sometimes using pills when he tried to get off the alcohol, and finally he became diabetic and had to stop abusing himself. He also developed multiple sclerosis. He has 3 beautiful children and a wife that have been through hell, because of fallout from the abuse cycle that began probably before my parents. Despite all that, my brother is one of the most incredible people I have ever known. Extremely intelligent, very chatty, highly capable, concerned about the community, his neighbours, and always ready to help others.
God bless you and your brother may your life be filled with greatniss ❤️🙏

He may not look like it but this guy is a real man who doesn’t play victim and won’t let being homeless effect his status at school or anywhere

You don't get it. The police can actually take your house and the rest of your property if someone in your home is doing drugs. It's called asset forfeiture. It's highway robbery system perpetrated by the police at both state and federal level. You can't have a person in your car with so much as a any kind of drug paraphernalia. You can't have a chunk of money in your pocket. Police stops you for a busted tail light, search you, find 300 cash in your pocket, or $3000.00, and ask you where you got it. If you can't prove that it's not drug related, they decide that it's drug related and keep your money. Police will steal the jewelry off your neck under this same policy. So if his mom wanted to not also become homeless she needed to get a drug user out of her home, even if it's her son, or risk losing her home because of him.
You don't know his parents.

@@Nova04550 guy you see in the video is my cousin. during the time of the making of this video (a little after), he stole alot of stuff from my mom's house including all of our electronics ($600 worth) to support his drug habit. We gave him food, roof over his head, and my dad would even help him out with a bit of money every now during his hard times and then yet he still stole most of our belongings at the time even after we opened our arms to him. If your wondering how he's doing now unfortunately he hasn't changed. he has now burned down all the family bridges he once had because of this behavior. We have tried to help him when he begged and we did. We tried reaching out to help and we did. Nothing has changed these past 8 years. Because of Kevin's heavy hostility towards the few that cared about him, now he's on his own. I loved my cousin to death, now he hates me too because I'm my mother's son. I've never done anything to him to act the way he does towards me (I'm a minor) now i see why his family gave him the cold shoulder.
All we can do is pray.
@@Glock-dm5wt Oh man that's really sad to hear. I guess I always try to see the best in people and see their potential. I can be biased from my own experience because when I was a teenager I got into a lot of trouble, had a lot of issues with family, had pretty much nobody, but I was smart like him and completely turned my life around as an adult and have lived straight and honest and self-reliant the whole time.
Never though have I ever betrayed someone like that. But I have heard this story time and time again when it comes to drug addiction, which I've never dealt with personally.
My whole family misses my brother-in-law dearly who has caused a lot of similar grief due to addiction and is never seen anymore.
Watching the video back, at the end when he's talking about his wishes, and then knowing that shortly after he goes and robs his family. It just makes you weary about people that have learned how to say nice things (but not actually mean them) to gain people's good will and get things from them.
It's a serious and tragic health crisis, and most people just don't get the help they need (or accept it).
Not sure I have any advice for you, but what I will say is that although human beings are open systems that can learn and change, we cannot control the circumstances that made us who we are. We cannot help but be just what we are. We do not resent a crocodile for doing what a crocodile does. The dominoes just fall. And thus hate does not make any logical sense. Only love, forgiveness, and understanding.
Even after BOTH of his parents had kicked him out, his first wish was for them to be safe

You really don’t love your kids if you boot your kids out like that

At 18 you should have a college plan later out, if you graduate and nothing, yikes...

These interviews are really an act of kindness to these people.
It's not easy listening to what these people are going through.
He has such a bright smile. I hope he never loses that to the cruel world.
We don’t need person with million dollar to help homeless. All we need million people with heart to chip in 1 dollar
Exactly!! Well said.
This could work if charities are totally transparent. We don't know how much money they spend on things the money isn't intended for such as the salaries of employees. Even the owners get a share of the money.
shinytan all we need is one person making a million dollars a day to chip in just 1 day's salary once. Those people are out there. look it up.

These interviews are really moving. They always randomly pop up in my feed and I watch them now and again and there is usually a pattern in most of them. The person being interviewed usually has a smile on their face, strange but it seems as though they are genuinely happy someone is taking the time to hear their story. Second, when they are asked what would they do with 3 wishes, they almost always cant think of what they would want, or they can think of two things and the third is where they have a hard time. I was dealt better cards than some of these people but ive had those close to me suffer through homelessness and I always try to help someone out when I can. A place to rest a night, some food, a fresh pair of shoes, a smoke; the little things to us can mean everything to another, give what you can.
Amen brother, amen. I pray that many more people embark on this

This channel really is a blessing I been homeless for 4 years now and I keep coming back to watch an episode to give me strength, yes strength cos I get weak sometimes and sad so I listen to other people, I learn something each different episode and it's what keeps me going.
Lucky I've a friend that shares his wifi.
He blames himself for what happened to him, but I think his parents should 've support him no matter what he did. I mean - that's why the parents are there!
I agree, and sometimes you need to let your kid hit rock bottom because it will teach them a lesson, this kid has learned his lesson so that's where you usually pick it up as a parent. 🤷🏻♀️
Easier said than done. You obviously dont know kids these days...not saying he hasn't learned his lesson but speaking from my own experience

It’s illegal to kick your minor children out - and parents that do need to be held accountable. That being said, parents don’t kick their kids out for no reason - usually. I’m glad he sees his piece of his circumstances. His introspection is touching.
@DonKingKong really? What states? The federal law recognizes a person to be an adult at age 18. States don’t decide that. A child can be emancipated, but they require that child to be self supporting. So if you are right, I have never heard of it. Please give me more details.
You can't give up on your kids, especially at 15 years old. Those parents simply gave up! Kevin, you should pursue your hobby. Go be a great chef!

He isn't a kid anymore hes 21 or 22.
People give up on their kids too easily. It’s sad.
In most cases you’re right, there are always two sides to every story. A co-worker sent his 16 year old packing after his drug problem led to an in house scuffle ending with the boy having a 9mm stuck to his moms temple. The trigger was never pulled but a three year series of events was enough for them to give up on him. His advice to us at work was choose your child’s friends.
Well, my co-workers kid just got caught up with the wrong crowd. They couldn’t have imagined it would get to the point it did.

I heard but you don’t kick a kid out, especially your own flesh and blood.
Talk it out and lay out the rules, hug and kiss your child and role over the next day.
If he had more issues then it’s the parents responsibility to go get help e.g counselling or brat camp or what ever.
Bottom line is you stick help and support your child not kick them out on to the dangerous world.
How can their parents sleep at night knowing their boy is alone on the streets trying to find a spot to to get some sleep.
At that age I’d be shitting my self with fear.
Just wrong, it’s just wrong
Psalms121
And??
Your point exactly??
Psalms121
Tell me what he said?
Psalms121
Oh right that makes sense.
Next time one of my kids are being disobedient I’ll chuck them out and put them in danger.
Instead of seeking help like brat camp or counselling I’ll just throw them out doors and let them fend for themselves.
Makes complete sense now Psalms
