I got the first OYO for my extremely out of shape, 70 year old, Yoga only, sedentary friend, after I nagged him about his physical condition, and he absolutely loves it
*Please consider reading this before making a purchase.* *Tl;dr* *-* *For this price buy dumbbells & never think of this thing again.* *1.* Let's start with the fact that the most important thing is to practice systematically. *2.* This device will hurt you (no padded blades, pay attention to the shoulders extended to the front - tragedy) *3.* These are just links, it's better to buy resistance bands, they take up less space and are safer for joints. But for this price I would strongly recommend to buy 2x 20kg iron dumbbells. *4.* You won't do anything with this for legs, maybe "dead lift" but it has a load of 40lb = ~ 18kg = joke) *5.* Squat with this will give you the same result as squat without it + a bottle of water weighing the same (1.1kg=~ 2,5lb). You have 40kg weight with dumbbells. *6.* The best for the figure, strength and lack of injury in our body are free weights or even working out with your own body weight. *7.* There are maybe a few exercises that would make sense, but with dumbbells you will do a lot more different variations of exercises, at which you can activate more muscle groups + many parts you will not train at all (calves, ass, thighs, traps). And those that you can practice will often go with one exercise hurting your joints. *8.* I was watching some time ago about training in a spacecraft - certainly not based on this toy (ok, both use links but if two books use paper it doesn't mean they are equal). *9.* There are no weights on ships because weight counts and there is a different gravity, the main assumption of the exercises is that after landing they can maintain fitness (muscle fading away and bone weakness). Improving strength results seems to be a lie (unless he started with no form at all). *10.* This astronaut was in space 15 years ago, when he returned, he retired and became a "motivational speaker."
I think the purpose and the USP of the product is the portability, the fact that it is only 1 kg or something means you can bring it with you abroad or in your bag if your going somewhere. This would be impossible with heavy weights.
I think most people will understand that this isnt an actual gym. But it provides accessibility to a small one anytime anywhere. The portability aspect is mostly the reason why most people want one. I mean sometimes you don't see the same people in gyms because some of us got busy lives with work travel or family. Imagine bringing 40lb dumbbells everywhere lol. Nova gym is just convenient and will in fact build muscle.
2:20 someone want to tell me how that's equivalent to the lat pulldown? Pull DOWN, it's kind of in the name, that's just pulling apart with no weight resisting the down portion. In fact a number of these eqivalents don't make sense, and for others you'll blow past the 40 pound max on a decent routine in no time.
this is what i am most worried about with this product. in v1 people asked for more resistance. not like from 25 to 40lb but more like up to 100. i dont quite understand why they cant make different discs that have 5x and 10x the resistance. and sell those separately... for many of these exercises you would need 2 nova gyms and even then its questionable
Saw that and realized at that point it was b*******. Don't lie to people and tell them it's a lat pull-down when it's not. Tell them they can do 10 exercises with it at most & it is what it is. Don't try to say you can replace the entire gym... their sales approach is fallacious & dishonest... Denoted by using the Bell and Howell flashlight infomercial guy
I'd rather train with a good set of resistance bands. A 5th of the price, more resistance, more exercise selection, better gains and folds aways to the same size weighing less.
Definitely True coast effective and will do the same thing literally 😅....the tool just looks attractive and with super cool marketing it will sale but yeah all they have shown us is a typical resistance band training 😢😅only to the Sheep will follow ..just saying
Resistance bands don’t have compression, only extension, with resistance peaking at the end of the movement like a rubber band, instead of equally through the range of movement which provides the most benefit, and they can snap back causing injury. Free-weights are cumbersome and momentum can cause joint pain. The OYO NOVA Gym provides SpiraFlex linear resistance both pushing and pulling in all planes of movement, which feels like plate loaded equipment at the gym. A NASA study proved our SpiraFlex technology built as much muscle as free-weights. That's why NASA has been using it for 10 years to keep astronauts fit on the International Space Station.
The inventor of the Nova passed away in a car accident in Sept 2022 and the parent company OYO FITNESS,LLC filled for CH 7 bankruptcy in Nov 2022. The website is offline and the company is dead. Amazon is still selling their products, but no warranty support will be provided. The NOVA itself is a deeply flawed product ; I had 3 replacements and received a prototype redesign a few weeks before the CEO passed which has developed it's own issues.
Regardless of how good this is, DO NOT back them on indiegogo and kickstarter. They are finding excuses not to ship these and keep on getting people to back them up while using the funding for something else. They promised refunds on people that wants to back out but no one has gotten it. The owner Paul Francis is abusing the term "NASA" to his full advantage, extremely shady business. Again, nothing against the product since none of us got it except a few reviewers, but if you want one wait for it to go retail (if it even gets there). This company is horrible with support. I can't imagine if something breaks or you injure yourself from those cables snapping, how responsible they will be.
Bought a red Oyo Nova brand new from a retailer, not Oyo directly. Intermittent, occasional use; never aggressive. One of the flex packs shattered, damaging the unit as a whole. Customer service gave me the run around, and finally flat out refused to help. The product itself has been out less than a year, but they refuse to honor the 1-year warranty if you don’t buy from them directly. (Says 3-years on their website, but they told me 1-year in emails) Bad business, bad customer service. Buy a TRX instead.
I just wanted to point out, even though this comment was 2 years ago and I don't own the product... this is blatantly NOT meant to replace the gym equipment. Any actual fitness enthusiast knows what this is for and it's clearly marketed this way - it's literally for TRAVEL or workplace. It's not a "toy", anyone with actual workout experience knows exactly how and when to use this, and how to make it more intense on themselves so long as the product works as intended. Don't confuse this with some dime-a-dozen "ab/arm cruncher device", this is literally meant for on-the-go "all-in-one", and we need this kind of general innovation. I'm not endorsing it, it may not be that amazing quality itself, but that is irrelevant to what I'm explaining.
I suspect this'll go the same way of the previously hyped "work your abs while you watch tv" products. Too many anatomical and design issues to bother with here. The couple sitting on the couch doing their workout was particularly entertaining.
Oyo Nova customer service really sucks. I've been trying to get a hold of them because 2 of my spiral flex broke. I'm willing to purchase the replacement. I really read somewhere that the owner of the business died. I like this product but unfortunately their customer service truly sucks.

This is the most absurd Kickstarter thing I've seen in my life. It is the Ferrari of the resistance bands. It is still poo in the magic box. 1. That thing is too heavy for travel by plane comfortably. and to light to do any serious workout. 2. Some of the exercises shown in the movie are the purest nonsense you could see out there. 3. Please, everyone. For 1k. USD you can buy home gym starter or just buy 10 lessons with a good trainer and buy resistance band set for travel. That's all you need. If you are fat and not sporty, you will need knowledge and motivation instead of magic equipment.
Ok so lets say you are going to work chest and biceps with this, you're gunna do 3 sets of chest fly and bicep curls and thats it. Next time you do the exact same workouts and again and again. And the bs nasa study means nothing. Ofc someone using this almost every day for 6 months will see an increase in physical strength, I would be more suprised if they didnt.
