Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid adds to an already burgeoning strikeforce of Vinicius Junior, Rodryo, Jude Bellingham and the soon-to-arrive Endrick.
So where does Mbappe fit in? Liam Tharme argues that with Carlo Ancelotti as manager Real Madrid with all their superstars is the perfect place for Mbappe to reach his potential.
    Marco Bevilacqua illustrates.

Real Madrid have been the most tactically flexible team in this sport for a decade. They won a UCL/La Liga title with a 34 year old striker in 2022 and won that exact double WITHOUT a striker at all just this year, with a 19/20 year old midfielder being the top scorer. Thinking they didn't have a plan for how they'd use a player they've been chasing for 5 years is ludicrous.

(Galtier and Enrique)
People love saying “mbappé lost his ability to do what he’s best at” but then ignore the fact 23/24 Enrique and the midfield didn’t and couldn’t complement Mbappe’s strengths, plus psg was always playing on the right side (everyone in the midfield either passing back or to dembele even tho he’s a poor crosser and would hardly find Mbappé or Ramos where they needed the ball) psg also lacked quality and consistent chance creators. In 2002, Real Madrid, dubbed the "Galacticos" by the press, aimed to build a team of superstars. After winning their first UCL in 32 years in 1998 and again in 2000, they focused on signing top players. This included Luis Figo (Ballon d'Or 2000) and Zidane (Ballon d'Or 1998). Their strategy worked initially, winning another UCL in 2002, making it three titles in five years and promising a bright future. Then came the game-changing moment Ronaldo (R9), the world's most feared striker, joined Real Madrid fresh from his 2002 World Cup win with Brazil, where he was the top scorer. He also won the Ballon d'Or that year. Initially, the team looked unstoppable, securing a European Super Cup win over Feyenoord. However, problems soon arose. Despite Ronaldo's brilliance, the team, already packed with offensive stars like Raul and Morientes, struggled in the Champions league. They started the season slowly and were eventually knocked out in the semifinals by Juventus.Real Madrid remained committed to their strategy by signing players like Owen and Beckham in the following years, but their Champions League success eluded them. They eventually shifted tactics, and it took 12 years to win the Champions League again. High-profile transfers can have mixed results. Mbappe's best position is on the left wing, where Real already has Vini Jr. This means Mbappe might play as a striker. Currently, Real has a younger, more balanced squad with a promising future, even if they aren't dominating under Carlo.

Be cool if you did a video on proposed rules changed to football to 'improve' the game.
    Ideas:
    1) Penalties for Penalty shootouts being converted to 'half way line' runs - been tried before, why didn't it work?
    2) Bigger goals? For more goals?
    3) More subs (been done now!) Five subs per game!
    4) Offside change! What Wenger is proposing - makes it much easier for attackers.
    5) Mid half breaks of 1-2 minutes, like we had in the pandemic. This was actually really food I thought. Makes the games even longer though
    6) Stopping the clock for when the ball is out of play. This is another great one, but will extend the game a lot overall I think, even if you lessen the game time clock appropriately.
    7) 'Sinbins' - again another great idea, but it will cause a huge amount of tactical changes.
    8) Changes to the Penalty run up rule to help the keeper?
    Just some vid ideas guys!

I love Luka but at 38 years old (He'll turn 39 in September) he just doesn't have the legs to start games anymore, I even think Guler might see more game time ahead of him.

They are lacking a midfielder that can direct the pace of the game and get the ball in posession outside of their own field under heavy pressing, feels like mosts games where Madrid was stuck without proper posession Ancelotti resolved it by changing Tchouameni/Kross position with the ball and putting him more back (the same way he played with Germany this last eurocup). Modric could do this role with his game vision and passing skills but hes going to be 39 soon... And I dont see Valverde, Cama or Tchou fitting that role they are more physical players that outrun opponents rather than having good passing skills

Modric isn't in a condition to defend for 90 minutes. It was proven against Atletico de Madrid last season, and that performance sent him to the bench for what was left of the season. Valverde has played and proved that he can play as CDM or CM, but his full potential is as RCM. Besides, with Mbappe, Vini, Rodrygo, and Modric, who is defending? Bellingham and Valverde?

Obviously, it's the Champions League and surprises can happn but it's honestly hard to imagine who could stop Real Madrid next season other than maybe Man City, especially with so many would be challengers going through transition periods (Liverpool and Bayern both have coaches that have not really been tested at such a high level, PSG couldn't win the title with Mbappe and Neymar so I can't see them doing it without them, Inter Milan are dominant in Italy but aren't really top contenders in the Champions League, and as impressive as Arteta and Xabi Alonso have been with Arsenal and Leverkusen, both teams showed their limitations last season).
And baring some Hansi Flick 2020 Bayern style rejuvenation at Barcelona, it's hard not to see Real Madrid cantering to the La Liga title.

Arsenal's limitation was their inexperience in european top flight football, while they shot up the best league in the world, they improve every year under Arteta and i think that it won't be long till they reward themselves with a title, especially with this being potentially Guardiola's last season at Man City.
Inter got to a final already and barely lost to Atleti on penalties in a fortress of a Metropolitano where not even Real could win last season, while absolutely dominating the Serie A, with the best defenders in the world, a top 5 keeper in the world and a incredible Lautaro Martinez who's currently on the level of a Kane and Haaland as a ST.

So, the logic behind your argument is: Ancelotti will make it work?
This is the old logical fallacy: just because something happened before, you assume it will continue happening in the future.
I still think this is another of Florentino's attempts at building teams of galacticos. It may well work, but some players will either fall by the wayside or will have t adapt. Most likely outcomes: Rodrygo will play less, Vinicius and Bellingham will defend more.
Also, your 4-2-3-1 will not work like that. Valverde and Modric on the "2"? Modric hasn't played much lately as a central midfielder and now you expect him to play in a withdrawn role? No way. He'll be a player to come off the bench when RM will need control. The midfield may look like a 4-3-3 with Tchouameni more defensive, Camavinga more on the left and Valverde on the right. Mbappe may well play on the right so that (100 lungs) Valverde can cover his side. Bellingham can then play his weird 8-9-10 role and Vinicius can stay on the left. That seems to me the option offering the best balance.
Sure, I trust Ancelotti, but he cannot get everything right. And this may be a problem too far: 2 players who do not defend and another 2 who may prefer not to.

I completly disagree. If you look at Mbappe's heatmap with PSG or France, he naturally plays 7. However his poor defensive pressure, creates a problem for any team and a midfield must cover for him (Fabian Ruiz for PSG / Rabiot for France). Its better to keep Vinicius who does a better job overall as a 7. Thats why Luis Enrique moved him to 9, where there is no need to cover for him. He can stay in front, and be in a "free" position. BUT Mbappe is also NOT a 9. In that position, his heatmap shows he's rarely in the box, and plays lower like a 10 to participate in the game play. On top you will see that he has ZERO head game, which is nowadays mandatory for a real 9. Mbappe in a 9 position at Real Madrid will often be in the same space as Bellingham, and there will be nobody to take the crosses in the box, coming from the wings. Thats why I think it will be a real issue for Ancelotti to manage him. In PSG or France, the whole team is made around him, thats why his statistics are phenomenal. But in Real Madrid, it wont be the case, with players like Bellingham, Vinicius, and so on.
I know its an unpopular opinion, but I dont think Mbappe is a good addition to Real Madrid. Time will only tell the truth...
