The origin of Kyo-sashimono dates back to the 8th century. Around the 15th century it developed along with the establishment of the tea ceremony culture.

When it comes to hand crafted products, you can probably get in the world nothing better or more perfect than Japanese goods. Even the world-famous quality of Germany has to step aside here. I find it fascinating with how much devotion the work in Japan is done. What I also really like is that many tools are made by them self and that they use many materials from nature.

I've been an amateur woodworker for most of my life. Though I fear my enthusiasm has usually outweighed my talent.
When I succeeded in making something exceptional, I was often annoyed at remarks like "You're so lucky to be able to do that!" - as though time, practice and effort had nothing to do with it.
I DO appreciate what's needed, not just to produce beautiful objects, but to learn and progress to the point where you can.
Videos like this leave me almost breathless, not just because of the talent, but because of the discipline needed to achieve that talent.
