    I sure hope you never get tired of making videos! Great presentation. I can hear every word you say and the material is presented in a logical sequence. Thanx, LP

    I will be obtaining my first bee in June of 2021. I have the full Langstroth hive Which I have already purchased. I was just thing about a smaller hive and I came across your video. I will now convert them into four mini hives. Thanks for sharing your plans.

      As typical in the shop, there is usually more than one way to get the job done. That is one reason why making your own equipment is so satisfying. Thanks for the feed back.

    Nice Project! You mention the thinner separations are non structural. What would I have to change from your original design, to make them removable? If you could remove such a divider, you could join two adjacend mini-colonies, thus having one queen tend to both compartments. Just in case a cell doesn't hatch, a queen doesn't return from her mating flight, or you needed to harvest a queen, but you don't have a replacing queen or queen cell at hand. I don't like queenless hive compartments.

      Actually, I have seriously considered a removable partition. It would actually be relatively straight forward to do. First, the 1/8th inch dados would have to be a bit wider so that the partition would slide easily in and out. The dados could also be a bit shallower, say 3/16th of an inch as opposed to 3/8ths in the plans. Then cut the partition as a "T" (a tab at the top) which would sit on the frame rest and prevent the partition from sliding all the way out the bottom. Other schemes would work as well. I suspect the bees would glue the partition in place with propolis, but it is certainly worth a try.

      You can run a piece of duct tape in partition joints (corner's) and they wouldn't be able to propolize I don't think because it'd be protected and bees Don't touch duct tape .may work if becomes a problem

    I really enjoy your videos. I learn so much from all of them. I would like to have a removable divider in case I have to unite the two hives. Where did you get the file to print the entrance disks on your 3D printer?

      @beekeepersworkshop  7 лет назад +1

      I created the drawings and subsequent STL files myself. I have three sizes (diameter in inches): 4-7/8, 3-1/2 and 2. The two larger discs have round main openings 1-5/8 and 1 inch respectively. The small disc has an oval shaped main opening. All discs also include a position for ventilation and a position for worker-only bee ingress/egress. I printed mine in PLA plastic then spray painted them each a different color for each of the four chambers. The PLA has experienced a small degree of warping over two seasons, but still appear to be quite usable. If warping becomes unacceptable, I will simply print a new one.
      I have no problem sharing these STL files. If you want them, let me know. Then we can work on a way of getting them to you. Email would work or possible an upload to Thingiverse. Might also be able to post on the mcihiganbees.org website, along with the links for the mini-nuc plans and videos.

      I would truly appreciate you sharing the files with me. My email address is mturco6@gmail.com I am currently working on three Mini Nuc for an April deployment. I really love this concept and I think it's going to be extremely beneficial.
      Thanks so much!!!

    Dear friends, excuse my total ignorance, but what is the purpose of the mini nucs? How can I transfer this population to a definitive beehive?

    • @beekeepersworkshop
      @beekeepersworkshop  7 лет назад +1

      Dimas, the mini-nuc videos are in three parts. Part 1 of this series talks about the questions you asked. This video is available on this channel. You can also google "miin nucs" and "mini mating nucs" to get a ton of information from others. Let me know if you have any unanswered questions after watching Part 1 of this series.

      Normally, we would like to get the tools going earlier in a video. However, since mini-nucs are a new idea for many beekeepers, we chose to spend a bit more time in the beginning explaining these nifty gadgets. You can always skip ahead if you want to.
